Mere minutes after encountering the judge.. you feel light headed. Once again your spirits feel lifted and you feel reconnection with what is real about you.. and then blackness. You doze for an undetermined time, waking to cheer and sneer.. your legs weak and your eyesight initially blurry, you are met with bars of steel and the same hellish setting to which you've grown accustomed. You see vague silhouettes of the others in their cages as well as your opponent in yours as your sight sharpens. You're so close to the end... But there are still fights to be won. "LET THE ROUND.... BEGIN!" Those loud, bombastic words echoed throughout the arena in that same familiar, grating tone. Though the helmet distorted the words until they were something a little bit more intelligible, Auriel hated them all the more, because of who was speaking them. As he swiftly recovered to his feet, he assessed his surroundings, finding himself in a barred enclosure. A short distance away, the strange metallic fox who mocked him in the cafeteria lay prostrate and inert. It was strange. Despite being made to fight for the entertainment of the impious, he found himself a willing participant. He had to win; he had to face those responsible for this infernal tournament. If he had anything to do with it, those responsible must never be allowed to partake in this kind of sport ever again. Auriel decided to leave his sword and shield on his back. The fox automaton had so far proven himself to be somewhat benign, so he would deal with him as honorably as he could. Striding to the far side of the slowly shrinking (he just noticed) cage, he calmly stood his ground and waited for his opponent to wake. Outside his own cage, the other members of the tourney struggled in their own cages, and he watched theirs shrink with the same slow inevitability as his own. Despite himself, he felt despondence creep into his heart. ''Tis a sad and strange thing,' Auriel thought grimly. The cyborg panned his head to the left and right. He stopped moving his head when he saw Auriel. Directive 2 - Protect the Innocent flashed at the bottom of his HUD when he saw Auriel. Use of non-lethal force recommended Miles then started a slow, methodical walk towards the armored echinda. It was still strange how much he looked like Knuckles. He surveyed his advantages. The echinda seemed to be from a long distant era, as gathered from his period of dress and armament. Besides the 'magic' that he was rumored to demonstrate, which Miles (always the skeptic and scientist first) actually concluded to most likely be Chaos energy manipulation, he seemed to have the advantage here. Step one he thought. Remove weapons from play.

Auriel moved his arms a short distance to either side of himself, palms facing outward to Cy-Fox. "'Ey, still yerself! Oi call truce fer parley!" Reaching up to his helmet with his right hand, Auriel swung open his visor in a gesture of respect. "Yon cage grows smaller wit' each second. We have a better chance t' live if we work together t' get out of here if we work together. 'Tis th' Prisoner's Dilemma. Escape alone, th' other dies; the two together escape alive." The Cage continued its inward march, punctuating the need of which Auriel spoke. "What say you? Teamwork, neh?"

"I will assist you." He continued to move towards Auriel, but as he did so, he looked around at the cage, scanning different portions. If worse came to worse, he could rely on his motorized limbs to push the cage ceiling up.

Auriel allowed himself to exhale, an abrupt snort which escaped his nose. It was always a blessing to find rationality in a complete stranger. "Well then," Auriel began, "Let's get t' makin' a way out of 'ere." From what he remembered from his childhood education, a cage was always weakest at the entry point. Failing that, the points where the cage walls intersect could be manipulated open. Brute force could be applied; through the proper channeling of the Chaos Force, such force could be amplified. "Oi don' see a way in 'r out. Oi think th' best way out is to force open the cage at the corner. Oi think if Oi can..." Auriel trailed off as the inward progression of the cage faltered with a loud grinding noise. A quick glance around him confirmed that the cage had indeed slowed down significantly, accompanied by the sound of rusty iron grating against itself. It was an opportunity, and they may not get another one. Sparing as little seconds as possible, Auriel unsheathed his sword and faced one of the corners. Putting a hand on the side of the weapon, he began to chant in a low murmur. Blessed Aurora, Goddess o' th' Dawn, Who illuminates th' shadow wi' th' mornin' sun, Oi yer servant plead yer aid in this hour o' need. From th' noonday sun's bright gaze shining, Let its fire blaze from my offered sword, With melted cage your servants will be freed. In response, the air surrounding the sword flared to life with fire-imbued Chaos Energy. Grasping the handle with both hands, he lunged/thrusted at the corner of the cage in one smooth motion. The point of the sword wedged itself inbetween the bars close to the corner. The Air began to sizzle and ripple with heat, and the bars slowly began to change color, heating up due to their contact with the fire-coated sword. "Oi'm gonna try t' melt the bars! You can use yer strength t' pry them open once they're severed!"

He raised both arms slightly to ready himself to work on the bars. If the bars melt he thought. And if they don't, the odds of whether or not I'll be able to do anything with them might raise themselves a little bit

Grammar: 9/10 - Perfect, except you capitalized the word 'air' in your last post. Normally, I wouldn't dock points for such a minor slight, but there's a grand total of 6 posts between you two, so it kinda stands out. Adaptation to Environment: 7/10 - Devoted all your attention to attacking the cage, but only made limited reference to outside fights. Entertainment: 8/10 - Interesting plan of attack on the cage there; smart thinking, using heat to weaken the metal first. However, the non-combat approach to this round both helped and hurt the end result in this category. Cy-Fox Fair Play: 10/10 - Nothing really called for fair or unfair action in this one. Grammar: 10/10 - No problems. Adaptation to Environment: 4/10 - Nothing too special here. Entertainment: 6/10 - Short posts, nothing exceptionally engaging. Your first post was the best, but the others began to flag a bit. As with Talancir, the sudden departure from combat both helped and hurt with this one. Grammar: 9/10 - The capitalization of Air is the only thing that stands out. Adaptation to Environment: 7/10 - The inclusion of other fights was noted slightly and your post details were solid. Entertainment: 9/10 - You said you were writing through a block and it did show a tad with a little dent in what is usually 10/10 material. Everything was solid and I still enjoy the way Auriel is portrayed in character and in his accent which always seems to be a nice bonus. The idea to avert from fighting to try and unite against the judges was unexpected but welcome. Cy-Fox Fair Play: 10/10 - See Fair Play - Tal \|D Grammar: 10/10 - Can't see anything wrong here. Adaptation to Environment: 5/10 - You handled describing the cage n' such well, but without any inclusion of the other matches I'm not compelled to increase your score. Solid otherwise. Entertainment: 6/10 - Your intro post was solid and I looked forward to what would follow it, but you seemed to sputter down the stretch and it really broke your flow as I couldn't get into what you were writing. I like how Cy always boots up like a computer, that little unique method to your posts does add originality that is always big with my entertainment scores. Auriel - 35 + 34 = 69 Cy-Fox - 31 + 30 = 61 Winner of the round is Auriel by 8 points. You both did a good job considering your respective blocks and I commend your effort in making it to this point and sticking with the tournament. Auriel will be returned to the Cafeteria (along with all other winners) and Cy will be moved to the Void.
