This isn't a full bio or anything like that, but proposed changes I have in the future for some of my characters. I've finally compiled a list of proposed changes for Jewel and NightShade. Yes... fan characters that I've clung to for 8 and 6 years respectively. I'm sure everyone, including me, has to ask themselves at one point or another why I even bother to try and fix them up. I guess I'm just... I don't know what the word would be... too clingy? So yeah, I did my last major update at age 15 (major as in new designs and bios) ; 4 years ago. I did a character redesign at 17, but I've been nitpicking and making notes of proposed changes ever since. In fact... these bios have never been 100% complete (they're very vague...) I'd say I want these changes to be bigger than the last time, but I'd be lying (I guess). So, here's the list. And yes I still fail at making characters. I want some critiques if that's even possible. There should be more stuff to come. I am drawing concept art [doodles] at the moment. So here's the list (and if you want to see the bios <not updated in years> ~~there's a link in my signature.~~ I'll have to fix my signature so you can click them.): Jewel changes: New hair design - Not really a BIG change, but ever since giving her long hair when I hit 15, I've had problems with it. The person who critiqued me about it was right, it was goofy, I never understood how goofy her hair would be until I sprited more and more images. I'm shortening it again, maybe even just keeping a tuft on the right side. It's possible I may make a short haircut. Final removal of Chaos Emerald reference - No seriously. Final removal of that UCE bullshit. I may have wanted to make a female, who at the time, wasn't extremely girly girl, but doing this wasn't the answer. There's obviously other ways to say she isn't a weak female. Introduction of elemental power (Wind or nature) - I just thought an elemental power would be neat. I would pick Wind, but it's Sonic's staple. No fun stealing his thunder. I was thinking of doing nature, but Nature is a very vague/broad element. I was thinking Nature in the sense of Grass (like Pokeymanz). I'm still working on it. Don't know if I want to add it. Possible introduction of rapier weapon - Was going to do a Black Knight design and thought it might make a nice addition to her normal everyday echidna-ness. I don't really know... I thought that could be the reason she has a Nature element, like the weapon can harness the powahs of nature. (WTFFFFF) History update/tweaking - No really, it needs to be updated. And it's always been constant thing I'm trying to fix/rewrite. With the changes listed above, it needs a major overhaul. That's goes with the bio too and I will be adding more information to it. NightShade changes: Species change (Porcupine) - Because I thought Porcupine (or maybe wolf) would be awesome. Age - 30 Color change (minor reversal of colors) - I'm just thinking of switching his purple streaks/marks to be grey and his grey fur to purple. History update -> “Rediscovering your roots” taking ideas (snippets) from the past and applying them to this bio instead - I was thinking back to an old scrapped recolor when I thought upon taking an old concept and giving it to NightShade. (see below) Personality changes - making NightShade a little insane in the membrane (see below) ^ Belief of being god or ultimate life form - Once a title, then a belief, I wanted to change it to a delusion that he thinks hes a god or something (crazy). (see more below) I was thinking of making his story something along the lines of this [nutshell] : He lives in a village which is beginning to industrialize itself, but the factory that builds up next to the village hides a government secret. There's an explosion that nearly wipes out the entire city. Survivors are picked up and quickly quarantined. Many begin to exhibit strange powers or mutations. ((The tragedy is covered up.)) NS discovers he has some type of psychic ability, but unable to control it, hears a flood of thoughts from the quarantine area. Eventually goes mad and is shuttled off to a G.U.N.-run asylum. Pretty much he goes mad. And is kept there for 5 years where they try to play off that no accident had ever happened. The lies from the agents just toss NS into a deeper insanity. Other changes: Removal of Nikki -> What can I say, always a Mary-sue/generic anime girl. She really had no purpose after I scrapped my old fan fiction... really... she's never had a purpose. Clingy could be the right word . rubs eyes, with a yawn Anyways, would you mind linking me to the profiles of these two characters? I'd be able to give better opinions than the ones I'm going to list, seeing as I've never seen their profiles. Comments on Jewel Thanks goodness for the ridding of Chaos Emeralds. Leave Chaos energy powers to Shadow. But what is the U stand for in UCE. I do warn you elemental powers is a very tricky matter to deal with. Of course a source of using this power is a usual recommendation. Blaze is the only character that can manipulate an element, and she lives in