Well, I was wondering what it would be like if they had a Sonic game based on Archie Sonic. Sega tried to make one, but the idea was scrapped after it was put in the prototype stage. Um, that's ridiculous. One comic series will not give name credibility to the likes of another company with huge history and many good comics. Why do they need market share again? I don't see why you care anyway, Archie Sonic is fairly popular. What's the beef? You don't like Archie? Edited by Neo Metallix, Nov 29 2009, 01:42 PM.

Of course it won't, but I figured it'd be the image I could easily conjure to demonstrate just exactly what just the first Sonic game did for Sega and how popular the games were and still are. To overthrow a competitor who has a 90% worldwide marketshare and has their major product in 75% of American homes is a huge and nearly unprecedented achievement, and one that the failing Sega managed to accomplish with just the first Sonic game, the major Genesis outing that was the least successful. Anyways, you want marketshare because it describes how many people are buying your product. For example, say there are 100 potential buyers for your product. If your competitor has 80% of the marketshare while you have the remaining 20%, then you're only making money off of twenty people which puts you in a horrific standing. The more marketshare you have, the more money you're making, and the better off you are. And frankly, my care about the situation amounts to a fly-by observation I made about one post I personally perceived as preposterous enough to respond to at the moment, that Archie Sonic was as big or popular as Sega Sonic; Seriously, ask anyone on the street who Sonic is and their first thought will be the games. Besides, you act as if I'm saying Archie is the least popular comic of all time or that I'm losing sleep over Archie's success or something. More power to them, in fact; I don't care about that. xP And no, I don't particularly like/care for the Archie Sonic series beyond Sonic X. What's it matter to you that I don't? |

So? Outside of the fans, the games aren't popular anymore and Sonic is no longer a public icon with today's media or even gamers. Maybe Archie isn't as popular as the games of the past, but they are quite popular. I just thought it was preposterous to compare Archie to Marvel like Sonic is on Marvel's status anymore. |

Sonic may not be as popular as he once was, but he's still a public icon. He's Sega's mascot after all and his games are still heavily advertised in appropriate places; That much is certain. And once again, I'm not denying the comic's popularity. I already said that I knew it was the longest-running game-based comic, after all. xP And you completely missed the point of my analogy. I wasn't comparing Archie or even Sonic to Marvel. I was comparing Sega's success in the 90s to a theoretical scenario in which a comic allowed its publisher to overtake Marvel. As such, Marvel equated to Nintendo. =/ Edited by BlizShadow, Nov 29 2009, 03:37 PM.

An Icon? That I would disagree with, unless you just mean an icon to the Sega corporation and not to the public. He isn't advertised or in the media anymore than any other character. If anything, the general media does not even mention or care about him anymore. Also the general gaming public views him as washed up. I still like Sonic games, but that's just my observations. |

An icon by definition is just anything that is readily recognizable by the public, a symbol if you will, which Sonic is as a popular character and Sega's mascot and subsequently their most prominent and successful series. He's a public icon regardless of whether or not he is or isn't as popular as he used to be. And the mainstream media doesn't reference video games all the time in general, regardless of their popularity within gaming culture, because gaming as a whole is far less popular and more controversial than other forms of media. |

Self-loathing optimist.

Well I do agree with Bliz that archie Sonic, though good, is no where near as popular as the games. I do admit in this day and age it would be awesome to see a Archie Sonic game. Imagine if it was a lil open world, and seeing Knothole and Mobotropolis rendered in current gen graphics... that would be eyesex to behold... owo |

At first, it was going to be on the Genesis, but then production was moved to the 32X. |
