Hard to find good co op games these days...

Is anyone else sad about this trend in video games?

Used to, you could find games everywhere that would let you and a friend play through the main story mode of a game together. I have tons of NES and SNES games from many genres where this was a mode. Action games, shooters, platformers, beat-em-ups, racing…even an RPG or two.

Nowadays the only two good co-op games I can name offhand are Left 4 Dead and Resident Evil 5. But me and my best friend have played those to death now, and he doesn’t like older games like I do. Yeah, tons of games feature online multiplayer, but that’s usually when you’re playing against each other. We’re specifically after games where we can work together to get through the main story mode...without having to play online.

Any recommendations aside from those two?

Resistance 2 has one of the best co-op modes I've played in a shooter. The best thing about it is Resistance 2 does not offer co-op for the single player campaign. Cooperative mode features a separate campaign mode which runs parallel to the single-player campaign so it doesn't ruin the main campaign like many games do. I'm not saying campaign co-op is always horrible, but there are a lot of games now days that just mess it up.

Anyway the Co-Op on Resistance 2 supports 2-8 player online with support for split screen to play with a buddy(you don't even need to have other online players, but it would be hard with only two I would believe). Three classes: soldier(big guns/can endure more damage), medic(heals team mates/drains enemies health), and special ops(long distance damage dealers/gives team mates ammo). You all have to work together to beat the missions, because going in alone will get you killed. Also if you find Co-Op to be too easy, there is a SuperHuman Co-Op that is much harder. In this mode the difficulty is turned up much higher and if you die, you die, there's no coming back until the next round.

This is what is the results of all that play online stuff that I don't like. I don't have anyone to play games with, but with online play now popular, not with me at all, I guess game companies want to stress the online in some games more than the story mode that us single player people like. I would prefer more single player games, but I do think co op games like you say are great additions too. All this online stuff also has a limit to how long it will be useful. At one point in the future, those servers are cut off. Once that has happened, the online features of the game are going to be worthless. That's why I think the Co op games like you say are a good idea.
I'm a gamer and always will be a gamer. If you don't believe me. I have 430 Video Games and 19 Consoles.

I doubt you could beat that unless you are a gamer as well! =P

So, let's see if you can outdo "The Jet Gamer"

Quiet, please, it's snack time!
If you want a comedic Co-Op experience, The Simpsons Game is pretty good. The start is a little boring, but it gets a lot better as you go along.

The Halo series, some older PC RPGs like Dungeon Seige and Arcanum, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1&2, X-Men Legends 1&2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Dungeons and Dragons Heroes (loved that one, pity Mum and Dad sold it...), I think Star Wars: Battlefront 1&2 allow it... That's as much as I can care to think of at this present time. ^_^;;

Yes, I think it's despicable that co-op campaigns are becoming rarer and rarer these days. It seems like the modern gamer would prefer to shoot his friends than work with them.

Christmas is back again

Whether I think it's PS3 am I correct.
Well like Shadre mentioned. I believe Borderlands could be a nice new Co-Op experience. Then I know a few more on the Xbox. Like Gears of War 2, the already mentioned Halo series, Sacred 2, (but I don't recommend it, if your no hack and slash player, and accept dozens with dozens of glitches.)
I frankly ain't sure whether there are that many Co-Op games outside the online area. As that's what gamers focus on more.

Then again. There's more, but I haven't looked em out. There's like one or two more out there. At least this fall.
But I'd say Borderlands. I'm even thinking about it my self. Yet, I can't use money on all games this fall. That would ruin me to a extent I wish not to live with. XD

Yeah, Borderlands has some epic co-op. Me and a friend tried to do some quests and got owned. But I started a new character and got g0d-modded, and when he joined,we were just blasting through everything. It was pretty awesome.

Borderlands=Epic. Get it.

Halo is always a blast in coop. Gears makes you strategize providing it's on hardcore or insane. two good coop games.

Well, if you have an Xbox 360, I would recommend; Halo 1,2, 3, and ODST, Gears of War 1 and 2, and Call of Duty: WaW