an alternate dimension were is may be considered common. It's your call in which type of element to control, though I do agree the nature is a bit... vague/broad. points to Ninjutsu ? [Nature needs to have a balance. You can expect to grow a tree without something of equal cost, like a different tree will wither and die as your character makes one of the trees grow.] But hearing that you may have a rapier, you can have this weapon be your elemental source, though you'll have to explain the situation to us. Rapiers, from my thoughts, are swift. So wind element? It was a horrible idea when I first made her. Basically it was a very strong Chaos Emerald, let's put it that way. But thank you for the imput. Hopefully I can address some of the questions these changes would pose and possibly add up some pictures (I know I'll be doddling on my notes during class today.). :3

This is encompassing support characters (family and friends) and may include spoilers, dare I say? I have also begun rewriting the bio (since 2 days ago). As stated, critiques are very welcome. So without further delay, more changes: Jewel Minor redesign: As you can currently see this was the minor design adjustment I had in mind. Her hair is now just in the front, those two pieces. There is no ponytail or hair that is hidden behind the dreadlocks. Minor biography changes: I'm upping Jewel's age slightly to 17, as current to coincide with changes to her family (see below). He height has been increased to 3'5", up from average height of 3'3". Weapon: As it stands, the rapier imbued with wind power is in. History ideas: To explain the rapier, I'm currently hovering around the idea that: inspired by her best friends grandfather -- his small weaponry training school, she decides to take up the art of sword play. Jewel stumbles across a rapier, possibly in an antique shop. The owner says its a blade shrouded in mystery, the origins of the weapon, maker, he never learned. Unsuccessful in selling it, he decides to give Jewel (the family) the weapon at a fair price. Eventually as she unravels the fact that it is imbued with wind powers, she juggles the thought of tracking down the possible owner. To hone her skill further in this weapons special power. Jewel's family Fixing the sibling rivalry: If it's in her history currently, Jewel has a twin sister named Daisy who pulls a cliche evil twin thing off. While she is still going to be an evil sister, she is no longer a twin. Her age is 21, making Daisy the eldest of her sisters. I was thinking her reasons for running away could be out of selfish, spoiled-brat reason. Knowing her new baby sister Jewel would become an attention hog and later learning another baby would be on the way, she decides to run away (she loves being the center of attention, but you can't really be that when you have 3 children, eh?). Daisy joins a "rebel" group with full support behind the Dark Legion [[Archie, anyone?]] and a high belief that the myth of the Nocturnus clan is true. This rebel group believes the Nocturnus will return and they hope that they will be able to support these technological terrors. Daisy envisions becoming a high ranking official in this group and leading them on this rumored day. Among other things they hate the current views of the Echidnas on Angel Island; an extremist group that believes the Echidna society is a force to be reckoned with and that they rightfully should control the world (like in the past). Anti-other species. Yes, extreme. Younger sibling changes: Ages will changed (things have to be sorted out when I work on the background story to Jewel. I'm planning on changing Kiko's name to a noun. All the sisters names are nouns, save her. I was thinking of justifying all of their names being nouns. (Daisy, Jewel, Glitter) Have not considered a new name yet. Jewel's friends Taru-ka: Taru-ka has had his design changed slightly. I went for a pirate/swordsman design. His dreadlocks are now "brushed" to his left side, giving a layered hair appearance. As with Jewel's age bump, Taru-ka is now 18, I want him to be the eldest of this group of friends. If you have ever taken a litmus test or read how not to be a mary-sue, most guides say to try and avoid Japanese inspirations. Taru-ka no longer uses a katana/Japanese sword-style. He has an English sword. And that can be seen here: Art topic Kayla-lay: My art topic states that I am doing a WIP signature. And Kayla-lay's redesign is next. Clicking above, you can see the redesign, although it is not fully final. I'm not sure if I realized it back then or not, but in the Archie comics, there is a Kayla-la. While the name was pretty, I think I should change it to avoid... conflict... I'm considering Keiri-rei (Kai-ree-ray) :lol: Age is changed to 17. Kayla began to lose her vision as she grew older. Jewel knew this before leaving on her original adventure to become a freedom fighter. Jewel returns home to find her friend is wearing glasses now to help her see; which causes her to change her wardrobe (to look good with her glasses). Jewel is still going to go on an adventure and it is