I fail at RP'ing

Several reasons I can never seem to find a roleplay about something I like- and when I make one, nobody comes in.. When I DO manage to get in an RP, its fine until I log on the next day discovering they have kicked me out because I "didn't RP long enough". Most RP's I dunno what to post, unless its a story, not just a causual RP. And sometimes I don't just want to RP as my fan character, especially since shes not finished. I'd like to roleplay but I dunno what to do

If you have a character you don't want to RP as because it's not complete, then use one that is. If that's your only character then try finishing it first. Then all you need is to look for a consistent RP. One that shows promise and won't die too soon. And it's not, post once today then again tomorrow. As long as you're online, you must try to keep track of it. That doesn't mean allow people to go 20 pages ahead of you overnight. You have the right to request that they don't abandon you unfairly, but if you go missing for a few days or you know that they'll be very active yet ignore the RP for hours then you really can't blame them for going ahead. As for keeping an RP of yours alive, I suggest that before starting, make sure it's an attractive RP that will reel plenty of RPers into playing and if possible try to find one or two people beforehand that are willing to join. You can also keep a link to your RP in your sig to advertise.

Making a RP is just the first step. Having it draw out for a much longer session is harder. Actually finishing it, from start to climax to end, would be a miracle. People RPing as though they're IMing, are idiots and arses for leave you behind and kick you out only after hours. Respect the time zone difference of other participating RPers. You'd be pissed if you'd get left behind, so don't FORCE that on other people. I don't really know what to do with casual RPing. I guess it's like... thinking trying to... exercise your character's personality development. Like how fighting RPs can help you along with how your fancharacter fights; though sticking to a style doesn't seem to stick, let alone understand one. I don't know. sigh Somethings just... take time to develop. I've developed mine in 5 years, which is quite long... Trying to RP like how you read text in a book could help. In reality my advice won't help, but I guess I should leave with something: Play around... who'll find that sweet spot. (very helpful huh... facepalms at self)

None of mine really do fit in anyway. But there is Saffire, who also doesn't fit in with most fan charries, as usual. Saff is a shapeshifter.

Create a new character that could fit in. Heck, I have had several of those, but still I bother to make a voluntarily shot at using my favourite characters in almost any RP. Of course at most times, it doesn't sound nice at all. A mere few would be different. No names needed. Now to find a RP. Have you asked around for a private one. That's usual the only one I bother. No rush, or at least considerable. Create something. Not to big, and not to small and add something new to take interest from members. Frankly, it's hard like hell around here. But some manages. Come up with a creative title and then work on a well designed story or whatever and hope it will benefit all your work.

Try and create a role-play about a popular subject. As burningleo pointed out, you like Pokemon. That would make a good rp. If you want people to come in, you should make it interesting and unique. For example, in a Pokemon RP, you could have a tournament going on, where one of the combatants is a member of an evil organization. This can be used to create suspense. It also helps to make the overall plot interesting. When I DO manage to get in an RP, its fine until I log on the next day discovering they have kicked me out because I "didn't RP long enough". I would suggest not RPing with those people again. They're just being unfair. You should not feel stressed in having to keep up with an RP. Most RP's I dunno what to post, unless its a story, not just a causual RP. Think about how your character would act. Is she a hothead who snaps everytime someone looks at her the wrong way? Or does she have a much calmer matter? Use your character's personality to figure out what her actions would be. And sometimes I don't just want to RP as my fan character, especially since shes not finished. You don't have to RP as a fan character. You could always use an offical one you like. And even if your character's not finished, I've discovered that an Rp is helpful in developing one. People will ask questions regarding your character for example, and whatever answers you give might help you build upon her. Hope that helps somewhat! Edited by HollyYoshi, Jul 28 2009, 06:26 PM.

I've never done one on this forum, I gave up on the forum before the last because if i tried to get in one they wouldn't let me play :O Blaire, that is good advice.. DragonFlame: creating a character isn't that easy. (I can never play as a legendary pokemon either, since people think its god-modding)

If it fails, it fails. There's no use getting upset over it. You can just try again! Have confidence in yourself and just put something out there! Besides, I think you'll find the people here are a lot less judgemental and rude.

My character doesn't exactly fit into Sonic-themed roleplays. (Hell, most roleplays on most forums.) Doesn't stop me from throwing him in there. Best way to get over that hurdle is to at first just bite the bullet and bring him/her in, and later on just embrace the differences. Second, 'TC is right, throwing an "unfinished" character into a role play also will help you with developing it, so long as you've got the solid foundation of concept, personality and appearance laid. Once again, my character is living proof, and still constantly being tweaked. ...Yeah, as for getting into a roleplay... talk to people about it. Bounce ideas off a few people if need be, see what strikes people's interest.
	Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk.
