What I'm about to say isn't funny, but I once was writing a post for a fanfic and I had already been planning what to write since it was my story. I spaced out but wrote the paragraph like I wanted to, despite the grammar mistakes.

Did you know that auto writing is actually a form of ESP similar in operation to Ouija boards? It's true; you may have had a flash of psionic ability. Wowzaa with psi-powers; now that's a scary thought. :D

Check out my tumblr, Aggravated Anime-Adoring Australian, where I post all sorts of dumb screencaps and MS Paint edits and generally bitch and moan about stupid otaku shit.

I find myself writing completely different words than what I intended to write, or leaving out words when I know I thought them as I was writing.
Like, in the sentence "I already the whole tank." I didn't typo that originally, but it's a nice example.
Or, I'll write "there's gun(instead of "gotta") be" or "You need to take a chant(instead of chill) pill."

>> I think I brain damage.

Sorry for my ridiculously long posts all the time! 8P

I don't know if this qualifies, but once I wrote a set of character profiles for my characters, and then I looked back at a set I wrote in the past, and I discovered I'd written the two profile sets with the exact same template!

Just curious, how does one go about triggering this phenomenon?

EDIT: I actually found an article about automatic writing on wikipedia. If you want to read it, just click on this link.

Well, I highly doubt automatic writing has anything to do with supernatural forces. It's mostly from a person's subconscious. It's like if their minds at two places at the same time. You try thinking about something but want to right something else and that can mess things up, for exmple.

I read that thing on wikipedia, and according to it, automatic writing seems to be derived from past memories floating around in someone's subconscious that comes to the surface involuntarily while they're writing. It doesn't exactly put it that way in the article, but that's how I see it!

Although that's probable, it doesn't always has to be about past memories.

If you're like, for example, trying to write a fanfic but are talking with someone on the phone, you might unvoluntarily, without even noticing that you touched the keyboard, write part of your conversation on the computer.

It may also occur via muscle memory, when your brain rehearses the stroke needed to write a certain, frequently used word and replaces the stroke of a similar, less used word with the more common one.

For instance, you don't consciously spell out words such as "the" or "cat" when writing them, but if you wanted the write something like "there" or "cap" you may subconsciously write one of the former two words.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It has happened to me a few tiimes, which is why I was constantly editing my chapters on my fanfic to eliminate grammar errors.
