The Female Ultimate Life Form!

I had been browsing Youtube when I came across this channel dedicated to everything cute. It just so happened that they had a dressed pet segment and this is what spawned this poll. (Not to mention I was at the store the other day and they have this huge pet clothing aisle full of tutus and stuff) So what are your thoughts? Is it alright to dress pets? I myself do not like the thought of dressing pets. A lot of those pets people show in pictures look miserable. I can't help but think of those cartoons where those little boys tie paper bags to the cats feet and what it struggle. (don't ask why...) I remember going to a zoo that raises wild animals that were treated inhumanely. They showed use the monkey cage and discussed that some of them were dressed (head to toe) and were pets. Dressing them causes them distress and they sometimes begin to bite/scratch their hands off. But yeah I just think it's plain goofy to dress pets in peoples clothes. Some of the outfits are cute/funny I'll admit. (The little dogs in hot dog buns) lolPETA? Edited by SuperShadowgal, Jun 30 2009, 05:47 PM.

Hahah, see, I don't mind pressed pets. Not dressed wild animals. I see dogs with their claws polished and painted, and I've seen them wearing clothes no problem. It depends on the dog and when they're introduced to the clothes. My dog personally hates when I put old t-shirts on her, and she does her damndest to tear them off. ^^;; I don't bother her with it anymore. However, clothes are sometimes necessary or beneficial, such as with short legged dogs that are pregnant, or short-haired dogs in cold conditions. For the former, putting a t-shirt on them stops their bellies and teats from dragging on the ground (the clothe at least stops them from being rubbed raw). The latter is self explanatory. There are also dog goggles boots for eye problems or unnatural terrain, and bullet-proof vests for k9 units. However, clothes just for the helluvit are also fine by me, as long as it's not negatively affecting the animal, such as putting a dog in heavy cloth in hot weather, or having trailing fabric that can get caught and injure or immobilize the animal. If a dog or cat is constantly tearing at the clothing or otherwise stressed by it, like any other stimuli, it should be removed. There's a difference between booting a cat with paper bags, or booting a dog who is otherwise fine with special footwear. *shrug* I should mention that some animals actually seem to like wearing clothes. Some also equate a function to them, such as a k9 or bomb-sniffer knowing to work when they're vests are on. It all depends on the purpose and the wearer, I guess. >3 Now to go find the reindeer collar I bought for Jenna! Jingle jingle! |

If you dress your pet I would consider you to be a very, very sad individual. |

If it's a chihuahua in the winter cold. I'd say yes. Otherwise, no. Why would pets need clothes, I mean they have a fur to keep the cold, and around summers. Well, that would be totally crazy. If it wasn't cold ventilated.

I think dressing a pet is sad. It's not right, the most my pet ever had was a collar. I think pets don't need clothing because they have a fur to keep them dressed in. Stop being so scary and sad. |

I think some of you are forgetting that clothing has gone far beyond the functional purpose of protection. What do you think fashion is? Fashion is an art, and an expression of creativity and individuality. How many of you when preparing to dress yourself think along the lines of "What is the bare minimum I can put on to protect me from the 73 degree temperature today?" as opposed to, "What goes best with this pair of shoes?" The same applies to our animals. Necessity does not compute in the decision to clothe an animal whose fur significantly protects it from the elements because I'm sure most pet owners are well aware of what the function of fur is. Many do it to make their pet look good or do it in an effort to treat their animal as much like a kid as possible. That being said, I ultimately don't care about people clothing their animals. So long as the apparel isn't significantly uncomfortable, then I don't consider it abusive or wrong or anything along those lines. And sometimes, the animal can actually look decent. xD Edited by BlizShadow, Jul 1 2009, 01:05 PM.
