To get this far, combatants needed luck and skill, quite likely a little of both. But it was crunch time... win or go down fighting. Getting this far into the tournament is an accomplishment to be proud of. "Jason and Rachel! Report to the ring! Your match will now begin!" |

Rachel scuffed her foot nervously against the ground as the gate shut behind her; she was anxious to see what her next opponent would be like and was beginning to have doubts as to her fighting aptitude. Besides, that rather interesting gate guard wasn't around this time. Funnily enough, that was what worried her the most, even though she wasn't aware of that fact. Psychologists would most likely remain stumped over this mind-boggling reflection of her inner psyche for decades. |

The orange hedgegog stepped into the arena, his gray and red jacket and pants rustling in the wind. Jason looked a his opponent. 'darn!!!' was his first thought as his mouth almost dropped open by suprise. Rachel was quite a vixen. Figuratively and literally. His opponent wore a blue dress and long white gloves that went up to her elbows. Her beauty reminded him of Kelsey. 'Kelsey.' He stopped thinking about Rachel as he was reminded of the girl he loved... Jason also remembered how she had encountered him outside the 'Inter-round Cafeteria as he headed toward this match: Flashback "Heya Kelsey-chan!" Jason started as the blue rabbit approached him. He soon stopped as he saw the look on her face: It was troubled. "What's wrong?" he asked, hesatintly. "Nothing." "Kelsey, you were always a horrible liar. Now tell me." "It's just... I dunno..." "Come on," Jason said grabbing her hand, "Let's talk.". "No!" She pulled her hand away. "What? Why...?" "I'm sorry, it's just..." Her eyes started to well up, "I'll see you later!". Jason watched as she ran off. Flashback Over Jason removed a golden heart-shaped locket from his chest pocket. The one Kelsey had given him before the tournament. "Here. Take this, use it to remember me while your away." She had told him. "I will..." Jason said silently to himself as he slid the chain around his neck. The orange hedgehog de-tached his Struggle Hammer from his belt and pointed it towards the white fox, "I swear, with all my heart, I SHALL DEFEAT YOU!". A feirce determination and devotion could be seen burning in Jason's eyes. A single tear left those eyes. ((OOC: This is my Bankai :bipolar: )) |

Rachel raised an eyebrow quizzically; none of her other opponents had been this... dramatic? Fanatical? The last two had at least engaged in light conversation and even the dragon, whose name she had learnt to be Malena ("Interesting name..." she had thought) had been polite enough to simply settle with attempting to roast her alive. Eyeing the hammer briefly, her optimistic nature wavered slightly, but popped back up, twice as bright as before. She leant back and widened her eyes as she held her palms up in a placating manner. "Suuuure, just calm down there, sport," she replied casually, "This isn't life and death here..." The new gate guard coughed. "Actually miss..." he began through the bars. "Hush hush," Rachel responded, waving one hand flippantly, "No-one in their right mind would kill someone over a friendly competition." |

"Rachel Harding..." Jason began, "I know all about you, I've been watching all your previous matches from the monitors in the Inter-Round Cafeteria thingy. So, your whole suprise grappling hook? It isn't a suprise anymore." Feeling confident that he had taken away her element of suprise, he lowered his weapon. "Though I have to admit; your not a bad fighter.... But I've seen better" Jason smirked. Jason then raised his struggle hammer, grabbed it with both hands to stady himself and discharged a lightning bolt from the very tip of it at the white fox. |

As the blast of energy crackled through the air, Rachels thoughts swirled like hurricane. Hey, wait, you can watch other people fighting? No-one ever told me that! Still, a lack of research never hurt anyone before... Right? How fast is lightning anyway? Oh, lightning... duh. Speed of light. Heh. Wait, OH CRAP! Even Rachel's 'lightning' reflexes weren't quite enough to get her clear of the attack; her heart skipped a beat and synapses buzzed painfully as the electricity coursed through her body and grounded itself into the ground at her feet. "Agh!" she gasped, staggering backwards and clutching her heart. Fighting off the aching sensation that filled her limbs with lead, the fox looked up and met her foe's eye again. "No," she thought to herself, "I've come this far, and I'm so not going to be taken down by some thunder god wannabe!" With reckless abandon, she dashed towards her opponent, sluggishly at first, but with growing speed as her systems began to null the pain of the shock. |

