Tetsu Katano the director of Sonic and the Black Night was in a VideoGamer interview.

He was asked...

What kind of things would you have done differently (in Sonic Unleashed)? Will we see the Werehog again?

He replied

For the improvements, I can’t think of anything right now off the top of my head. If I think of any ideas then Sonic Unleashed 2 will be the time for that, so I don’t really have an answer for that. But you will see the Werehog again. I like Secret Rings very much, but when it came to making this title [Sonic and the Black Knight] we chose to do something different. All the good things about Secret Rings belong to that specific game. So in the same way, unless we’re going to make Sonic Unleashed 2 you might not see him again. But if we are going to make it, you might see him again. It’s a possibility.

The Werehog first appeared in Sonic Unleashed, and you could as the Werehog

It looks like we will see more Sonic games and some more Werehog action from Sega.

I still can't use this.

This story is ridiculously old, but regardless it doesn't really prove anything. Mr. Katano states at the end that he doesn't know (or perhaps can't tell us) where in the hell this series is going next or if the Werehog will return; "It's a possibility," he says.

Regardless, I wouldn't mind the Werehog coming back so long as they made him faster to quell the haters' dissent. xD I even have a few ideas on how it could be done without blasting the world into bits again.

Ya, I liked the Werehog too. It was a refreshing break from all the high speed Sonic levels.

Maybe if the Werehog played a bit more like Sonic and the Black Knight.

I object to your claims
I don't mind the Werehog much. Sure he was slow, but it wasn't like you were traveling at molasses speed. He controlled pretty well, actually-the only problems I had were trying to grab ledges (I figured it out in due time) and trying to leap across chasms that require a running start when there's not much space to run.

What I think is the deal with at least some of the haters, is that they judge the Werehog as a part of a Sonic game. Now, do I think he belongs in a Sonic game? Not really. But I still enjoyed playing as the Werehog. Why? Because I treated Unleashed not just as a Sonic game, but as a game in general. I think, that if more people treated the Sonic games as, well, games, then things might be better for the fandom. Sonic doesn't have to be just about speed, after all.

The werehog making a comeback. Well I wasn't a big fan of the werehog when I first played the first Sonic Unleashed he was slow but more powerful, but the more times I played Sonic Unleashed I thought the werehog was pretty cool and it was something different.

How much do you want?

And I wouldn't mind if the Werehog came back. Sega really only has to fix a few things. (speed and level designs)

My main issue witht the werehog was there was too much. I say have no more then 1/3 the amount of werehog levels in the original and 5 times as much regular sonic. If they do make a new one then I'd probably buy it.

I will agree they should have made it more like sonic and the black knight, but the game play was great. people need a break from the regular run, jump, dash, run, jump, beat robotnick, run some more feel of the regular sonic. and the game was balanced between fighting with Werehog and traditional sonic. I say they just need to do some control edits for werehog stages, usung L and R was...different, but got a little annoying after a while.
When people tell me to get a life, I tell them "I'm a gamer, I have many lives."

Hrm. This is rather old and may trigger debates but since you brought it up, I just gotta ask, why bring the Werehog back? It was a failure with critics and just take a wild guess how the critics, especially-ahem-IGN, would react if Sega suddenly announces the Werehog returns. I don't think Katano should even consider bringing him back.

As for me and the Werehog, I thought it was a failure. I found the gameplay too basic and repetitive, some enemies are overpowered, bad camera, dashing was too uncontrollable, and a rather weird problem I found is that you have to hold the button when grabbing/climbing onto stuff unlike let's say Mario where you just go to it and he'll grab on for you with no button required to keep him on. SO-YEAH-NO THANKS.

What Sonic Team says- "Our quality will improve over time"

What Sonic Team does- "Bring back the werehog, quality does not improve one bit"

Of course, we should know this by now after the last few games that came out (SatBK and SU).
