First off, huge props to linking to Sega-16. Love that site.

Second wow. I never knew any of that. Although I skimmed through it mainly (Wall of text, to lazy) it's interesting.

I still can't use this.

The MJ/Sonic 3 thing has been noted and theorized on for years, and nothing has ever come out of it. But it's nice to believe ol' MJ did work on it, especially when you listen to the first boss track in the game. The signs are uncanny.

I do agree with that, but doesn't it seem that Sega was trying to get some attention? Perhaps MJ didn't write anything for Sonic 3, instead he helped get the word out as to the game's opening. At the time, MJ was slowly going downhill in fame; a rumor about him writing music for the Sega would bring new attention to Sega's new game, Sonic 3 and MJ.

I'm sorry if this all doesn't make sense, what I'm trying to say is:

Perhaps this was all set up to get the word out that Sega was producing another game.

Why would Sega want someone who was being accused of child molestation of all people to announce their game for them when they had the money and fame to simply do it themselves?

If you read the whole thing, you would know that towards the finishing (I know, not the best grammar) of the game ,MJ was accused of child molestation. So, they wouldn't know about it when they started producing Sonic 3.

If I'm correct in regards to how game development works, then music is handled in post-production which means Michael Jackson would've been called in near the end of development anyways.

Regardless of how long he knew about it or how long he was on board, if he even was, then my question still stands: Why would a production company use a second party to announce their own game instead of merely doing it themselves?

xP That's still no reason why Sega themselves couldn't say that they had Jackson on board doing the BGMs. If anything, they would have had to pay Jackson even more depending on how he advertised for them.

But that still leaves a gap on why they kept it secret. What would be the reasons for them not to admit or deny anything? That is the most confusing part.

The thing is that sega always wanted the best music for their sonic games and thats why they got MJ but it is true that they might of gotten him at the end of production but they might of had him at the start of it to because if he did write all the music it would of taken awhile to write and then play the music and then have it recorded. While it is true that while the songs are simulare to each other in the games and MJ's songs it is most likly that they are differnt of where ran though a filter before placed into the game to make it sega's. Legal to do so i don't know but it is sega the people that weill do anything for a quick buck when it involes sonic.

I will never believe this.

But seriously, I really dont care. Maybe he did do the music, if he did.. that is really awesome because Michael Jackson was an amazing musician. If not, who ever did do the music was still really good.

I have to agree with Ríckéń here. I have heard of links between Sonic and MJ before (something to do with the shoes last I heard). Each one (MJ and the Sega music staff) both have/had a talent for music. I couldn`t care less which of them wrote the music for the game - the music was good and that`s all that really mattered to me.

I only skimmed for a small portion of the article - I don`t really have the time to spend to read through that whole thing tonight. But it seemed interesting and intriguing nonetheless.

This was one of the things I questioned as a kid... My mother had one of MJ's albums and she played it on occasion, sometimes while I was about. And yes, the music did linger in my memory when I went through Sonic 3. And once I reached Ice Cap, I began to say to myself:
"Hey, that sounds like mummy's music!"
Eventually I found out it was influenced by MJ's music...
