Sonic's Final stand?; is The Sonic series dying?

I still can't use this.

You're correct. The PS3 and 360 versions are the same minus the framerate: The PS3 version runs at 60 fps to the 360's 30. Unfortunately, that means the framerate drops that do happen are just that much more noticeable. And in my humble opinion, the 60 fps gives the game a sped-up and artificial look. Oy, I could barely play the demo.

(PS: Nice to see a still have a fan. xD)

I sure hope the Sonic series isn't dying! I would never let it die, because I would still play old games. X D

Sure, compared to the "old days" of Sonic, or the Adventure series, more recent Sonic games may not seem very good. But think about it... Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Chronicles are way better than Shadow the Hedgehog or StH06 (I say that because I'm pretty certain everyone feels that way... don't be offended if you like those games please! ^^;). So, starting from those games, the Sonic series is steadily improving. Even though Unleashed got bad reviews, it seems to be popular among fans... and now that Sega realizes that nobody really like the Werehog system (once again, I'm generalizing ^^;), they know not to do things like that in the future. The games are getting better...

So after Sonic Heroes, I guess Sonic sort of had a setback in terms of popularity and game quality... but, they say a setback is a setup for a comeback. Sonic is too good of a series to just die like that. = )

What in the world is this topic about? More cries of death? For God's sake, Sonic is currently the second best selling platforming series in the whole world. What more could anyone ask for?

Secondly, why now to be complaining about the fact that spinoffs exist? Sonic has had spinoffs, downgrades, and ports since the near beginning of the franchise-- The GG downgrades of 1,2 and 3, Labyrinth, Chaotix, Jam, 3D Blast, Spinball, Mean Bean Machine, R, Fighters, etc. etc. And besides, the last installment in the main canon came out only two months ago. As much fanfare and as positive a fan reception it has received, one cannot possibly have forgotten about Unleashed so soon.

Seriously, Sonic is doing fine. Just because one game has critically and commercially bombed and it's not more popular than God anymore doesn't mean it's anywhere close to dying off. You people worry too much.
The comics themselves are also spinoffs of Sonic.

It's a matter of opinion. I prefer Shadow the Hedgehog to Sonic Unleashed. I have never played Sth06 though. And still, Shadow isn't the best game, but I liked it better than Unleashed.

^ Oh. Well, I'm sorry. ^^; Let me rephrase: many people like Sonic Unleashed more than Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic 06. So, to many people, Sonic games are getting somewhat better.

On another semi-unrelated note: a lot of people are angry at sites like IGN, Gamespot, etc. because they keep giving Sonic games bad reviews (such as with Sonic Unleashed, as was mentioned earlier). But... to be fair, they do know what they're doing... they are, for the most part, professional game reviewers (whatever that entails) who rate games for a living. So even though people may disagree with them, perhaps we should listen to what they have to say... maybe?

Well, I think Sega should have completely stayed with the Sonic Adventure era, if you want my opinion. I mean, I like Unleashed a lot, and I love Chronicles, but there are some things lacking in Unleashed.

The music could have been better, preferably like in Adventure, which I think had the best music of any. Sure, the Adventure Fields they attempted to include were okay, but the ones in SA were ten times better.

I think Sonic still has hope, and Sonic and The Black Knight doesn't actually look all that bad. The music in the trailer sounds good, and that's definitely a start.

I have been a sonic fan since I was big enough to hold a game controller, I would never give up on him, even if I thought he was doing bad(which he is not!), and for what reason are people saying Shadow the Hedgehog is bad? That is one of the best games I have ever played!(P.S. Unleashed rocks, never played Chronicals or 06)

I personally agree with what the topic starter is saying, once i was listening to sa2 music and loved it so much, and started crying because I felt like it would never happen again.

Sonic Heroes was Adventure-like, but definitely not the same.
A large part of a game is the mood induced by the graphics and sound, and SA2 is the perfectest sonic game in my opinion. Relating to this topic, Sonic Unleashed was Adventure like, but not enough. Nevertheless, Unleashed marks the beginning of Sonic's recovery i hope.

I agree, Sonic Team needed to stay with the Adventure series. They could make 10 games and I'd be happy because each one would have a different story like SA and SA2 did. This would be the greatest thing if they actually went back and made an Adventure game like SA2.

They should continue the SA storyline! Another adventure title would make me so happy. The stories and character development in both of those games was phenomenal... most of the character made nowadays, IMO anyway, are just filler characters (Jet, Wave, Storm, Marine, Chip, etc.).

The music of the Adventure series is amazing too. They need to star making it like that again... Unleashed's music was good, I actually enjoyed it, but it just kind of felt... impersonal. Like it didn't really mean anything that important. A lot of the SA and SA2 music made me feel like I was actually there, running around and stuff. It had so much life.

I'm glad that in Unleashed, sega is (somewhat) going back to their roots.

Sonic unleashed isn't that bad, previous games were slightly lacking...
I'm wondering what sega will do now.

Caek is epic, Eh?
*Sigh* I think they should just give up on sonic and make one more game then for at least 10 years let him rest.
