William looked directly at Sierra and tapped the side of his helmet. "I too have tracking capabilities on the electromagnetic and to some level the seismic spectrum. With the potential of possibly breaking into the wireless network, elevating my privileges to administrator level. It's how I was able to drop my virus in back in 2109. Of course I have no virus to use.." It looked like both versions of Tails had a tendency to drone on when they were on a roll. "But I could potentially issue a system-wide shutdown or maintenance command for the robots given some time to study the topology when I get in. It'd probably allow me to write a new virus." He then looked back at the other Tails. "What do you think?" I'm tempted to call you Short-Round he thought. |

"That's... actually pretty cool," Tails breathed, blinking in surprise. "I don't know how compatible you'll be with this dimension's technology, but I guess it'd be worth a shot." Sally hesitated ever so slightly, mulling over her options. She really didn't want to break up the group, but sabotaging even one of the warehouses would help out a great deal, especially if any of them contained repair materials for the shipyards. In addition, this was Johnny Thorn who was making the suggestion. So far, he gave the impression of a bumbler. He could barely keep awake during the briefing and he seemed to have odd tendencies, speaking to himself and acting as though there was another person with him other than himself. It was strange, but he did sign up for the job, so she had to assume that he was adequately trained for the task. He also made an excellent suggestion. It would be best not to restrict him from his desire to help... but he would still need a short leash. "Very well," Sally sighed, relenting to Johnny. "I'll let you hit one warehouse. This one here," she continued, indicating the warehouse nearest to the southern Servicing Node, "is close to where I would like the mission to start at. You could do what you can in there, but as soon as you're able, I'll need you go rejoin the team as soon as you're able. "I'll let you go on one condition: you can't go alone. I would like a volunteer from one of you to go with Johnny and see what can be done about sabotaging the warehouse materials." ((Storyteller's Note: Whoever volunteers first is Johnny's partner for the brief excursion into the warehouse. If no one volunteers, then I will partner Johnny up with one of the NPCs, however I would prefer that one of the players volunteer.)) Edited by Talancir D'Landior, May 28 2010, 10:37 PM.

Nail discreetly rolled his eyes at the mention of attacking these random warehouses. Who cared about them? It wasn't like they were being paid extra for destroying additional targets. Nail wanted to focus strictly on what he was paid to do, and nothing more. "I'll stick to sniping, thank you." Nail forced himself to speak politely. "I think I'll do a lot more good up there on the node." He hoped the briefing would come to an end soon. Nail wanted to get down to his work. Thinking about it...how long ago had it been when he'd originally arrived for the briefing back in the city? It had only been this moring, but it felt like months had passed since then. |

After listening to the exchance between Johnny and their leader, Timothy raised a fist to his mouth and gave a thoughtful 'hmm' as he considered the task. "The storehouses might be useless without the docking nodes," he said after a few moments, his eyes not leaving the map once, "But the fact is, whatever's in them will still be there for future exploitation. Why leave supplies and equipment behind for the enemy to make use of if we can make their lives just that little bit harder by denying them resources?" His gaze rose over the rim of his glasses as he added, "I'll go with him; I know a few tricks that may be of some use. That is, of course, unless you foresee a requirement for paranormal expertise within the time it takes us to complete the task." The last sentence was delivered with a touch of dry humour; it was a rhetorical statement in itself really. It's not like anyone's going to need my head that desperately anyway, he thought, This place is a ghost town in a completely non-literal sense. At least, I think it is. Though, there's no corpses about, and as far as I can tell, there's no ley line activity nearby, so we ought to be safe... He'd been wrong about that sort of thing before though. What was it that his grandfather always used to say? "Don't be presumptuous, Tim! Never EVER be presumptuous! The supernatural is unpredictable; that's why it's called the 'supernatural', because it's more than natural, too strange to be limited by logic and reason. If you go off thinking you know exactly how ghosts and ghouls work, you're gonna find yourself in a world of trouble, my boy." I'm not being presumptuous, Grandad, he said to the shadow of his memory, I'm just saying it's unlikely, that's all. The thought made him feel a little better about his judgement. |

