I still can't use this.

These are some things that I've just went along with for the time being, but several false reports in the past as well as the latest one today have brought a few thoughts of mine to the foreground.

Number one being the allowance of topics regarding non-Sonic based Sega IPs in the Sega Channel. I completely understand the logic, but there was really no overwhelming need or motion to change it from the way we had it before which was merely keeping the section Sonic exclusive. This is, after all, a Sonic based forum, not a Sega one, so it would stand to reason that a section dedicated exclusively to the games franchise would be absolutely mandatory. But as of right now, seeing a Billy Hatcher topic there is just irksome and out of place to me.

Sequing from that are Sonic-based game reviews in the appropriate section. I realize there's only one in there now, but it does raise a good question: Couldn't Sonic reviews logically be in two places at once-- The Sega Channel and the Gaming Reviews sections? Such ambiguity should not be had for any reason whatsoever. All topics should have a concrete place for where they're placed, hence the reason why we even create specialized sections on boards in the first place. Either Sonic reviews belong in the Sega section or the Gaming Reviews Section.

And finally, speaking of Gaming Reviews.... is it necessary enough to warrant its existence? Why couldn't gaming reviews just be left in the regular gaming section? After all, it's been there for three months and only has eighteen topics. I realize the holiday rush hasn't hit yet, but one would think there would be more than enough games coming out recently and already existing to give the section some more life. But there is definitely lacking interest, supporting my assumption that it was added just for the heck of it. xP

I kinda agree with the game reviews thing. We have GameFAQs and that's what it's for. :P

Agreed.

Mainly because I have found it out of place for a gaming review section to exist and not be a sub forum of the actual gaming forum.

I object to your claims
I agree. I don't see why the game review section shouldn't be a sub forum of the gaming forum myself.

I think that if you don't want non-Sonic Sega stuff appearing, you should rename the channel. Sega Channel? Implies to me that posting anything Sega related is fine. What if anyone wants to discuss Shenmue? That's a MASSIVE Sega game. What if I were to discuss the merits of some of the Mega Drive's previous updates?
Change the name of the tin, if you don't like it.

Because it would go further unnoticed than it already is. Subforums fail, almost always. There is no need for them, unless they are unimportant parts of the forum. When building a forum, you want most of it to be on the front page. Gamefaqs is nice but also overrun by crap in general, it is nice to have reviews from fellow members that you know instead of some complete stranger.

As far as the Sega thing, I think it's just nitpicking on stuff that doesn't really matter each way. What's funny is it has been the same way it has been for nearly a year now and now it's a problem? It's not like Sega has so many games to discuss that it just floods the section and makes it hard to find Sonic topics.

Plus, might I add, there's already a dedicated Sonic Universe section...

Metallix has somewhat of a point. I don't think the name is the problem, but so much as the addendum that allows non-Sonic topics. After all, that section was named as such for quite a long while, even before this was allowed I think, so I wouldn't blame the influx of those topics on that. Sure, it can probably be an enabler, but alas the addendum is ultimately the major problem.

Now, the Sonic Universe section is specifically for every Sonic topic that isn't first and foremost a game-related discussion (although I admit this line does blur sometimes and I may have advocated we slim the entire Sonic section forum down in general before anyways). But, if we're going to have a Game and an Everything Else section, then we should keep them as merely just that instead of expanding on them constantly. There's no need to let Sega's entire portfolio be allowable (which is indeed quite large Metallix) for discussion in that section when such topics can be and originally were just as much at home elsewhere.

And regardless of whether or not the Gaming Review section is its own forum or a subforum, it must still be asked Metallix-- Why do we need the section at all when gaming reviews can have their own topic in the gaming section, or better yet, be a part of a game's official topic* like what's been done with some of the Sonic game topics?

*Yes indeed, that is another minor nitpick of mine. We don't need multiple topics for one game in that section and especially not the rampant fanboyism, but we'll talk about that later. :P

There certainly aren't enough NEW Sega games coming out now days that will keep flooding the section. Most of those old games will never be discussed. I see what you're saying though, I'll make some adjustments to the section or you may do it if you want.

As for the review section, we don't exactly need it separate, but at the same time I don't think we need it all condensed. It's was moved separately for it to be easier to find reviews(a cluster**** of posts in one topic isn't going to work unless someone has links to each individual post in the thread that is a review and I don't see anyone doing that) and so it gets more attention that a pinned topic.

There are multiple gaming topics because some just simply die. There's no need to create tons of threads only for a specific game. That would almost like having subforums just in topic form. I really don't see anyone posting fanboyish topics in there anyway and people who have pointed out things in the past have blown things out of proportion.

What was a simple joke between me and bowie got its own topic pointing it out in there, which just drags it on. I guess it was my fault for not deleting those posts. Outside of those little quarrels, there haven't been any fanboy comments in that section that I have noticed. Besides, there is nothing wrong with a healthy debate. Why is debate considered fanboyish nowadays anyway? In some cases I just try to get some discussion going because no one posts about gaming in there anyway, it's dull.
