What is the difference between a duck?

This thread is dedicated to the first round match up between the competitors listed in the title. You will have 2 weeks to compete however a generous gap of 1 week is allowed for a non posting period... if either competitor takes longer than 1 week to make a reply then their characters fate is instantly handed to their opponent and/or the judges and they will be declared the loser.

Begin with posts of your characters regaining consciousness and realizing that they are back in their natural bodies and retain all memories from the cafeteria.

I hate falling unconscious over and over again...

At least this time Nail knew where he was going...the arena. He stood up on his platform...taking in the scenery. Just as promised...the entire arena floor was made up of platforms suspended over a bottomless pit.

A few platforms away, he saw Vanadium on his platform, still unconscious. Nail considered shooting him while he was down, although he had been told that fair play would be considered in deciding the victor at the end of the round, so he chose not to.

That doesn't seem right though. I mean...why would they care about fair play down here? Seems like the audience just wants blood and guts. Oh yeah...and what was all that business between the judges about, right before we got sent here? I wonder if it'll change things for the better or worse around here. Probably worse...

In any case, he pulled out his P90 and checked to make sure he had a full load. He did. This was about as ready as he was going to get.

Nail had to admit...he'd found it pretty easy to remain detached about his fate here while standing in that normal-looking cafe. Now that they were back out here though, he felt a twinge of fear about the whole proceedings. What the hell was down there if he fell?

No. I am not going to fall, so there is no need to consider that.

Right...best not to use his imagination too much. It would just make him scared and throw off his game. He jumped to another platform as he waited for Vanadium to get up, in case the judges were going to have them start falling straight from the start.

"uuhhh, my head is killing me, why?" Vanadium weakly questioned as he regained "consciousness", so to speak. "once again, logic is not this place's strong suit" he muttered to himself, he then noticed that something was awry.

He was no longer confined to the hell hole known as the cafeteria, rather he was standing on a stone platform. "perfect" he said softly, "my first victim." Unleashing his energy sabers in a over the top fashion, vanadium repeated the whirling motion he presented in the cafeteria.

Over the hum of the blades, he declared to his opponent . "Prepare yourself, for today, you meet your end!" Stopping the movement dead.

Nail rolled his eyes at what Vanadium said.

"Whatever," he said after landing on the next platform. He took aim with his P90. Figured the first thing he should do is try shooting different spots on his opponent and see what did the most damage.

So...he figured he would target the head first. That's what usually brought down most other folks, wasn't it? He let loose two carefully aimed shots towards his chrome dome.

"Typical" was all vanadium said, utilizing another rapid forearm whirl, his blade acted a a makeshift shield, deflecting the shots in tiny pops of sparks. He responded to the attack with one of his old favorites. After locking on target, a small, but deadly blast of plasma shot from his visor with a unique resonance toward his opponent.

Considering Nail had seen Vanadium perform his distance attack in the cafe, he wasn't surprised to see him using it now. So, he sidestepped to avoid it.

However, he wasn't ready for the homing properties of the blast, so he didn't move enough. The edge of the blast struck his side...causing him to gasp in pain. Fortunately his vest seemed to protect him from the brunt of it, so it wasn't that much damage.

By this point, his platform was starting to fall, so he jumped sideways to the next one, in order to keep Vanadium in sight as he moved to more solid ground.

So...I won't be able to just blindly fire at him. I'll need to attack him when he won't have time to block. I can think of a few times when he'll have to drop his guard.

The fox raised up his gun at Vanadium, but did not shoot. He seemed to be waiting to see what Vanadium would do first.

"I never knew those things could do that" Vanadium said after he witnessed his blasts homing effect. "I guess I never noticed, huh" Turning his attention back to Nail, something struck Vanadium as odd, Nail's gun was aimed at him, but he didn't fire. why isn't he firing? He must have something concocted in that organic brain of his, and I think I know what. Taking a chance, Vanadium performed a stunning leap, quickly closing the gap between him and his opponent, hoping his assumption would be proved right.

[When you said you were "locking on", that made me think it was a homing attack.]

As Nail watched Vanadium coil up to jump towards him, he squeezed down on the trigger...letting the recoil pull the gun up so Vanadium would jump into the bullets. In total, Nail'd let off seven shots.

But how far the bot could jump surprised him. They were getting very close together. One more jump like that and the robot would make it to the same platform as Nail. He definitely found himself getting nervous now. He hated close-range combat.

In any case, he put away his P90 for the moment, keeping his hands free.

He was proven right, Vanadium quickly disposed of 4 of the incoming projectiles but 3 had slipped by and almost compromised his armor. The smoking shells slowly freed themselves from the dents they created and fell to the floor with individual bings. Vanadium stared at them, then his dented armor, and finally, to Nail. "You, dented my armor" Vanadium said in a sinister tone, he hung his head and stood his position, allowing himself to be brought along by the falling platform.

He's letting himself fall into the abyss? Why? He had plenty of time to get off that platform. Speaking of which...

Nail turned around for a moment to jump to the platform behind him. The platform he was currently on was collapsing away anyway.

Surely this fight isn't over yet. He must have something up his sleeve I haven't seen yet. I'm not going to relax till the judges declare me the victor.

As he turned back around to face the spot where Vanadium's platform was, he reequipped his P90.

A long way down, Vanadium initiated his transformation sequence and blasted off at top speed toward the platform where Nail was standing, in an attempt to plow through it and plunge his opponent into the abyss.

That sounds like a...jet engine? And it's coming towards me!

Nail rushed to get off his current platform, but Vanadium hit it before he could make it all the way. He just managed to grab a handhold onto the next platform. Grunting...he let the P90 hang onto him by its shoulder strap, and scrambled up as quickly as he could, rising back up to his feet.

Close one there. I don't think I can keep doing that over and over again.

Vanadium transformed to robot mode and turned just in time to see nail back on his feet "pity, you're still here." Vanadium quickly charged and dispersed another plasma blast, then equiped his enegy sabers and rushed Nail with malicious intent.

Nail side-stepped out of the way to avoid the plasma blast. "That move is getting old, you know." He could feel himself breathing a bit harder now. Between getting hit and having to hustle up onto another platform, he did feel he'd used up some energy.

Pity he didn't stay in that jet mode. He'd have been an easy target.

In any case, Vanadium was rushing in for a close up attack. Nail, however, was having none of that. He jumped sideways onto the platform to the left, aiming his P90 as he leaped. One handed, he aimed the SMG at the bot and fired a quick three shot burst.

This wasn't meant to hit though. Mostly it was meant to make sure Vanadium had to keep his guard up so Nail could not be attacked while jumping.

"better make this count" Vanadium braced himself as he let the three bullets strike him dead on, he wanted to end this quickly, a few bullet holes would not stop that, he shot past the area Nail was a few moments previous, he did a quick step and made another rush toward him, energy sabers blazing.