Audio Aid: Blue Man Group - The Current (Live from Austin) Sally felt some slight relief when Timothy volunteered himself. "Thank you, Ulysses. You two remember to contact me over the comms when you need guidance. I'll be checking in every few minutes to make sure you're alright." - It got progressively darker as they moved through the ruins of Old Megaopolis. It was due in part from the setting sun, as much as it was from the noxious, billowing clouds coughed up from factories and unrecoverable buildings made to smolder. Robotnik was doing his damnedest to make sure that his recovering city would be made to be completely opaque and intraversible. Such as it was, the assembled group of Freedom Fighters, Chaotix, and mercenaries could only make out dim outlined of the Egg Fleet docked overhead. The towering spires that made up the Dockyard docking pylons stretched up into the low cloud cover, as though they were made to hold up the sky. The main road into the area was unguarded, and they zoomed in low over the ground. Lightpoles were stationed at intervals, flanking the avenue. It became apparent as they approached the Dockyard area, that many buildings were still in a state of disrepair, and whole sections of lighting were out. The large gaps in the powergrid forced the Egg Fleet to push out patrols, but the insertion team were able to avoid detection. The southwestern servicing node and the western logistics warehouse were connected up to the third floor by a partition bridging the seventy three foot distance between the two buildings. From the fourth floor up, they were separate buildings. As the team approached, it became apparent that the warehouse wasn't completely repaired. A portion of the southern section was destroyed, and had collapsed into the servicing node, ripping open the corner of the servicing node at the second floor. Steel and reinforced concrete hung, splintered. Sally motioned with her hand at the saucer pod next to them. "Sentries, perimeter check." In response, Espio and Charmy jumped inside and disappeared into the gloom. Presently, they reappeared, and gave the thumbs up to Sally. "No movement in sight," Espio stated. "Good, thank you," Sally said briskly. "Tails, let's set this down." Inside the servicing node, there was just enough room to set the saucer down, out of any ambient light from outside. Just inside the landing area, a flight of stairs went up to the third floor. Around the wall next to them, a hallway stretched to the east. Though the servicing node was in better condition, many of the walls still had cracks and missing portions in its facade. The lighting system was also not completely repaired. Lights were strung through the halls, but many of them were broken or not on to begin with. The other few working lights flickered dimly, bathing the contours of the walls with a sickly yellowish orange. To the west, the collapsed section of the warehouse was open to the air. There was a moderately steep slope of broken rubble which lead down to the first floor of the warehouse; specifically, it led to what looked like a room with computer terminals inside. Sally dismounted the saucer pod. Nearby, the Chaotix's saucer pod hovered close enough to let the mercenaries onboard get off without too much difficulty. Sonic swapped seats, jumping onto the Chaotix's saucer pod. "Try not to have too much fun without me, guys," Sonic quipped. "I might get jealous." Sally looked up from the straps she was loosening from around the explosives, and scoffed, smirking. "Try not to get caught up doing something other than waiting for action out there, Sonic. Serious business time, remember?" "Yeah, I remember," Sonic said dismissively. "Good luck," Sally added. As the Chaotix's saucer pod, Tails, and Dulcy flew away to the east, Sally shouldered one of the backpacks. "Alright boys. Take up a backpack and let's get moving. Ulysses, Johnny, you could tag along to find a better route into the warehouse, or you could take that slope down. Who wants to lead out first?" ((Storyteller's Note: Picture is for player reference only. None of the characters know the interior layout of the buildings. There are five more backpacks that need to be carried. Tux and TUC, if you take the slope down, don't take a backpack. Whoever leads out first, feel free to take initiative and lead on to wherever. Two choices at the moment in time; up the stairs, or down the corridor. Special thanks to Avii for coloring the map for me.))

