Blue Makes You More Creative

Stumbled across this whilst reading Focus:
November BBC Focus Magazine (Page 44)

Blue is the colour
In February, Ravi Megta and Juliet Zhu at the University of British Columbia published a study in the journal Science suggesting that simply looking at the colour blue can unlock our inner creativity. The study involved getting participants to complete problem-solving tasks on a computer screen that had either a red or a blue background. They found blue prompted twice as many creative flashes as red.

Any thoughts?

I liked it better when my name text, was normal. D:
Blue is a pretty rare colour in the biosphere. My room is blue and that's where I've produced the most music, and you know that. But beyond it's biotic rarity it's a pretty common colour, in our artificial bubble. I dunno, me and Alex have made a lot of shit in his room as well; it's also painted blue. I'm too skeptical to even pretend that I support this though, as I made Plaster in a dark pink and purple room. And one would believe it's how bright the colour is which inspires.

Doing a little research, I stumbled across this article on the psychological properties of colours. It occurs to me that if this article is correct and that blue appears further away than red due to its wavelength, then it could have something to to with another part of the "How to be creative" section of the magazine:
November BBC Focus Magazine (Page 44)

Long distance
Lile Jia and colleagues at Indiana University have shown that people tend to be more creative when dealing with problems that seem far away from them. According to the 'construal level theory' of psychological distance, this is because the brain is more abstract in its representation of concepts that aren't firmly in the here and now. This gives it the latitude to think more creatively.
Could it be that blue stimulates creativity more than red due to perceived distance, or is there something I am not fully understanding?

I object to your claims
That's an interesting little study. Wonder if it's really true.

Blue is also a "cool" color (along with green and purple) that make you feel like slowing down and relaxing. Probably why a blue room would make you feel like being creative.

I actually remember a few other things about the effects of color on people from art class...like how restaurants are decorated.

Compare a fast food joint to a nice sit-down restaurant.

The fast food joint will usually have brighter colors, and more "warm" colors like red, yellow, and orange. Llook at the logos of McDonald's, Arby's, KFC, Wendy's, etc and the colors of their food and drink containers. Bright colors make you feel like getting up and moving around. This is meant to encourage you to eat and then leave the restaurant quickly, so the next round of customers can come in. Fast food joints rely on the volume of customers for profit.

Sit-down restaurants with actual waiters and such, meanwhile, tend to have more subdued colors...and more "cool" colors as well. Why? They make you feel like relaxing and lingering around for a while...and hopefully order more food. Sit-down places rely more on you ordering bigger amounts of food for profit.

Hmm...I can see how that can be true...My favorite color has always been blue, and I'm one of the most imaginative people I know.

Well, I'm going to need some creativity at work today, so I decided to wear all blue. Let's hope it helps me figure out the best way to write these SQL statements I've been having a lot of trouble with.

I'm not entirely convinced about this, to be honest. My creativity is mostly done in a pink room ¬.¬ very little blue to be seen anywhere. I'm personally of the belief that an active imagination is fuelled not by stuff like that, but how comfortable you are. And I'd rather sit in my pink bedroom than downstairs with a big distracting TV, two cats fighting for my attention, blah blah...

Dont you dare look me in the eye!!
The rock turquentine is blue and is thought to bring to bring sucess.

As for blue bringing creativity, i would not entirely agree with that. I believe that people react to different colours, using myself as an example i would react to the colour green. :TPS:

But..

The majority of time creactivity comes form oneself, i have sat inside a snow hole for a night on my travels and it was pure white (much like a blank page) and yet i still found creativity.

I guess it's true. Three days ago I was haveing some major writers block. The day after I thought to do my writing outside, in the sunshine. And well... DUN-NA! Healed.

Then again it could be all in the head.

Blue draws less attention than red, thus improving focus.

"How much do you love me?"
"This much." He said.
And He spread out His arms and died.
