So... I couldn't find any other recent topic like this, so... yea. For as long as Sonic's been existent, he's had 4 voice actors. (I'm pretty sure anyway): Jaleel - AoStH, SatAM, SU Ryan - SA, SA2, Heroes, Advanced 1 and 2, Battle, and Shuffle Jason - Sonic X onward OVA guy - ....the OVA. So, Who do you think best portrays our little blue friend? Edited by A Spades Ω, Jan 10 2009, 06:50 PM.

He's actually had a few more. His voice actor for SegaSonic Arcade was Takeshi Kusao. His Japanese voice actors in the games are Junichi Kanemaru and Tomokazu Seki as the Werehog. And finally, his Japanese voice actor in the OAV is Masami Kikuchi. And since I'm feeling cheeky, his singer in Soinic Underground is Samuel Vincent. So, in order of appearance, all of his voice actors are --> Takeshi Kusao Jaleel White Masami Kikuchi Samuel Vincent Junichi Kanemaru Martin Burke (The OAV guy. xD) Ryan Drummond Jason Anthony Griffith Tomokazu Seki But to stop being a smartass and actually answer the question, my absolutely favorite is Junichi Kanemaru with Tomokazu Seki being barely edged out. Both just have really great and lovable voices and are fun to listen to. They also both emote insanely well compared to all of the American VAs. Had Kanemaru not been voicing Sonic since forever ago, Seki's more natural sounding and funnier Werehog would have been my number one. |

Weeell, I think I'm going to have to be the first to grab the weaboo title and say Junichi Kanemaru is my personal favourite. In my opinion, he's the best person who's ever voiced Sonic and portrays his character better than anyone else, regardless of language. But, since you seem to have been going for the english VAs in this topic, I have to vote Jaleel White hands down. I've always been half and half (sometimes it's great and other times it's horrible) with both Jason's and Ryan's acting, but I don't recall ever having a problem with Jaleel's. Infact even today, I still love the way he portrays Sonic in the old cartoons. It may be that I got lucky by seeing Sonic way before I ever heard of Family Matters, though. So when I hear his voice, I think of it as Sonic's voice, not as Urkel's voice, unlike a lot of people I've met. Apparently that ruined it for them. EDIT: Dangit, Bliz beat me to it. ;_; Edited by Destiny's Shadow, Jan 10 2009, 07:15 PM.

Junichi **Bleep**ing Kanemaru by far. He's got Sonic down perfectly, giving off a sense of excitement and fun that defines the Blue Blur. Despite the difference in language, Junichi's voice is very easy on the ears and just seems much more natural than the American voice actors'. Tomokazu Seki's Werehog "HAH!" at the beginning of the levels is **Bleep**ing awesome as well. <3 He's a good seiyuu. For lulziness, though, Martin Burke and Jaleel White are good. |

I'm going to take your lulziness seriously and say that after being on a Sonic Movie binge some months ago, I'm going to go against the grain and say that I actually admire Martin Burke's voice for the campiness it has. In many instances, he even has a snobbishness and arrogance that fits the hedgehog of old well. And a bit of his delivery was great, too; funny even. He's really not that bad. I just think his lack of talent is completely overblown by a fandom that likes to overblow things. I can stand him easily. (But I can't stand Tails' OAV voice. ><;;.) |

Opps, didn't think of the Japanese ones. I'll get to editing that now... Sorry all. EDIT: Dammit, I can't change the questions. Could a Mod do that though? Edited by A Spades Ω, Jan 10 2009, 07:39 PM.

I worded it wrong, now that I think about it. What I mean is that I like Jaleel and Martin's respective deliveries because they are funny, making Sonic seem like... well, an arrogant jackass. XDDD |

Thanks, bliz. My vote still goes to Drummond though, but mostly because I haven't actually heard any of the Japanese ones. |

OMG man, hit up some Youtube videos or switch your language option in the games that have it. You're missing out on some fantastic stuff. D= |

If you want to hear all of them, to make it easier to compare, watch this vid: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OiXIcM4B1Vw And some of Junichi Kanemaru specifically: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xd1WOGXhnXE http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nBVX9EnulUs Sorry I can't give you any with more dialogue, but Japanese cutscenes are hard to find. Everyone who uploads them, insists they be in english. ;; Speaking of which, for that reason, do you have the links to any Japanese Werehog scenes? I have the Wii version of the game, and we don't have the Japanese audio option. I have no idea why, since Secret Rings had that option, but for whatever reason they didn't give it to us this time. |

Tigura21 has Japanese cutscenes starting from Sonic '06 up to Secret Rings. And just for good measure, Setsna2 also has hi-def, Japanese Sonic X episodes. It's not a lot, but it's very difficult to find the Japanese work anywhere. The same goes for Unleashed. All I really know that's been uploaded from the Japanese version of the game have been the first two cutscenes that were leaked by Ruliweb and perhaps the unlockable shorts. You're on your own with the rest. xP |

Thanks DS. Now, I'd still have to say my favorite is Drummond. I can't really justify why, but I just like an English voice better anyway over another language. Don't have any idea why. But, My Fav Japanese one is Junichi . Griffith is in third, and I haven't rated the rest yet. Edited by A Spades Ω, Jan 10 2009, 10:19 PM.

Jaleel White for his Sonic Underground and AOSTH performance. And Ryan Drummond of his success in SADX, SA2B and Heroes. |
