People who use PC's know ways to prevent them from getting them in the first place.
My mom uses a PC

so does my grandma

Don't assume.
Oh, so you're saying that just because your mom and grandma don't know much about computers it automatically makes everyone else who uses a PC the same way? Also, you're one to talk about not making assumptions, what you just said is a huge assumption based on people you know personally.

Linux. *Kills thread*

But I personally prefer Macs. I usually run about a billion things at a time and Macs can juggle multiple applications pretty well. Also, they don't have quite the vulnerability of PC in terms of viruses and such. Yes, I know how to prevent viruses, I just don't want to have to waste my time with processing-whore antivirus software and the constant clean up tools (which, Mac does automatically in the background). ;)

Besides, Mac runs Windows pretty well with apps like Boot Camp, so for those few Windows applications that you may need, you can still use them. I know you can technically do the same by running a Mac on PC, but it's a lot more fiddly (but sure beats the price tag). *I hope to build a Hackintosh sometime, just for the hell of it.*

You just described the typical Linux user, not the typical Windows user. :\

Macs are nothing now, they're just horribly-designed pieces of shit with OS X, which is only licensed on Apple hardware. Now that they use Intel-based processors, they can use Windows and Linux now.
But hey, PCs are superior, but I do hate how OEMs love to bloat up factory installs. I like clean installs from my own discs. :)

You're making more of a generalized assumption. I know three people that are good with computers, and one of them owns a Mac. And when I say good, I mean they're freakin' geniuses.

And I know a TON of people that own PCs, and most of them don't know CRAP when it comes to computers. Saying that most PC owners know what they're doing is absolutely ridiculous, because nearly everyone owns a PC, and not everyone knows what they're doing 80% of the time.

That may be true, but its not like most PC users don't know ANYTHING about computers, saying that they don't know what they're doing would mean that they wouldn't even get anywhere on the computer...They must know SOMETHING about what they're doing, even if they're not computer geniuses. Most people at least know some computer basics, it's not like people are idiots who don't know how to do anything. So they DO know what they're doing with computers, even if some people are slightly computer illiterate. You should be more specific, if people didn't know what they were doing on a computer, they probably wouldn't have one. In fact, part of the main reason I can afford a customized $12,000 Toshiba P500 computer is BECAUSE I know what I'm doing on a computer, I wouldn't have received more scholarship money to get it if I didn't know what I was doing. And again, those are people you know personally, a small percent of billions of the U.S. population, so your assumption is no less general than mine.

Anyone that can afford a computer probably does own a computer. Haven't you ever seen TV ads for websites? That's because most people can access the internet in some way. Plus, most people that own computers have PCs. These people can range from the very young to the very old, and saying that a majority of them even know what right-clicking is (I literally just had to explain this to my mom, and trust me, basically all of her friends are just like this, as well as my friend's parents and their friends and so on) is a vast overstatement.

Also, not everyone owns a $12,000 computer. They're making computers more and more accessible and affordable every day.

Again, you can't accurately say anything about the vast majority if you're only basing your experience on people you know. For all you know, the people are just a little behind where you live and they're an exception to how most people know their way around a computer in this day and age. Also, I'm not saying that everyone has a $1200 computer, I'm saying that I have it partly because of my knowledge of computers. What's ridiculous is how you keep referring to everyone who owns a PC as someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Just because all the people YOU know who own PC's aren't computer literate doesn't automatically make "most" people who use a PC that way. You couldn't possibly know enough people for an accurate representation of the country's population...Therefore, it's most people YOU know, not most people in general. Think about it, most professional computer programmers use PC's, we wouldn't have some of the advancements in computer technology we have today if "most" people who use PC's don't know about computers. You're making it sound like you're saying that only idiots who don't know the difference between a kilogram and a kilobyte use PC's, which is far from the truth.

From the perspective of a future professional PC technician/network administrator who's in college, the PC is the superior platform and the numbers speak for themselves:

Posted Image

A mere 6.5% in September. Psh.

Numbers mean shit. iPods are also the most popular MP3 players by far, but they aren't even close to being the best.

Anyway, I have a PC but I'd rather have a Mac. PC is buggy as hell, you can drive a Hummer through the holes in the Windows OS.

*Cough*You can. Now that Macs use Intel hardware, you can build a PC with compatible hardware and run Mac OS X on it. It's generally referred to as "Hackintosh". Google it if you're interested. :P

I also loled at how many people run XP in comparison to Vista. xD Windows fail. 7 looks quite good though.

THAT'S what this is about? I never said that, I just mentioned that Macs are more user-friendly and that PC's are better for more advanced programming and stuff...I never explicitly said that PC's are ONLY for people good with computers....I have no idea where you got that from what I said. As for your argument about national surveys, national surveys are still a lot larger than the number of people any one person could know to get a more accurate representation of the opinion of the entire nation, usually around several thousand or so.

What is the difference between a duck?

PC... Mac is overpriced (because it's part of some apple thing where apparently if you have a Mac you're cool so they can charge WAYY too much and still profit substantially like with their iPods) has little customization potential, and is really just a product for anyone who doesn't know what they're doing with a PC or doesn't wish to learn how.

ALSO Macs can have, and have had viruses, there is no such thing as an immune system on the internet so all of that Apple gush is a farce. Best thing is that Macs have little way of clearing said problems because there are few Mac compatible programs that deal with spyware and/or viruses.

Mac is a gimmick and is a decent product with far too much. I'll stick with my customized beast machine and enjoy "looking out my windows." You can buy a PC at $1000 that far out preforms a $4000+ Mac in EVERY SINGLE WAY. Oh and their fancy 32" $4000 monitors??? I just hook up my HDTV to my PC and use it as a monitor, works just fine.
