Sega's new console?; A complete hoax or the truth?

There's rumors circulating around the Internet that SEGA is in the process, as we speak (er...type), of making a new console. I personally think that it's a lie. Now, honestly, I respect SEGA, and I've always supported them, their games and the work they do; but, for them to SUPPOSEDLY develop a new console when they're this deep in the ground is plain and simple suicide. Plus, being that the holidays are closing in on us, they are not in the right position to release a new console, if they really are planning to release in 2010.

How about it? Is it a hoax, or is it really true? You decide.

I've heard of this rumor as well, but I don't believe any of that load of crap. Nintendo seems to be the only thing keeping Sega going, it doesn't seem likely at all that they could suddenly find enough resources to become independent again. Even if it is true, it'd take a hell of a good system to compete with PS3 and 360, which would cost a lot of money to produce.

I think it's probably not real. It would be hard for Sega to make a console that would be able to sell as well as the current systems. But if it is real, that still would be pretty cool though.

Christmas is back again

I don't even look into the link. It's a rumour, I doubt SEGA will ever walk back in creating consoles again. And even so, I've heard in about 10 years, consoles have been taken away from the marker. Can't even tell whether I should believe this, but o well.

I still can't use this.

I remember hearing about these names being copyrighted awhile ago, but they were rumored as either being potential Sonic or NiGHTS games or just some development tech. Regardless of what this really is, I'm not convinced. Companies extend copyrights to things they will never produce all the time. It's just a small safety measure, not outright confirmation of anything.

So as far as I'm concerned, until Sega actually announces it, these are just baseless rumors.

Rumours have been circulating for years about Sega planning to launch a console. Give me one good reason to believe this next set of stories no doubt stirred up by moronic fanboys, who deludedly wish this to be true, and I may just believe this. Until then, this is just an empty rumour. :???:

I object to your claims
I seriously doubt it. As Dan said, rumors have been around for years about whether or not SEGA has been making a new console-and they've all been false. Why should this be any different?

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first heard of them and their ner "console creation" rumors. Nothing is true until some further proof -- proof from Sega themselves -- is shown.

What is the difference between a duck?

SEGA has made great profits as a 3rd party company and arguably done far better since their early days where their console efforts began to flounder and flop... I doubt they'd risk their status again as they've already fallen off the truck once.

Agreed. I've just had a look at the sources; the first source just directs me to an unrelated page, and the second one says some crap about Sega calling the consoles, which there are apparently two of, "Ring Edge", and "Ring Wide". Is there actually anything about those two names that doesn't sound retarded? XD

at first it looked kinda real, and i almost had a heart attack, but i think it might be fake. I mean, like you said, Sega isn't really doing as good as nintendo, or microsoft, and probably won't get enough support for comeing out with a new console. Especially since the Dreamcast died to the Playstation 2, This one might die to the 360 or wii.

Note: i didn't include PS3. why? cause i hate it.

They always say this about Sega, but it never happens. I think I've seen three similar topics since I joined SB, all at different times.

I agree with this post completely. I think it's a good way to get Sonic on track anyway by him having his own system.