The human raises his right hand, slowly bringing it down: "I'll take a crack at this." He has had some leadership skills in his past missions, though it was usually himself being saved for any given moment he were to make a mistake. It would be different otherwise had he focused sorely at the task at hand; no matter what would happen, he ends up getting the job done. "We'll rendezvous with you guys, as quick as possible," he tells Sally, walking over to Ulysses, nodding to him. "Thanks, by the way. Lord knows I may do something stupid," he whispers the following to the fox, looking away for the moment and hanging his head down, eyes shut, calmly breathing to soothe his tension as much as possible. There, he attempts to have a quick and discreet conversation with The Spirit within. If anything were to go wrong....-if- anything...promise me you'll wake me up out of any hesitation or trance and try to get me and Ulysses back to the others. You will do fine. Thorn exhales, uncertain of His words but willing to trust His instinct. Turning back to the fox and looking over the area as best as he could, he asks: "Let's see, Sally did mention a slope heading to the warehouse," he quickly glances to the array of backpacks and back to the fox, "...ehh, probably best not to carry extra luggage down there, just for safety and stuff. Quick and easy to get to, but that's taking the risk of what could be down there. Maybe there's another way, with less or none of those machines in the way? Could be a bit longer, or could gets us there just as fast as the slope." The human inhales and exhales slowly, placing his thumbs underneath his fingers from each hand, "throttling" to crack and relieve a tiny portion of tension. "What do you think? Down the slope, or let's kick in some Espionage?" he turns to Ulysses, performing Jazz Hands at Espionage. |

As the human decided against taking a backpack, Timothy gave a short chuckle to himself. If there was anything useful in them anyway chances are he'd have it in his satchel already. It paid to come prepared. Although, there was only so much one could plan ahead for, nigh-infinite packing space aside. For example, they might be in trouble if they turned the corner and wound up in, say, Arctic climates. An unlikely occurrence, but nevertheless, it illustrated the point. "What do you think?" his partner asked, "Down the slope, or let's kick in some espionage?" Timothy folded his arms and, closing his eyes in thought, considered the options. "It would be faster and easier to just take the direct route down the slope," he said, "especially seeing as we already know where it goes and how..." He hesitated as he remembered what it was they were up against, "But I'd like to not be exposed to whatever's marching around out there. Stealth is safety, more or less." The map they had just been looking over hovered in his mind as clear as day. If they were where he though they were in relation to the map, there was most likely a way they could minimize exposure to any patrol outside by navigating through the building and taking a back door or something. Besides, there were more places to hide and take cover behind inside. Speaking of which... "Say, what do you have in terms of weapons?" Timothy asked with a sidelong glance, "Just in case things go, you know, pear-shaped." |

"Hm? Ah! Weapons...um, let's see," the human scratches his head, looking to the ground, snapping his fingers, "well, let's just say it's an omni-purpose weapon. Could change into four to five different versions of the set weapons of my choosing...maybe I should have asked for a nunchaku version, but the tri-staff is just the same. If that fails, I've twin pistols that can do some decent damage. I just need to keep raining bullets down on these robots, if they're -that- tough." Looking over to the slope, Thorn notices that the slope just extends along the side of the warehouse, a smooth pathway dimly shown at the bottom of it. A sudden step would cause one or the other to collide against the wall and that would compromise them. Nodding and smirking, he looks to Ulysses and gently places his left hand aboard the fox's right shoulder, discreetly pointing towards another quick way downward. "...Oh yeah, there's...a small path just on that side of this slope. No lights, no patrols for the moment, heck, they should be all at the front anyway. If we can climb our way down over there instead of just sliding, we can hit the pathway without crashing into that huge wall. We just have to be quick once we're done." Breathing largely and exhaling in the same manner, he continues: "...Sooo, what are you carrying in case things go to hell? And feel free to take a moment before we go down there." |

Sierra picked up one of the packs and hooked it over her broom, carrying the whole piece over her shoulder like a bindle. The dilapidated servicing node screamed all kinds of inspiring messages- "turn back now," "run away," and "you are about to die," most notably- but Erra simply shrugged and flicked an ear. The place was, ironically, deathly quiet and unsettlingly still, like a painting of a graveyard. Not even cockroaches or rats scurried around in the dark, and the dhole had to wonder why anyone had bothered to put lights up in the first place. But, she couldn't dwell on such useless questions. "I'm ready when you guys are," she spoke up, taking a few steps forward all the while. The northern-most, collapsed wall became an expansive overlook to the rest of the servicing node. The small amount of light, flickering as it were, was almost no help, casting confusing shadows more than illuminating the core of the building. "It looks like this floor is split; the only way across is going up and over or down and around." "And, that looks like a good way up," she continued, backing away from the ledge and pointing to the stairwell. |