possible I may keep the concept. Although I have been leaning towards Kayla having to wear glasses before Jewel departs. She's supposed to give off a geeky vibe, labeling Kayla (Jewel and Taru-ka) into a group of nerds at school. Basically, the popular kids think they're all dorks. Overall: Jewel's ambitions to join a freedom fighting group also propels her adventure. (There should be no problem if she admires the freedom fighters, but never meets them personally?) Upon returning home she decides instead of being recruited, she'll make a team with her friends (and younger sisters). NightShade As it stands, most ideas for NightShade still stand. He will be a wolf, his is going to be 30(ish), he is teetering on the edge of madness. Currently I'm just thinking of how I will handle his backstory, how his new encounter with Jewel will arise (and he will become enemies with her) and a possible shocker about the fate of his wife (and unborn child). His real name is also being thought up, NightShade is now a nickname. His redesign, concept art, can be seen in my art topic. Now this is probably a spoiler. If you don't want to know who she is and would like to leave it to a fan fic then you're done. If you want to review the idea and see if it should be implemented, continue on. Spoiler: click to toggle "Neight" (pron. Night, despite how the nickname looks.) Considering tragic happenings in one's history, I don't want NightShade to fully have to lose everything and pull the emo (even though he's not pulling an emo). As I've already stated, a freak accident in a modernizing village causes a giant blast that takes out majority of the town. Numerous people die, but there are survivors. Those who survive have dire consequences; exhibiting strange powers, mutations, etc. Survivors are ported to G.U.N. military base. NightShade is led on that his family is nonexistent, there was no blast, he's insane, his family is dead, blah blah. Basically information is withheld here, including the fate of his wife and unborn child. The haz-mat people sent to the village recover a pregnant woman. the trauma has caused the 8-months pregnant woman to prematurely go into labor. (going by human prgnancy, may be changed to fit the species). The woman is injured badly and the birth of the baby is the final straw on the back, she does expire on the way to the island. The child (whose full-name will be worked on once NightShade has a full name) is raised at G.U.N. She exhibits a high IQ (when she starts school on the military base) and, similar to her father she has some sort of psychic power. She doesn't display what NS has, but can bend, move, break, sometimes will? object with heavy concentration. Neight is raised for military purposes at G.U.N and eventually joins the science/technology department on the island. Despite the strict rules of working on the base, she enjoys being lax with co-workers; suggesting they not address her formally and call her by her nickname "Neight," wearing a casual outfit with only the male equivalent of the G.U.N uniform and donning an arm band (my word, Neo-nazi-esque look? I think that Neo-nazis thing on History intrigued too much, even if it bothered me.) with a scientific symbol?, tomboy-ish. Neight has been taught and fed that her father was deadbeat and left her mother, to hopefully keep her ties cut from her father (and keep her as a loyal member of the military, a weapon? an ace up their sleeve?). She's fit to headaches due to her psychic ability and using her powers can cause her headaches. By the way, I must admit, she is a wolf/hedgehog hybrid. Yes, one of those outlandish hybrids combinations. I wanted her to have traits from both parents visible. (wolf parts, hedgehog parts) An outcast in the normal world, thus justifying why she would stay with G.U.N. Maybe the accident could have some sort of involvement in her strange hybrid look? As probably already noticed, I have begun posting newly updated bios from these proposed changes, but I would like this topic to be more about bouncing some various ideas around. I would hope someone might assist. ^_^; Current topic: Echidna Stripes It should be no surprise that I have a strong interest in Echidnas and their whole history; game-wise and archie sonic-wise. One of the things I changed on my character (although a small tweak) was the stripe that echidnas have on their chest. It's probably a bit silly ponder over such trivial things, but what do you propose is the reason echidnas have that stripe on their chest? Could it be tribal markings? Which in this sense, could the marking simply be used as a coming of age in echidna culture today? Is it there at birth? Which would mean that birth defects could play in part in altering the look of the stripe? Now, I know in the comics, it seems that all echidnas are born with it (Knuckles comic, story of his childhood). Although I base my characters in Archie universe, I wouldn't mind some deviation from the norm and explaining some things in my own way. This is just one such thing I want to discuss. This will be a topic in the near future.
