It's a start, yes, but then you need to begin to learn other steps, such as frankenspriting, for one. Try escaping the basic re-color stage, and try adding other things, up to the point where you feel comfortable custom-spriting, as well. Frankenspriting [using more than one sprite and molding it together]

Tails' tails, and 2 of them(Not very original). It is just shadow with Tails' tails. Nothing extremely special, but usually people don't even go up to the bargain to make them(a recolor) just from 1 character. For a new spriter, 6/10. For an experienced one, 3/10.

That's what it's called? Frankenspriting? That's what my golden sprite used... it was Knuckles, Sonic, Mecha Sonic, and Shadow. Nayik, i dub thee: N00B! cuts Nayik's head off with lightsaber All i really did was recolor... but i found out that spriting is too much effort for not enough results. Like my Bacon sheet. He was basically a Dark Sonic recolor with some cool effects, and the sheet wasn't even finished. I spent total probably about 10 hours on that.

Alrighty, I've got time on my hands now, so I might as well do this. 5 Samples An old sprite of Epsilon I did a while back. An old GIF I made of one of my first characters, Vegura. An attempt at making a transformation of Vegura, also very old. What I consider my best crack at a PA edit, made to look like Sarux as an echidna. My latest work made to get an idea of what my character Nolectos would look like. Oh dammit, I don't like them, especially with the lack of contrast and effort. I much more prefer to avoid having Shadow's quills right there since it appears that you just added a couple of quills on Shadow's quills. Try to make your own original quills; experiment, and always remember: Get the shading and contrast right. Ish gonna take place in the teacher spot -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
