Microsoft banned from selling Word in U.S.

I just read this article about Microsoft having violated a patent owned by a Canadian company to help its word processor (Microsoft Word) in rendering XML documents. As such Microsoft Word cannot be sold in the United States or imported from another country. Of course, Microsoft plans to appeal the decisions - but that's just insane! Microsoft's main turf is the United States and being inable to sell word here is crazy.

I had to google it because I wasn't sure the first article was entirely accurate, but it appears to be the truth! So what do you think this means for Microsoft, Microsoft Word and possibly for i4i (the company MIcrosoft 'stole' from)?

Office 2007 sucks.
Office 2003 is superior.

This could be a serious set-back to my writing since I don't have word at the moment...At least some version will probably come standard in my new laptop when I get it...

I don't really believe microsoft stole. And with the money they are getting they could buy the rights to it 100 times over.

Also SOTI, 07 is superior to 03. You are probably like all these other people that just haven't gotten used to all the new features yet or been taught how to use them. That is why most people don't like it.

But Microsoft not being able to sell Microsoft Word? That will be a big problem since so many people in colleges need Word, and it is what is in most of the computer labs as well. I doubt they stole it at all.
I'm a gamer and always will be a gamer. If you don't believe me. I have 430 Video Games and 19 Consoles.

I doubt you could beat that unless you are a gamer as well! =P

So, let's see if you can outdo "The Jet Gamer"

No shock to me, Microsoft are lately pushing the borders of legality to try and brutalize their way about the market today. Sooner or later, they'll trip up somewhere then feel the effects badly...

Why bother with Microsoft Office anymore, when there's OpenOffice? Same thing basically built on open source technology, for free compared to paying about $150 a pop for Office licenses.

Woot for Sun Microsystems.

And ironic too, since that's the suite I use too.

Looks like I'll be able to update Gear Point soon after all...Before, I was just stuck with Wordpad, and I wasn't really going to update with such an underdeveloped word processor...

Dude, there are tons of alternatives to word... Like OpenOffice posted earlier.

Well MS has made a habit of stealing ideas and making them their own. :P Although I doubt they stole this, it's probably a patent shark, buying up patents and then finding out who violated them.
