Just another sketch of a burd and whatnot. I finished out last year super slowly even if I did get that big picture out of the way, I've been doodling moreso recently so it feels like the creative juices are slowly coming back online. Here's to this year being more filled with art than 2011 was. xD |

 Everyone here at =SB= gets a good... several hour jump on this picture before its dA release. Wanted something nice for my first big picture of the year so I decided to revamp everything and give the style a slightly more three dimensional look. Being snowed in only gave me more time to work and I ended up finishing the coloring and most of the lining in one day. The lining is now more discreet with this style and I added fabric textures to the gloves and shoe sashes since it seemed like a nice touch. The Character is Kam the Cardinal, a character I've doodled a few times in a multitude of ways, but finally created his rather sharp looking Sonic look. The black cheek/chest feathers wrap around all the way to the back of his head. He wears band-aids on his beak just as a quirky sense of fashion.. maybe could use that for holiday pics or awareness pics (green/red for holidays -- pink for breast cancer awareness n so on) and his shoes are little steam jets that heat the air for airborne mobility.. seems redundant for a bird to have rocket shoes but that's the fun of it. Start small and work your way up, use tutorials, find styles/artists you like and use their works as some form of inspiration to help shape what you'd like to do.. for mobian style characters there is no shortage of basic references whether they be from the internet, or in the form of archie comics or whatnot. But I would recommend a basic basic idea of human anatomy at the very least, especially if you want to work on more precise details at any point. I recommend Posemaniacs.com for stuff like that. The easiest thing you can try to do is break the bodies down into basic shapes to learn proportions and curvature more easily. Like how hands are hard to some, it gets a little easier if you first take a look at your own hand, get a good idea of it, and try to break it into parts based on your angular view and what you want to do. For example, when I see a hand from the back down I typically see..  A little crude to follow but it sort of gets the point across. Try to imagine how you want your pics to look in your head and try to concentrate to where you can sort of project that image onto a screen or paper "trace" that projection. The most important thing is to just keep working at it. You don't draw the Mona Lisa on day one... but if you work at it and stay committed to improvement you will see improvement, I mean just look over this archive of my work, I feel like I've come quite a long way from where I started (picked up where I left off anyway) a few short years ago. |

Agree with Ayane, you got talent. I like all of your drawings and how they turn out when you are finished. I'd kill to draw as good as you and be able to have that program to finish out my drawings. Don't take it literal though... |

I take it very literal.. but I've got a firewall around my talents, killing me alone won't get the job done. xDDD Thanks to everyone for the support and feedback as usual.  It isn't completely accurately shaded mainly because I can't do his main fur shading, it would just be far too dark. Imagine Saff an inch or two taller (noticeable on short mobian frames) a bit more bulky, his primary color being the same as his back quills and the whites of his eyes being black. That is basically what Transfixed Saff would be like. The Transfixed entity is the ultimate result of Dr. Sark's (Sadistic) scientific formula that became only more corrupted as the doctor became more lost in his own transformation brought on by Saff's dramatic escape from his prison labs. Sadistic's true persona was lost long ago to a sinister primal instinct that has basically taken him over and it is the inevitable end for anyone who is transformed. Saff managed to escape with only half of the process complete and that alone changed him drastically, and he was able to live a mildly decent life with a select few friends who welcomed him in despite his altercations.. but the appearance of Ruin the Quetzal (only the second fully transfixed character known of at the time) led to suspicions that Sark was trying to start from the ground up on an army of Transfixed.. but it was a trap. To put it shortly.. I have enjoyed a few years of tinkering with Saff as a character both in image and in his story, I have prepared final modifications and am about to bring on a finale, an end to Saff's "canon" storyline, to which the transfixed transformation is a major part.. I can't promise an exact time but I hope the whole background recap and ending will be worthy of the character, only time will tell. |

Thanks Brandon, and I plan to, starting right now! Figured I'd stick with coloring my sketches, combining traditional and digital, since it has been my hot hand as of late. I colored him with random woody/earthy/mossy splotches and overlays of HD shots of bark, his charred side being an overlay of charred bark after a lightning strike. An ent character for a roleplay I'm in.. okay it's DnD.. I really don't have a lot else to do on Wednesdays so I use the lil DnD meets for an excuse to hang out with a bunch of my pals and mooch on free pizza and drinks at Alfys where we do the roleplay. He is named Alder as you can see, and he is basically a tree that was struck by a bolt of lightning that for whatever reason was magical and implanted the seed of a spirit in him that gave him life. He serves as a protector of the forest and can be highly aggressive/territorial although slow due to his mass and short legs, though for purposes of the roleplay, obviously has to find common ground with everyone else. When speaking, slightly opens his maw but speaks in a reverberating powerfual whisper through telepathy, kind of like Violator from Spawn. Half of his body was charred black from the lightning strike that split him (the split is mainly visible in his shoulder, where half of his whole trunk became his arm/shield, the tear resembling sets of teeth kind of. The charred hand has all of his power, as he is able to use "touch" variations of ice/fire/decay magic, which are all usually something unwieldable by something wooden due to the fact that they are all supposed to be detrimental. The decay touch is basically a way to mulch an opponent down by rotting them into compost essentially.. He's not much of an offensive force in and of himself despite his size just because of how slow he is, but if he gets a grab in, whatever he gets ahold of will likely be dead. We haven't gotten far along yet but eventually he will be able to turn other trees into basic ents by touch.. and that will be fun I'm sure. xD |

I practice and practice, follow other people's advice, and all of that happy horse stuff, but I can never make a drawing that either pleases me or others. I used to draw good at 13, then, it slowly starts to fade away. But, I don't give up. |
