Devil May Cry 3![]() Developer:Capcom Production Studio 1 Genre: Hack and slash, Action Release Date: March 1, 2005 Number of Players: 1 Platforms: PS2 PLOT: Thousands of years ago, there existed a Demon World that was closely intertwined with Earth. Demons sought to invade the planet, but did not foresee the retaliation of one of their own; the legendary Dark Knight, Sparda. With no ally but his sword, Sparda waged a one-man war on demon-kind to protect the humans. He succeeded and sealed the demon world's gate, preventing demons from emerging. Many years later, our protagonist Dante is washing up in his yet-to-be-named shop. A man enters and grants Dante an invitation and an escort to a grand party. The invitation was to a tower that had suddenly risen from the very ground. The escort was a horde of blood thirsty demons. CONCEPT: You are Dante, a shoot-first-ask-questions-later kinda guy who knocks demons back to the hell that is there home with a simple shove. Calm, cocky, and always finding the wild way to do things, Dante sees himself as the life of the party. But it's your job to make sure he lasts. Devil May Cry 3 is all about combat: If you're not fighting a horde of lesser demons, you're fighting an interesting boss with unique powers and abilities. But that's not to say this is a button-masher. Using weapons in the right way at the right time will increase the 'style' guage, which shows how interesting your combos are. There are also some surprising puzzles and bonus areas. GRAPHICS As DMC3 was the third game in the series, it has vastly superior graphics in comparison to the others. This is not to say that the first two were bad to look at, but 3 really showed what the PS2 is capable of in a game like this. The expressions are sometimes a bit odd and some textures look flat, but these don't ruin the game. Each motion is beautifully executed due to the game using a motion capture system. SOUND: SOUND EFFECTS: From the whistle of a sword swinging through the air to the fire of a gun, everything sounds quite good. The guns, however, do sound fake at times. MUSIC: Fitting the gothic and action-filled mood of the game, the music in this game is never dull . . . except when it's not playing. Music only seems to play while in the menu or during battle. VOICEACTING: Each character's voice really shows their personality. From Dante's partyboy yells and laid-back insults to Virgil's calm, mocking tone, each voice in the game, even for the demons, fits their holders perfectly. GAMEPLAY: CONTROLS: Simple and responsive, I've rarely if ever encountered problems with this game's controls. In fact, the hardest thing about them is getting used to how you do things like switch weapons. CAMERA: The camera in the game is always fixed to a certain angle. This means that if you enter a room from the south you'd get the same view as your would from a higher exit. The view is usually like that of a security camera: low enough to see what's going on, but high enough to see the surrounding area. FINAL SCORING: GRAPHICS: 9.5/10 (Great, but not perfect.) SOUND: 8/10 (The music and stuff's good when it's actually playing.) GAMEPLAY: 10/10 (Fast pace + high risk = Epic Win.) REPLAYABILITY: 8/10 (Trying to get an SS rank on every mission is difficult, and the various side difficulties like Heaven or Hell can really have you ripping at your hair.) ENTERTAINMENT: 8.5/10 (Though it is fun, after a playthrough or so in gets predictable.) OVERALL: 9/10 This is one of my favorite games of all time, and the fact that I got the Special Edition version only helped. The special edition includes the following features and more: Turbo Mode: For those who think this game's too slow. New Optional Boss Fights: Give that clown something to laugh about! Very Hard Mode: Not as tough as Heaven or Hell, but it'll give you a run for your money. New Playable Character!: You know that guy that kicked Dante's ass in the intro? Yeah, have fun. I never got to try DMC3... In fact the only DMC I've owned was 2 and it was not very good. I've heard 3 was on par with the first. It's a shame that DMC4 was bad like the second one. |

Metallix, you need to play DMC 4. That game was most likely the best out of all the series. It is followed closely by DMC 3. It has great graphics, weapons, and combat. At least give it a rent. Although, it is kinda hard to get into, takes about an hour or 2 but once you do get into the game, its fun. |
