I made this topic not only because I wanted to hear what other people had to say, but also because of my constant bashing of Galxay. Hear me out: I'm not a fan of Glaxay at all, I still dislike it, but I find Super Mario Bros. Wii to be a pretty fun game on the Wii (that is less repetitive than Galaxy, especially with co-op multiplayer). So while I have bashed in the past about Mario, I can rejoice about this game. Therefore, I vote Super Mario Bros. Wii by a long shot. |

Mario Galaxy for me. it seemed so much more revolutionary, and Mario Bros. was very short. I got every single star with both Mario and Luigi in Galaxy. so that's my choice. |

Coincidentally I just picked up Mario Bros. Wii yesterday. For me, I would say Mario Galaxy by a light year >_<. I really like NSMB but it's just like the DS version. Nothing about it feels new at all except for the short lived power-ups. My favorite thing about it is the return of the Koopa kids from Super Mario World and SMB3. Oh yeah and Yoshi too. As much as I cherished 2D sidescrollers back in the day (and I still do somewhat) I'm really starting to get sick of them. I loved the DS version, but I don't care for this one as much. It feels like the same exact game again. The game sucks with co-op imo. Playing with a friend is more of a hassle then fun. Don't get me wrong, I like NSMB but it just feels way too overdone. After playing the hell out of all three SMB's, Super Mario World, and NSMB for the DS, I just got sick of this one faster. It also feels way too easy compared to the previous games I just mentioned. To be fair though, Galaxy was pretty damn easy too. Getting all 120 stars was more time consuming then challenging. There were only a handful of stars that gave me trouble. |

Wait for Super Mario Galaxy 2.... Failing that, Galaxy is the choice for a good single player game, But Mario Bro's Wii is a laugh in multiplayer. |

I know 2D games on console are short, but I disliked Galaxy so much... I can't stand that game. Which is why the Bros. Wii gets my vote. For the time I played it, it was actually enjoyable. I never found Galaxy enjoyable once. 2D Mario is where it's at for me. Then again, I'm not a huge Mario fan, so maybe I'm actually not the one to vote. Galaxy was not innovative or revolutionary. It was basically Mario 64 in a different skin and those spherical planets were done in Ratchet and Clank 3 for PS2. I'd still pick Galaxy over NSMB though. |

Exactly, I respect your choice, but I agree. No way was it revolutionary. Sonic Adventure 2 did the same thing. Galaxy was 64 all over again. But you could say the same for Bros. Wii, only I found it more fun and I liked how the worlds were based more off of nature than previous games. And multiplayer and new suits added new stuff. Who said it was innovative or revolutionary? It's just the best 3D platformer to ever be made. It's practically perfect. I have huge respect for R&C (the reason why I bought a PS3), especially Up Your Arsenal but you really can't touch Mario 'specially Galaxy. Yes Up Your Arsenal did practically start the spherical planet thing, but who started 3D platforming to begin with? Also what about those space levels in SA2? Specifically the one that you play as Rouge. Didn't that come out before Up Your Arsenal? *Coincidentally all three games I just mentioned up there are in my top 10 favorite games of all time. Platformers ftw :D. |

I've read people say it was innovative on the net many times. It's great but not unchallenged as far as platformers go, imo(even by modern ones). Who started 3D platforming? Not Mario. I'd say Sonic with 3D blast, or if isometric doesn't count, Jumping Flash, but definitely not Mario. |

Touche'. Does first good or universally acclaimed 3D platformer sound better? It's the staple of 3D platforming as we know it. Can't we at least agree on that? |

Even at that, Crash Bandicoot released a month earlier than Mario 64. I do agree that it is a staple of 3D platforming which is sadly dying.

If you want to say it's 64 all over again, the same could said about sunshine, or really all 3D Mario games. I liked galaxy, it was a very good game to control, I haven't played said Ratchet and Clank game, but j know the planets in glalaxy were waaaaay easier to control on that the ones in SA2. NSMB was cool, but it got old fast. Which again, is bassically all 2D Mario games all over again, when your dealing with big nintendo titles like Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon, they're all really just a re-design of one of their precessors. |

Sunshine was innovative with the squirt nozzle. A completely new and different aspect to the game. And Galaxy, it isn't perfect (no game is). It was well made and the levels and graphics are great, but the game is just so boring in my mind. I enjoy the retro Mario more, but no way do I regard either as the best game of all time. |

I got to words for you: JESUS MARIO This was a term me and my buddies came up with for Ice Mario in galaxy. It was funny and it stuck. I hated NSMB because with the Ice Mario in it you couldn't walk on water (err... skate I mean). NSMB did get very boring for me after a VERY short while. I took it back after a couple days. Galaxy on the other hand was my favorite addition to the Mario universe. I loved flying around the hub world. And I am sorry to say but Rosalina is kinda hot (For a game character). The only thing I liked about NSMB was that it brought back the Koopalings. That is what got my attention. Edited by KogaHarine, Jan 18 2010, 11:39 AM.
