Warning: Potential spoiler plot mechanism enclosed All right, I've read the Terminator 3 derivative novel "Terminator Dreams" by Aaron Allston. The main idea is that a man in the future during the War against the government made (and out of control) SKYNET A.I somehow can transmit information into the past through his past self. For example, he has his past self bury a cache of items that would be useful to the future Resistance. They find the cache exactly where he said it would be. I've been debating on using a similar mechanism for Cy-Fox in the transmission of data about the G.U.N attack and the armor suit from future Tails to past Tails, before the attack. Discuss. |

Huh, seems pretty heavy, Doc. Not a bad plot device, but as playing devil's advocate here, I got this: As I see it, if the information in question is about the recipient's fate in the future, and the recipient is unaccepting, it could plausibly create a time paradox, may very well set the recipient to diverge from his future fate. Of course, the attempt to avoid said fate may very well be what brings the recipient to that end, but... It's not easy thinking fourth-dimensionally when playing devil's advocate. |
| Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk. | |

For something like this to work, you'd need a temporal conduit to the past self. Some kind of acceleration node inside the drive that could cause the data to exist at all points of the drive's existence would probably be in order, but then we're getting into temporal/electronic mechanics and that's just plain complicated. Another idea would be to simply 'remove' the drive from the temporal flux, thus causing it's 'present' self to be the only self to exist at any point in time, but again that's not such an easy procedure. Perhaps if you slowed down the transmission of the data to the recieving drive enough that it travels backwards through time (outrageous, I know...)? |

Well, here's something for you as another example of information transmitted to the past from the future. One Two First example causes a necessary circle, while the second example, a certain fate is successfully avoided. |

Oh that's right; in Stargate SG-1, directing a wormhole through a solar flare sends it backwards in time. The whole 'Ninth Chevron' theory... Can't believe I forgot that one. I need to watch that series again, I'm getting rusty. |
