Did, that guy just point at CSF and say the comics and sprites there were shit, that's rich considering his are a total pile of balls. And that was not handy, or dandy, all he did was scream and swear and tell you what not to do instead of what to do. He never mentioned that comic bubbles are the main thing people need to fix, he just went on and on about how people do the same things over and over, big suprise this happens when the next generation of spritists and comicists come in, it goes through that cycle all the time, it's how they learn, don't tell them not to do it, just help them get better instead of telling them they're wrong. You have to recolour to get better, it's a fact of spriting you don't get to a decent stage till about your first/second year and even then you are still learning. Nobody should watch this, instead just post your stuff and get better via good old C+C just like mummy used to make. If you watch this you end up thinking he's right when he isn't go to more than one forum, but don't go to the biggest and most huge sprite forums at first, they'll knock your spirit down, and it's a horrible thing to see. Hell, I'll make a ton of tutorials if it helps some of you out. But I won't if nobody will use them. |

I have to agree, it's not a helpful tutorial at all, it's just a rant about clichés, and as you say, he's not an amazing spriter himself. I find it laughable that he bashes recolours and Tails/Sonic splices when that's basically what he's done - though admittedly he did add a couple of edits, too. He tries to pass it off as a wolf, too. Shadre, I'd be interested in seeing you make some tutorials for spriting and sprite comics. If you want any help, I'd be glad to offer. For those of you interested, here are his two sprite comics: One and Two. Should give you a good idea of exactly how much credibility (or lack, thereof) he has when it comes to talking about sprite comics. |

You people fail to reliaze what context this video is in. HDG's are made for ENTERTAINMENT or at least Darkness's part is. (Though I am sure that is what the orignal creator RandomDCE had them in mind for.) Watch the part from 00:34 to 00:41 where he said "I made this for fun, for your entertainment, so you can sit back enjoy and shut the *curse word* up . Even though it was done as a responce to anyone who was gonna call him a ripoff it still shows that he made them for fun and not for something people have to obey. Though I say Marcus did post them here so you point is not void.

The point was everyone here (including MarcusTH) was taking it way too seriously. Besides I NEVER said you couldn't give critism. I just wanted to point out that this is NOT meant to be taken seriously. THERE'S A DIFFERENCE. Also there are some people (like me) who just watch it for entertainment. It's made for entertainment. We're not arguing we're discussing. The Handy Dandy guides by RandomDCE are obviously jokes because people from the entertainment industry will never take the advice, mostly because there isn't any but still, it's obvious it is a joke. However Darkness' video gives us a lot of advice and I'm sure a small amount of people find it useful, but to people who go through the experience of the video, by that I mean done the things the video says not to do, but still became rather talented in those areas. Would be pissed quite honestly. And comedy is a way of expressing views from politial to otherwise, take the angry video game nerds videos we know it's all for entertainment, but those games really are crap, and the point of the video is that they are crap, and it's the same with this video here, but Darkness disregards natural growth via practice and study and says that instant talent is the only way through, and you have to change things now. Thus voiding any new talent which comes through. Which is annoying as it's taken a long time to get most of the spriting community to actually take in newbies and give them advice on how to get better at spriting and character making, and soon after the support of people giving advice the improvements made, are extremely sudden at times, which is great to see. You should really stop with the whole capital letters emphasis thing, it's kinda annoying to READ, and STUFF, to me capitalised words make people seem obnoxtious. But don't worry I'm not implying that you are. It's not fun if you don't debate back. |