William watched the dhole inch towards the stairwell. He raised his sidearm and checked the 93R's charge. "Perhaps I should take point," the cyborg fox said. The fox moved to overtake her and pointed the 93R at the stairs. He then did a 180 and started to slowly walk backwards, angling his weapon towards the air. TACTICAL PROTOCOL SET "Los Angeles Police Department: Special Weapons and Tactics" LOADED flashed on his HUD. He then sidestepped as he reached the next set of stairs, extended his left arm out for Sierra to see and made a thumbs up. "Prower here. Stairwell clear. Holding and preparing to enter and clear." he said on the comm. |

"Thank you," Nail whispered as he joined Cy by the stairs, P90 submachine gun at the ready. Once he too saw the area was clear, Nail craned his neck to try to see what was at the top of these stairs. He didn't know if this would take him closer to where he'd be sniping from, but going up would be a good way to begin the search for his destination. Anyway, Nail briefly thought about just running right up the stairs, but Cy obviously wanted to take point and Nail violating that would probably look rude. It annoyed Nail to wait on somebody else, but he didn't want to be sowing discord in his comrades. Could come back to bite him in the ass later during the mission. He turned to face the cyborg, and spoke in a neutral tone. "If we're all going up, could you go ahead please? I'd like to get to my sniper's nest as fast as possible." |

"Stacking up," the cyborg said in response. "Entering and clearing." He walked directly up to the entrance and threw himself against the wall next to it at its right. The fox then pointed his weapon at the entrance and walked directly inside at a diagonal line. 'Slicing the pie' as SWAT called it. He swiveled to the right. "Clear." |

A full knowledge of one's surroundings and available equipment was crucial to survival in dangerous situations. The more information one had about what they could and couldn't do in any given circumstance, the better their chances of an effective solution to the problem. 'Knowledge is power', so they say, and Timothy was a feverent follower of this school of thought. He listened to Thorn as he described (in questionable, but acceptable detail) his armaments and followed his outstreched gesture at the side-path below. So, we have to climb down to get to it? he wondered, Damn... That's an awfully long way down, or at least, longer than I'd like. "...Sooo, what are you carrying in case things go to hell?" the human asked, breaking his train of thought, "And feel free to take a moment before we go down there." "Oh, er, I've got a single-hand crossbow with armour-piercing bolts..." Tim said distractedly, pointing at the path and rushing into his next sentence, "That... That seems like the best way down, though I can't say such distances are... Er... Well, I haven't climbed that far before. Heck, I have trouble with tall fences." He bit his lip, then added, "But we can't let that get in the way." Swinging his satchel to his front, he opened the flap and rummaged around inside its extradimensional space. "Rope... rope... where'd I put it...?" |

((A quick note about the third floor. there's enough room for a landing which includes the elevators, but beyond that point, the building begins to taper inward toward the perimeter of the elevator. He felt distant, as he hadn't intervened, nor has he received much more then a simple fashioned follow-at-hand order. As soon the team advanced inside, the futuristic Miles take on the lead, with the fox/wolf close behind. Adrian situated still at the first floor, did no more then await a clearance that the rest could advance. "Clear!" Assume there's no point in wasting time doodling around downstairs. With that, the black canine walked straight upward to the second/third floor. Taken in position at the nearest possible advantageous station, close to one of the possible door/exits/window's available. His firearm at ease, concentrated, listening to orders, possible clanking footsteps that ain't friendly and most of all, the short seconds of silence. Surprisingly that is, after all he'd almost expected some sort challenge. Awaiting further commands, remaining silent as he dislikes communicating on a mission, unless the situation needs it.
