Time management; Golly gee, something I'm bad at!

Yes. Golly gee.

Okay, so... I can do the work, I can take the tests, but what use is that when I never do the homework? I'm always procrastinating. I have a tendancy to do homework and projects the morning their due, sometimes even during my first class. We have to do those current events for World History and Earth Science, but again, I always either turn them in late or I finish them the morning they're due. Right now, I've got a project due tomorrow - two, actually, but one of them is late. The late one was assigned over winter break (bad idea), and I forgot about it until the day it was due. My time management skill (or lack thereof) is the only reason why I'm getting bad grades in two or three of my classes. I'd get straight As if I did the homework and projects on time.

And my procrastination isn't just affecting my schoolwork. I've got drawing requests from a year ago that I haven't even started yet. I keep delaying my stories. Role plays that I'm in have stalled because of me, some of which have even gone on without me.

Schedules have never worked well with me, and I can't just force myself to do the work. My mind just wanders. I keep pausing even when writing this because I keep zoning out.

This whole thing is stressing me out. Bad grades mean parents sitting down and breathing down my neck as I do homework.

Also, this is just a minor problem that I'm just gonna shove out there. I'm seriously shy. I turn into a nervous wreck when I have to speak to most people, aside from my friends. I can hardly even talk to my teachers. I don't want to give up chorus, but we have to sing in very small groups in front of the teacher sometimes. Singing makes me more of a nervous wreck than talking does, especially since I hate my voice. Two days ago, we all had to sing a section of a song in trios - one alto, one first soprano, one second soprano. I'm an alto. The alto has to start off, sometimes with the second, but not always. I was one of the unlucky ones who had to start off with a solo. I opened my mouth and nothing came out. I think someone even laughed at it... I nearly burst into tears because of my nervousness. Someone wound up singing with me, and I was a bit stronger... I was probably at my best when the four of us were all singing together. No one got as nervous as me. It's rather embarrassing, which just made me more nervous. Oh, and when I had finally convinced myself that no one was there behind me, someone shouted "Go Kiara!" and made me more of a nervous wreck.

Does anyone have some kind of suggestion to help me with any of my problems? I would be infinitely grateful if someone could help me.

Well if your shy heres some advice Sonic Sez style!

1.Well if there is someone that you know and your not shy of them like your parents and talk to them alot so you can get used to talking to other people
2.Now if you're doing a speech/singing in front of your whole class it does get pretty nervous "I was scared when i had to say my essay about this story in my english class that was 3 and a half pages long in my book!" so don't look at people unless they are asking you a question or if they are supporting you because looking at people dose make you think that they are gonna laugh at you,So just look at a wall so you don't have that much nervousness and if someone laughs at you ignore what they say,At least you tried nobody isn't perfect!

I had my back turned to the rest of the choir... And it'd be rather weird if I didn'tlook at the teacher, though I did avert my eyes at times. I'll remember what you saidthere.

Last year, I went up on stage to get a reward forbeingan outstanding math student, or somethinglike that. I probably got five seconds of stagetime, but I still felt like I was going to trip or faint or something...

As for talking to people I'm not nervous around... I could probably do that, but the thing is, I don't really likecarrying out conversations. Perhaps it's a fear of saying something dumb. Perhaps it's another one of those "I hate my voice" moments. I really don't know why I don'tlike conversation. I do have one friend that Icould talk all day with, but she's inVermont (I'm in Virginia) with no internet and a cellphoneas her only form of possible spokencommunication with me.

I really do have a hard time carryingout conversations, though... I think I'll try it, but most of the time I can't think of anything to talk about.

I have a few tricks for time management myself.

When I need to tear myself away from play, and get back to work, usually I’ll start my work with a few easy work tasks...that I know I can do in just a few minutes or so. This helps get me in the mood, and raises my spirits since I'm finishing tasks fast. Once I’m in the mood, I’ll start on the harder, longer tasks. And if I have trouble with the hard stuff I’ll go back to doing little, easy things for a while.

Some people say it’s best to immediately begin your work with a hard task while your energy is high, but that doesn’t work well for me. Usually it just demoralizes me when I don’t make much progress, and I end up going back to just screwing around.

I’ve also heard that you tend to do a task sooner if it’s easy for you to visualize yourself doing it, in as much detail as possible. For example, instead of thinking about “I’ll go to the library to work on my research paper”, think “I’ll go to the library, pick out these few books that look good for my paper, read them, pick out stuff that looks good, and then I’ll make my note cards with the passages I picked.”

Thirdly, if you have a big project looming over you, don't visualize it as one giant task. The sheer size of one giant task will just demoralize you, and you won't feel like working on it because of that. Instead visualize it as many smaller tasks. The project doesn't look as intimidating if you take it in pieces. My approach to thinking about research papers is a good example of how you can split up a big task.

Christmas is back again

Sounds like an old school experience I was more likely used to. I am sure your not the only one having problems with time management whether homework or projects. I had the same problem, I mean usually I said to my self. That I will make it if I start on Wednesday. Hmm, well the exact date of time. I feel no interest and actually just wish to continue doing what else I have on my mind.

Delaying it further and closer to the deliver date. OMG! I am making such a big mistake here, but heck I have to fulfil this game. XD

Yeah I kinda was to laid back when it actually could have been easier if I had settled down and done something about it. Instead I used what little time I had before first class in the morning or in the breaks actually so I could chill out when arriving home.

It was a dumb decision while I think about. Now to solve this, isn't of my greatest knowledge. I never managed to solve that problem my self. Though just to let you know. It's a death trap made by our own. And we'll need to settle a plan to make that bad habit into something we could just throw into the trashes.

Actually focus on school work is harder when your heading home. That's why I loved second class in what is it. College, I mean we'd had the chance doing our homework in class. But it was a very laid back year as well. Best times of school. O well getting over the actual subject.

[insert something cheerful here]

I understand perfectly. I'm socially shy, very nervous and I hate my voice too (though I don't have to sing).

OK, school. Heh, I was just telling my boyfriend that my A+ scores had gone down. I also procastinate a lot. Usually, I ground myself. If I tell my parents, they get mad and waste both my homework and break time arguing, so I save them their breath by nearly telling myself, "Go near that laptop and you'll regret it". Heck, I know it sounds crazy and stupid, but forcing yourself can help you get better self-control.

When in front of people, space out. I have been called to get recognitions and awards for being outstanding students in either Math or English almost every year during Honor Roll ceremonies. All I do is breath through my mouth without letting it show; when my blood rushes to my feet, I just curl my toes; and when I'm in stage, I either take off my glasses and make my vision blurry on purpose, or like I said, I space out and wait until they let me off the stage.

If you're giving a speech or presentation, pretend none of them are paying attention to you. Pretend you're in front your mirror. Don't worry about your voice; if you're in a choir, feel proud your voice is that beautiful and remember that, but don't brag or get egotastical.

Don't tell me what I can or can't do!

Wow, WE HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON. Ha ha. Anyway, let's start with your first problem. I have one idea you could try to use. Each day, make a schedule of what you have to do. And you must stick to it strictly. Though, you may have trouble to do the last part. I've tried it and it does help me a little. But you'll have to keep doing it and doing it till you can do all your things on time without a schedule. You should try that, I think it could work for most people. Just make sure you actually stick to it. That probably is the hardest part in my personal opinion.

Now, the second problem. I have no idea what to do. Ha ha. I am seriously the most shy person you could ever meet. I cannot talk to most people without stopping in my sentence and just laying my head down trying to get away. It really sucks. And class stuff too. I always try to be the last one because I just have no confidence in my work.
