D: Posts: 651 Group: S Rank Knight Member #10,242 Joined: August 13, 2009	I didn't read all of the comments, so excuse me if my post is similar to someone else's, but I think he represents what everyone would rather have in Shadow. He's a tough, badass robot counterpart to Sonic. He does what Sonic does, basically, he's pretty freakin' scary, and he doesn't have any emo angst. He's a killing machine without a conscience. shrug In my opinion he's what I wish Shadow was. Cool. And he doesn't use guns which is like a +50 cool points in my book.

I live in the UK and as such, I used to buy the Fleetway Sonic The Comic and they had full previews of Sonic CD before it came out, as did most other major Sega publications at the time. A lack of public awareness you say? This was the next game to come out after Sonic 2 - there was HUGE hype about this game as it was meant to be the one game that convinced everyone to buy a Mega CD. And as we all know, public perception thanks to a couple of crappy reviews was that it was just Sonic 1 tweaked a bit with shiny stuff and thus the death of the expensive bolt-on product began.. So, why do I like the evil Metal Sonic? It's a matter of personal preference, as is usually the case with most people. But consider this: up to this point in Sonic history, Robotnik was just failing time and time and time again. The very first time you meet Metallix, he grabs Amy Rose and runs away before you can do anything about it. SHOCK HORROR something Robotnik made worked! He didn't sit there waiting for a round of applause, he came in, grabbed the pink one, and flew away - just an efficient killing machine doing its job - in this case, "recruiting" Amy to be used as live bait. Whether at this point Metallix was just a robot or had a sophisticated AI is open to debate and I'm of the opinion that before Robotnik whacks him and then rebuilds him, the metal copy was just a robot. Although I realise this isn't really answering the question of why I like Metallix... he's blatantly evil and a lot of people dig that in a character. I like evil, and when it's magnified by a world of fluffiness and general bouncy vibes, the cold metallic sheen of bodywork that stands out even against its brethren, the badniks, he just looks like the first truly evil character the series acquired. Couple that to the fact he's actually a decent likeness of Sonic and you already have the makings of an anti-Sonic, one that clearly worked. And of course, who doesn't like robots that are ahead of their time? If you compare this hedgehog to the metal one at the end of Sonic 2, the technological leaps and bounds are phenomenal. He can fly, he can use an electric field, he can kill and stuff... he's a simple machine designed for one purpose - to beat Sonic. So to summarise: Evil Robot Anti-Sonic IT'S A ROBOT SONIC FFS WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?? Although, there is that certain spark, that extra something, that makes me like the metal one that I just can't put my finger on. He's got character, he's not as soulless as some of the creations Sega have thrown at us over the years. And he's one of the few characters who's been genuinely developed over the years... Sonic runs, Tails builds shit, Knuckles found some of his kind, Amy grew a pair, Robotnik still fails, and Shadow got more a decent history before he was even thrown into SA2. Metal Sonic started off as a simple robot and has evolved into something more than that. And I think this is that extra something that I like... he's an old character with depth. Here endeth my rather long and boring dialogue on why Metallix is cool and stuff.

Plus he just looks cool, and the storylines that usually involve him in it are great. Metal Sonic is awesome, IMO. And the movie was great too.

Well, I envy Eggman to first create such a killing machine, while he can't take control of the situation. That's because someone is more evil, and doesn't allow to follow someone's order. He's independent and is the foremost best rival to Sonic since the series begun. Also, some stuff that's already been mentioned is why I like him as well. He's the badass character that stick out all others down a hatch.

I still can't use this. Posts: 6,546 Group: Former Monarchs Member #6,722 Joined: March 16, 2008	I'm going to play Devil's Advocate and say that my problem with Metal Sonic is that, in the games, he's been there for no other reason than just for show. In CD, his greatest achievements were kidnapping Amy and chasing Sonic before running into a wall. In the Rivals games, his role as a protagonist means he doesn't really pose as an active threat to anybody worthwhile. Heroes was the only game in which he was finally some semblance of threat, but that's only because he had to transform into the quintessential monster of the week, downplaying the appeal he should have as a suitable rival in his regular form while simultaneously making him look desperate and making his failure all the more inevitable. Really, for all of the marks of badassery that fans hand to him on a silver platter, Metal Sonic has not done shit to deserve it. Shadow, Silver, and even Amy Rose have landed a hit on Sonic. And yet, this android of ascending awesomeness, this morose mechanical monstrosity, this perversion of Sonic, this extension of the perpetual Sonic vs. Eggman battle and the nature vs. technology themes prevalent in this series, *hasn't even laid a scratch on the only* guy Eggman's ever ordered him to kill.** What the hell? Now, if you want to talk about Metal Sonic being awesome, check out the OAV. The battle between hedgehog and machine is undoubtedly the most awesome one-on-one battle that the Sonic series has ever showcased. If Metal Sonic acted like that in his game appearances, then I'd be all on-board this bandwagon. But as far as the games are concerned, he's really just as disposable as a catakiller.
