Tetsu Katano the director of Sonic and the Black Night was in a VideoGamer interview.

He was asked...

What kind of things would you have done differently (in Sonic Unleashed)? Will we see the Werehog again?

He replied

For the improvements, I can’t think of anything right now off the top of my head. If I think of any ideas then Sonic Unleashed 2 will be the time for that, so I don’t really have an answer for that. But you will see the Werehog again. I like Secret Rings very much, but when it came to making this title [Sonic and the Black Knight] we chose to do something different. All the good things about Secret Rings belong to that specific game. So in the same way, unless we’re going to make Sonic Unleashed 2 you might not see him again. But if we are going to make it, you might see him again. It’s a possibility.

The Werehog first appeared in Sonic Unleashed, and you could as the Werehog

It looks like we will see more Sonic games and some more Werehog action from Sega.

It's been implied over and over again; I should just macro that post, actually. People stating "NO MATTER WHAT SEGA DOES EVERYONE WILL STILL HATE SONIC" when there's really no support at all for that notion, since other franchises seem to manage not failing just fine even if they failed before.

Actually, it wasn't this mysterious "Everyone" that you always seem to talk about. Just a certain part of the fan base, and haters. You know, the sort of people who say they will only be happy with Sonic if he has SA3 or a new 2D game that goes back to the original games. And we essentially had a few good 2D games that had similar gameplay to the old days in the Rush series and the Rivals series. And are they happy? No. Of course not.

Ya really, because all games sell whether or not they're any good. Sonic does well because 1) it's part of a long-standing franchise, and 2) it's hyped so much I wouldn't be surprised if the first alien race we contact feels it's more appropriate to fly the SEGA logo than the flag of a nation. The games themselves are only scarcely above average at best, and huge disappointments at worst. The console ones, anyway.

That's your opinion. Your opinion does not domintate everyone else. The only huge disappointment I can really think of is Sonic 06, and we all know that it was rushed. Besides, what do you really judge as failing? A bad game in your opinion? Or are you too busy playing the games as "Sonic's last hope" to realise that?

I'm saying that the Sonic fanbase and critics aren't evil and picking on Sonic and this implication I'm seeing everywhere that poor ol' Sonic Team will just keep gettin' hate no matter what it does is getting quite obnoxious. No, there will not be a perfect Sonic game, but it's totally plausible that one comes about that won't be disliked by everyone who isn't already a fan, and most who are. Yes, hyperbole, but you get the point. People have better things to do than to discriminate against a game franchise.

Yup, that's exactly why IGN have a completely contradictary article up. It says that the 360 version of Unleashed is better than any of the others, when it scored lower than the Wii version. Try to call that unbiased. If you look around, I think it's pretty darn true. Nobody's evil. But many are unfairly biased.

Actually I wouldn't mind seeing the werehog again. I don't know how they'd write it in but....

If Sega plans to they should change a few things. (Just so you know I have the Wii version.)

Make the dash work better.

Make the platforming parts better. If I were to press B as soon as the game tells me to, then Sonic would be on the verge of no death by falling.

The fighting parts were actually ok. The werehog parts were a nice break but the ratio was too different; Something like 4 werehog levels for every 1 normal Sonic level. If that ratio were to be switched and the platforing parts tweaked then a Sonic Unleashed seaquel could be one of the best Sonic games ever.

Get lost in the... wait do I HAVE to change it?! D:
I'd rather see the Werehog completely gone. The Werehog levels totally ruined the game for me, while the day levels were absolutely gorgeous and just fun to play. If they make a Sonic Unleashed 2, it better have a LOT less Werehog levels, and a LOT more Sonic levels.
dusk. updates sundays and thursdays.

The werehog was far from a failure, just because you personally like the way something plays doesnt make it a failure.

Like I stated before the werehog could do with an upgrade to improve its gameplay, but I would be more than happy to see it return in a sequal.

Werehog needs gameplay improvements, control improvements and it needs to be less of a gimmick and more of a proper gameplay element. And the levels need more balance to them. Stop throwing enemies about 5 times more powerful than you're capable of managing at the time. And there needs to be more extra lives for the Werehog levels if they put it on Wii again.

Too many things to hope for, I say just scrap the whole werehog theory. It's pointless to go out and battle 5 big guys that are "normal" enemies that end up being TOUGHER than a regular boss. That's fail itself.

I was fine during battles on the Wii/PS2 version, I think I died only twice during a battle, as long as you got enough red force and used your sheild, you would be fine.

For the love of god, i hope they don't bring back the Werehog, that part of Unleashed runied the game for me. The Werehog levels we're absolutley boring, and too long. it's a shame too, because the Hedgehog levels we're amazing.

I would like it to come back but, i hope they improve it, I am happy for Sega that hey are actually improving something instead of taking it out because fans whine about it.

Christmas is back again

Well obvious reasons there are people who cherished and hated him. I'm more like the neutral of his appearance.
Sure I'm late on this, as I never come into a debate before I post randomly at the finish line.

Well anyway back to the thread. Let's see if they can improve camera, as sometimes when your in mid-air, the camera shifted and all the sudden I was doomed to fall down. Sometimes it's not a death wish, but more like a nuisance. So, I don't know fully controllable camera would be for the best.
Second, like Bliz mentioned way back in this thread. Make him faster, or at least considerable. Yet, I don't see the fans accept such morality anyway. They mock him down into the mud, while some true fans who accept most anything Sonic Team throws at us, won't bother to find reasons why we should dislike that he ain't as fast. (Like at the day-stages).
Third, I wonder how, since also at the same post, Bliz mentioned something on how he could become the werewolf without breaking the planet apart. Frankly I don't see how that may work. But, then again, if they use it like once more, it become overused and dull. So a new idea have to be made.

So, I don't mind seeing him in return, but how would the new ideal concept become. Change locations perhaps. Heh! XD

I liked the werehog. I found him quite easy to manipulate and control, and if you held down a trigger he ran at a decent pace. Now be grateful they're not thinking about bringing back Sonic Heroes. [shudders at the thoughts]

Um, Sonic never transformed into the Werehog because the planet was ripped apart, he transformed into the werehog when Eggman nuterlised the Chaos Emeralds.

Why? It's all a matter of opinion.

IMO, Heroes > Unleashed

There could be plenty new teams as well.
