NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

PLOT:
The story of NiGHTS revolves around two children, named Will and Helen, and their journey through the magical Dream Realm. Each of them has problems with their life. Will is a great soccor player, but is also a ballhog who rarely spends time with his father. Helen used to love playing the violin with her mother, but now is too busy with her friends.

As the two sleep, their dreams become nightmares as friends and family alike become hideous shadow beings. Only an odd, glowing light saves them from the terrible creatures.

CONCEPT:
The object of NiGHTS is to fly around and collect the lost Ideya of the children. The Ideya are what give people from the real world, Visitors, the ability to dream instead of have nightmares. All the while you are searching for the Ideya, you will be preforming aerial acrobatics, flying through rings, saving Nightopians, and even having an interesting boss battle or two.

While simple, the gameplay of the NiGHTS series is every bit as amazing as it formerly was in its original title, and is certain to keep your attention with the various level objectives and puzzles.

GRAPHICS
CINAMATIC: A beautiful sight to see, especially given that this game was somewhat early into the Wii's life, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams is a lush, colorful canvas painted by a master artist. I would say that this is the most amazing game I've ever seen, and this is shown in the cinamatic scenes that, while far and few, more than amaze.

IN-GAME: The in-game graphics are almost as amazing as the cinamatic graphics, a feat made all the more amazing by the fact that, graphically speaking, the Wii is often considered the worst of the three next-gen systems. Ranging from colorful and vibrant to dark and subdued, you may find yourself putting down the controller just to stare at the beauty around you.

SOUND:
SOUND EFFECTS: From the splashing of the water to the explosions of NiGHTS' rocket form, the sound effects are excellent, most sounding very realistic, and those that aren't sounding better.

MUSIC: My favorite part of this game, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams sounds every bit as beautiful as it looks. From the quiet, peaceful music of the forest stage to the epic, catchy tunes of the boss fights, few I know are disappointed with the soundtrack. My personal favorite song, aside from the main theme, is Delight City, played in the mission to defeat all of the Nightmarens attacking Neon City.

VOICEACTING:
Though Game Informer once said that the voice actors are all uninterested in the story, I disagree. Though he voices do at times seem rather dull, there is no real problem with them aside from this.

GAMEPLAY:
CONTROLS: Simple and easy, one of the best things about NiGHTS is the fact that you can use multiple controller types until you find your prefered gameplay style. I prefer the classic controller. The controls are tight and responsive.

CAMERA: Due to this game being on a preset path, you will rarely, if ever find any problems with the camera. If the camera needs to face a certain direction, you'll see what you need to see.

BOSSES: Interesting and entertaining, each boss is fought twice, and no two bosses or boss fights are exactly the same. The only annoying boss fight I had was against the Cat Witch, which is ironic as her boss fights takes place on my favorite level.

FINAL SCORING:

GRAPHICS: C= 10/10 IG= 10/10
SOUND: 10/10
GAMEPLAY: 8/10
REPLAYABILITY: 9/10
ENTERTAINMENT: 8.5/10
OVERALL: 9.75/10

My favorite game for the Nintendo Wii, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams is a welcome return to the world of who could almost be considered Sega's second mascot. Poetry down to the last drop, this is a game that no Wii collection could be complete without.

Thank god I'm not the only one. I still find it odd that my favorite boss is on my least favorite stage, and my favorite stage is where my least favorite boss resides! But that aside, thanks to all of you for the compliments on my review.
