Smashed iPod; to fix or not to fix

I'MA FIRIN' MA LAZER!
So, here's the story. I was at a fair last weekend, and i got on some ride. it went pretty high, and i didn't realise i had my ipod in my pocket. So, when i got off the ride, i realised i'd lost it, and that i maybe dropped it. I found it on the ground, smashed to smitereens.

The LCD screen is smashed, i can see the cooper underneath it at the very top corner. Whether it's the circuit board or whatever, i don't know. Also, It's slightly bent from the fall, so im guessing theres damage underneath too. Before i dropped it, the battery was more or less dead, but when i tried turning it on, it worked, but the screen was just completley white.

I'm going to take it to the repair shop at the weekend to see if it can be fixed. But i just hope that it isn't too badly damaged. Does it sound like it is or is it doable?

And if so, would it just be cheaper to get a new one?

Metal Sonic works for Apple? XD

Anyway...I'm not much of a fan of iPods. However, if something gets smashed like that, it's usually not repairable, just from what I've experienced. Good luck to you, though...if it's more expensive to repair then replace, they'll usually tell you, so you don't have to worry about that.

Anyway, in case you do have to get a new player, I'm going to take this opportunity to hawk Zunes. They're not dependent on iTunes, can play WMAs as well as iPod formats, have a wide screen, changeable wallpapers, a single touchpad that'll make you wonder why you put up with cramping your thumb on an iPod, and actually quite a great social aspect. Also wireless syncing, best earphones I've ever had (and I've had some nice ones)...really, the only two things I'd prefer iPod over Zune about are the fact that iPod has better language support (Zune can't yet view Asian characters...unfortunate for us weeaboos :P ) and it can act as an external hard drive, last time I checked. Recently, though, it's become impossible to extract songs off an iPod onto a PC, and that royally pissed me off.

Well, my dad rang up our local iPod repair shop and he explained what the damage was. They said that if the lcd screen and actual casing is smashed up, which it is, then it'l be £110. We haven't sent it away yet, so they haven't had the chance to open it up to see what the damage is etc. But there probably is, so i'm guessing it'l be even more money. Still sound fixable?

On a side note, a new 2nd generation iPod here is £215 mines a 1st generation.
