Gamefreak has a tendency to make new things happen in remakes and forget about adding them in newer games. Take D/P for example. You can't re-battle gym leaders, yet you could do it in Emerald and you could do it in Platinum. Or the Elite Four re-battles, only really makes them tougher in the remakes. This just seems to be their way. And if that's the case, we'll probably see a pokemon follow you in grey version (which they make for updates and predominately revenue).

All of the screenshots (and the new gameplay video which you are talking about) are pretty much the same: The primary puropose of them both is to show off the updated graphics of the new games. They did the same thing with HG/SS when they were first announced, except that they also revealed the 'Pok�mon following you' feature at the same time and seeing as how it was just the starter, it was thought of to be limited to just the starter. :/ We should probably get more info in about 2-3 months. ~Sonic Boom~
