 Chapter One: Dawn of a New Century


It is the year 2299 on planet Earth. Machines dominate a large portion of human lives, doing jobs ranging from trimming bushes to filing top secret documents for the military. Humans live in peace with eachother, and have taken to raiding and setting up mines on other planets to gather material to build and enhance their lives even further.

The term 'raid' is actually a taboo word now, as the government keeps the stealing of other races supplies and resources a secret to keep the public calm. As such, the government has formed multiple 'Raid Squads' to secretly leave Earth to lead raids at the mines.



"Echo Three, this is Echo One, what's your status?" spoke a voice to a man sitting in the cockpit of a strange machine. "In position, awaiting orders, sir." the pilot responded.

"Echo Two, yours?" he asked a woman. "Same." she said. "Alright. Tango Six, prepare for ejection." spoke the voice, likely the leader. "Alright!" yelled a voice in response, sounding nowhere near as disciplined as the others.

The leader sighed. "Deployment crew, this is Echo One. We are prepared to begin." he said. "Copy that Echo One." said a woman.

The pilots of the vehicles pulled the odd controls of their machines back, making their seat go backwards as well. Steel restraints secured them, and helmets covered the heads of all but Tango Six. "Tango Six, secure your helmet." ordered Echo One. "Ah, loosen up Chief!" he said in response.

"Deployment in ten, nine . . ." began the woman in charge of the deployment crew. "Three . . . two . . . one, deploying Raiding Squad!"

Latches secured around the bottom of the machines and, keeping them in their grip, launched them out of the hanger of the ship. Two aerial mechs, those belonging to Echo Two and Three, swirled in the air around eachother. Echo One's mech, an odd shark-like machine, projected a powerful forcefield in front of itself. The forcefield destroyed the ground as it made contact, and the shark mech began to 'swim' through the ground.

Tango Six's mech was the last to be launched. The mech was painted dark orange and black. It had two large legs with double-jointed feet. There was a panel on each side of the mech two feet beneath the cockpit. Large hook-like attachments were grafted onto the back of the mech's joints, which bent both forward and back.

Tango Six's mech hit the dirt running, taking enormous steps that soon sent it in front of the others. The kangaroo-like machine quickly approached a large fortress-like facility seemingly built into a mountainside.

Multiple creatures looked at the approaching raiders. These creatures stood seven feet tall and had eight-fingered hands at the end of their unfittingly long arms, three of which faced backwards and one to either side. Their legs were short but had opposable thumbs with six fingers. They also had two more arms, though these were much shorter and seemed to simply rest on their chests, five fingers each.

The aliens had long skulls with equally impressive teeth on the bottom jaw. Their two beady eyes focused intensely at the oncoming attackers while their dog-like noses sniffed the air. Long ears drooped down their backs. Each of the aliens had weapons with three long barrels, a large trigger, and a blue glowing core. Several more of the cores were strung around the alien's hips.

"Leaowa!" shouted one of them, pointing with his foot. The creatures all walked with their long, powerful arms instead of their short, weak legs. Upon hearing the screech of one of the lookouts, the others quickly began to scramble, taking up defensive positions. Several came to handstand behind turret-like weapons and gripped the controls with their feet.

"Yragh!" yelled the lookout. The others all opened fire, those not at turrets firing the weapons they held in their hands. White bolts of energy shot from the weapons in a firey rain upon the raiders.

"Team, evasive actions!" ordered Echo One. The two in the air quickly began preforming barrel rolls and flying in circles to avoid those focusing on the air. Echo One's mech swam in a zigzag pattern to avoid the rain from above. It then dove deeper into the ground.

Tango Six's mech, one would think, would have the most difficulty avoiding the enemy fire. But the machine sped forward, making subtle changes in its course when the lasers drew too close. As it approached the gate it crouched low, the legs protruding from the side and still running, and leapt high into the air.

The machine landed on the gate, almost completely crushing it. As the aliens turned their fire to this enemy, it swept its legs in a wide range, killing the aliens too close. When the turrets turned to him, the panels on the sides of the mech pulled back, revealing twin machine guns. A rapid barrage of bullets shredded three turrets. As the final one trained its sights on Tango Six, Echo One's shark leapt over the wreckage of the gate from the ground and tackled the turret, destroying it. The shark dove back into the ground.

A loud siren wailed, and a large mech emerged from a hanger. The mech, shaped similarly to a human, attempted to pull Tango apart with its bare hands. Tango leapt behind it and jumped towards the machine with one leg foward, forcing it to the ground and keeping it there. The pilot turned as a digital clock built into the cockpit buzzed. It said '12:00 A.M'.

"Happy New Year, Spock." The pilot said, shredding the enemy with his mech's machine guns.
