Recently Sonic slowly has been losing his fan base....of course Sonic has had his moments of power(Genesis,Somwhat of Dreamcast & GC/PS2) But lately alot of people (i somewhat agree with this) are starting to say Sonic is being "Played out" with his constant game releases what i feel is they should have a main series again rather then all these side series.
I mean it kinda makes me mad that they wont even Bring a Sequel to any game with the whole cast of characters. instead they decide to make these "Side" Games with Fake versions of the real characters. but thats personally in my opinion but if Sonic fans aren't given an awesome game to contend with the Genesis series i fear, sonic may lose all of his fan base. I've left the Games section of the Sonic Fandom, I mostly stick around for the Comics, because unlike the games, the story makes me come back to it.

Yea The thing that makes the comics good is that they have a good storyline that you can stick too and leave you wanting more...but the game franchise is like.....Giving you a big meal of sonic that didn't really taste that good...and so your like "Sorry, i cant take another sonic game this bad or im gona puke"

I still can't use this.

What in the world is this topic about? More cries of death? For God's sake, Sonic is currently the second best selling platforming series in the whole world. What more could anyone ask for?

Secondly, why now to be complaining about the fact that spinoffs exist? Sonic has had spinoffs, downgrades, and ports since the near beginning of the franchise-- The GG downgrades of 1,2 and 3, Labyrinth, Chaotix, Jam, 3D Blast, Spinball, Mean Bean Machine, R, Fighters, etc. etc. And besides, the last installment in the main canon came out only two months ago. As much fanfare and as positive a fan reception it has received, one cannot possibly have forgotten about Unleashed so soon.

Seriously, Sonic is doing fine. Just because one game has critically and commercially bombed and it's not more popular than God anymore doesn't mean it's anywhere close to dying off. You people worry too much.

Depending on what your views are, there could be a considerable number of problems with the series to you which I believe is just one of the two problems plaguing this series-- No one knows what they want from the games anymore which leaves them to be ripped apart at the slightest instance of experimentation.

People will freak out over ideas that have been done before numerous times and are actually highly generic cliches when it comes to cartoon-esque series. Werewolves and swords? You see this stuff everywhere. Apply it to the Sonic series and people do nothing but claim disaster without taking a second to breathe and wait and see just how this stuff will work. We're picky, we're undeserving, we're illogical, and why Sonic Team keeps trying to cater to us when we're hopeless and pretty much hate them is beyond me.

The other problem I alluded to beforehand is a lack of technical polish. Really, while the 360 version of Unleashed is the most spectacular 3D game to date, it still suffers from things like slowdown, pop-up, and weird design decisions such as keeping Sonic's level speed within hubs. These annoyances are easily fixable, and should Sonic Team finally make a game that has better polish, I think there'd be much less to complain about.

Unleashed is pretty cool. But I want to get the 360 version because you can explore towns and you have way more levels than the PS2/Wii version. Too bad I don't have a 360 yet.

But Sonic is still going strong. I feel that Unleashed is the start of a new era. A better era for the Sonic franchise.

I agree with Bliz. Sonic's last few games were okay, but in Sonic Unleashed he made an excellent comeback. What's not to like?

The probelm right now is that Sega is restricting Sonic Team, BioWare, Backbone, Dimps. Anyone making a sonic game really.

Example. Backbone were actually developing a proper 2D game for the PSP. They had a bunch of original features, and game would play just like Rush or Sonic 3. Stuff like 3D special stages, a boss battle were you falling to earth from eggmans space ship. But then Sega came along and basically said no. They told backbone to create a one on one racing game. This decision was basically influenced by marketing. By creating a new type of gameplay, gamers are curious, and they buy the game.

So backbone scrapped the ideas they had, and built Rivals. Simple as that.

Sonic X-treme suffered the exact same probelm.

Also, just taking a blind stab, but I'd guess that Werehog was Segas idea, not Sonic Teams. Again, its Sega trying to make as much money out of Sonic as possible. Why. Because by now Sega is headed by a bunch of greedy 70 year olds, who only care about making a profit, not the quality of the game, and fan service. This happens a lot, not just in games. People get too comfortable in posistions of power.

The developers are being restricted. Thus they lose motivation. If the developers don't have motivation, they don't come up with great ideas, and they lose interest and intent. Thus we get half assed games, with obvious probelms. Luckliy, Yoshihisa Hashimoto, our new lead designer is motivated. But Sega are still placing restrictions.

We can only hope for new management ASAP

What is the difference between a duck?

I loved Unleashed.. and even though the Rivals games aren't as great as what Backbone had in store they are pretty entertaining for handheld titles nonetheless. I find Sonic to actually be in a pretty good position despite no-nothing critics bashing him because when you have the low rating of one or two critics vs. the decent to high ratings coming from almost the entirety of a fandom (Unleashed) I go with the numbers over the desk jockeys any day.

Sonic is still around and the newly revitalized Sonic Team is looking to turn this franchise back into a staple of the gaming industry again (not that it hasn't always been.. but no one can deny some falters after the 90's) and as Cap said, SEGA is really putting too much restriction into the team going forward. To draw a parallel.. you can have on any sports team the greatest players in the world, but if you have an overly conservative coach that doesn't allow them to throw long for the Touchdown, shoot the 3, or score the miracle game winning goal.. you have a chemistry that is bound to fail. I'm not putting all the blame on the SEGA management but they should rightfully bare their sizable load just as Sonic Team has.

Sonic is still alive and kicking. However, like an ass stubborn to it's master is it really kicking for the better? I think Sonic The Hedgehog can and will go on as a popular game series but, if their on spinoffs already I don't see why they don't do a game with the SatAM universe

Agreed. Personally, all of his other games are great, so a game based on at least one of the shows would be totally awesome.

What about the PS3 version? Isn`t that the same as the 360 far as having same material, same graphics, etc? (Sorry but I see sooooo many people talk about the 360 version and no other version so I have no idea of the comparisons.)

I do agree with the other things you`ve been saying, Bliz. I don`t think Sonic is as bleak as believed. Granted I`ve only heard of two game with Sonic coming out (thus far, the Black Knight and the Genesis Collection) but that doesn`t mean that`s the end of it. People have gotten way too picky while not knowing what they want out of it. I personally have been happy for the most part (SonicR being the only one that really irks me, I mean come on, the guys at Sega even said they didn`t like SonicR, how bad is that?).

I`m going to finish reading your other posts before I say more. XD (I like your stuff.)