Jason's eyes widened as Rachel seemed to shake off his attack, 'Wow, she's tough... But I should know that from watching her matches right?'. The orange hedgehog smirked as he removed the spherical firecracker from his back pocket and hid it behind his back with his hand, while holding his Struggle Hammer in front of him with him. Then, with a war cry, he raised his hammer above his head and charged toward snowy-colored fox. He secretly activated the timed delay on the firecracker as he got within feet of her, '10... 9... 8... 7...'. |

"Guys... charge at them and they'll charge at you..." Rachel thought, "How predictable." In a sudden wave of reflection, Rachel realised she didn't actually have a plan. TickticktickticktickDING! OF COURSE! Rachel angled her approach to the left of her foe and drew her arm back slightly, as if to aim a punch at him. Then, with rapid spin, she dove abruptly to the right and let her hook whip out; the line would, theoretically, hit him in the chest, causing the grappling hook itself to wind around his torso and open him up to a further assault. Of course, there is a difference between theory and practise... |

Jason was caught off guard by rachel's sudden movements. Before he knew it, she had dove to his right and unleashed the grappling hook he had forgot all about in the heat of the moment. 'Crap. And I made sure to resarch her moves from the video.... How did I let this one sneak up on me?' He thought as the hook caught his jacket. 6... 5... |

Slamming her feet into the ground, Rachel jerked sharply on the line and tried to yank her opponent of his feet. A sudden though struck her as the line taughtened around Jason's chest; Hey, did i just wrap a line partially made of possibly conductive metal around someone who can hurl lightning? |

Just as Rachel began to feel the rope pulling on her foe, another shock hit her. In convulsive reaction, her fingers clenched around the line even tighter, her knuckles turning white beneath her fur. She collapsed to the ground, the line still held fimrly in her hands, as the electricity washed through her. Despite the agony, Rachel forced herself to think, to move, to cry out in pain, to do anything if it meant letting go. Willing herself to let go of the rope, she managed to loosen her grip just enough to let it slide from her hands and fall uselessly to the ground. She let out an explosive breath. The metal wire glowed a bright white, which dimly reminded the fox of another instance of super-heated grappling lines... This in turn reminded her to observe her hands; the gloves, once again, had holes burnt into them, and her palms smoked slightly from burns. She lay there for a moment, nothing really registering properly. "I've come so far," she thought, "And I've been defeated, surely... How can you fight that which you cannot evade? Is such a thing possible? "No... I've got to keep trying... I may not be invulnerable, but I'll give it everything I've got... a dramatic re-entrance... should do the trick..." Even slower than before, and this time shaking violently, Rachel stood back up and gave her foe a frail grin. "Ha..." she croaked, "My grandmother's... got more spark than that..." |

"Ha..." she croaked, "My grandmother's... got more spark than that..." 3... "Please... we'll see who's laughing in a second..." was Jason's reply as he put his blue goggles over his eyes. 2... The hedgehog then sprinted towards Rachel while re-attaching his weapon to his belt and switched the firecracker to his right hand. 1... When Jason was within a foot of her he cocked his arm back and attempted to shove the firecracker into the white fox's face as it was about to explode, "FALCOWN PAAAAAAAWNCH!!!". He knew the attack would damage him as well, but he was a little to concerned to even give that a spare thought. |

Alrighty, just two matches to judge this round, shouldn't take TOO terribly long. =P Looks like a close one though. Jason Fair Play: You did take a few blows, made sure you didn't force a reaction from your opponent as well. Not much to say outside of that. 10/10 Grammar: There was just the occasional spelling error and capitalization error, but all in all, it wasn't too bad. 9/10 Entertainment Value: Those flashbacks you always throw in at the beginning give an added dimension to your character, and that's a plus. Aside from that, not the most thrilling fight in the world, but still interesting. 8/10 Total: 27/30 Rachel Fair Play: Pretty much the same as Jason in this regard. 10/10 Grammar: Overall, very nicely written. Just one or two errors that I could see. In other words, not flawless, but still very good. 9.5/10 Entertainment Value: Hehe, I've always liked Rachel's interaction with the gate guards. You put quite a bit of detail into your posts, and I enjoyed reading them. 9/10 Total: 28.5/30 Pretty interesting fight, did have it's suspense. Too bad we never got to see what that firecracker did. =P |
