Hydrocity Act 2
|
UK, July 27, 2009 - The global release of a movie store for Nintendo's Wii is on the cards, according to comments from Lionsgate's president of digital media Curt Mavis. "I imagine the Wii's movie store will launch worldwide soon" Mavis told Casualgaming.biz (thanks, Joystiq), before going on to outline the potential of such a service; "Our horror and action movies are ideal for the Xbox and PlayStation's hardcore audience," he said "while the broader audience of the Wii are likely to enjoy our more mass-market properties." A film streaming service is already available for the Wii in Japan, while rumours have been circulating that Netflix could facilitate such a service in the States. |

My immediate thought is... "Why didn't they just put a DVD player in the Wii?" |

I don't think they have a DVD player in the Wii. |

It's only the most bought gaming system in the history of history... I had 8 that all broke because they were poorly made.. but yes we know. Nintendo is always behind on everything.. and a similar question can be asked about the Wii... Why didn't it come with a built in ethernet port??? and it has the same answer as to why they're making this store without having proper DVD playability out of the box... TO MILK THEIR USERS OUT OF MONEY... you wanna know why that console is so cheap, it lures people in by looking cute and being cheap, but to enjoy it you HAVE to buy tons of accessories... or have friends with tons of accessories. The same question and answers surrounding the DSi and it's "amazing" online store that isn't worth the extra cost and loss of a GBA port. It was a **Bleep** having to buy the Ethernet add-on for it while I had it because I only had an iffy connection from time to time from an off-site NETGEAR connection. |

What's wrong with Wi-fi? I think it's convenient that it at least can connect to a local Wi-fi connection without the need for any cords or anything! |

I have to use a cord for my Wii's Wi-Fi. The reason for that is because I got my Wii at the original release in america and some of them have trouble with wireless internet or something. I'm not entirely sure if that's true but it's what my cousin told me. |

There's nothing wrong with wi-fi but wired is generally better. I wouldn't be talking about why it's cheap and pointing it out because the 360 is exactly the same way(why couldn't they have included a cheap wifi in the system instead of charging $100 for an adapter) especially the cheap(and also crappy) arcade model with nothing built in. I guess you could say the exact same thing about the 360 TO MILK THEIR USERS OUT OF MONEY. Although with the 360 your argument is you don't need to buy all of those accessories so why would you need to buy tons of accessories with the Wii? |

Oh geez, this again. The 360 came out before Wi-Fi became seriously widespread, so that's why it didn't have the capability built-in. (I think wired connectivity is more reliable, but not an option the way things are set up.) Also. The 360 accessories expand your options, but one can still play 360 games without them. NOT SO THE WII. Most Wii games focus on the casual/party gaming crowd (not that that's bad), usually meaning unless all the players own Wiis, the host ought have four Wii-motes. Most Wii games also ask for Nunchuks, as well, and I can go on. (I don't want to get started on the Balance Board.) All Microsoft asks (other than the fee for LIVE Gold) is for you to have the thing connected to the internet, really. Of course, this is careening off-topic, but yeah, the could've at least thrown in a DVD player on the Wii, God knows they have access to the tech... don't they? |
| Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk. | |

Um no it wasn't, Wi-Fi was quite popular around 2005 already, you're saying within only one year Wi-Fi exploded and was so much more widespread? Ridiculous. Also you could say the same thing about the accessories expanding your options on the wii, the Wii doesn't exactly need four Wii-motes/peripherals to be enjoyed and Nintendo does not ask/require anything(which is less than requiring you to pay for online) after you buy your Wii. In fact you could say the same thing about the 360 being a party system with having tons of 4 player split screen games so you're just making a double standard. It's ok for Microsoft to sell a bare bones system that requires overpriced accessories to get the full experience but somehow with Nintendo it's not ok and much more than expanding your options, it's necessary? If you can't see how ridiculous that argument is then whatever... As for the DVD player, it seems to me that it could read it. Wouldn't it just need a firmware update to play them? I'm pretty sure I've read that hackers have hacked Wiis and made them able to play DVDs. |
