You are never quite the person you think you are
All right so my friend is a having trouble. She has a few roomates, which is fine with me, but they wont pay her any rent. They just say "I dont have the money right now, cant I just stay a while till I work up the money" And if she asks them they should pay, they say "Well, you signed the contract." And if she goes a step farther, they say "But, I have no where to go, you wont kick me out, will you, and then puppy eyes. :Grrr:

I also know they have the money, because some of the roommates I know. But I might want to close connections with those people. >:(

To top it off, shes blaming me because I told here she could afford a flat if she had roomates that payed part of the rent.

I think shes too nice! What should she do? What should I do! Should I talk to them myself!? Please help!

I still can't use this.

Your friend has one of two choices:

a) If they are on the lease, sue them down to the last second they lived there without paying.

b) If they aren't on the lease, kick them out. They have absolutely no right to be there.

It goes without saying that these guys are an unreliable bunch of freeloaders, but I'm just as disappointed in your friend for not standing up for herself. I understand that she considers them her friends, but by the same token, you sometimes have to sever ties in order to lead a healthy life. She's letting them run all over her, and the habit will keep costing her later in life.

So, my advice: Keep talking to her and inspire her to get over whatever emotional attachments she has with these bums. Let it be known that she doesn't have to take such crap from anyone. She needs to gather the courage to tell them that they either need to pay up or get out. It's that simple.

Christmas is back again

Alas Bliz have already made it's true point. Need to stand up for what she's able to. If you rent an apartment together with friends. It's easier to pay since it will be less expensive. I would say to her friends. Get a job, or else just leave back home. Apparently she is able to take care of bills while they live on carefree money.

Send them home, find some new room mates able to help out by paying the bills and from there, new friends appear with something more then just loaning on their mind. Sickens me, that someone needs to pay for someone else. Even i need to pay home since i still live here. Shudders, but that's just the beginning. A small taste on how real life is.

Once more, they don't seem to learn what saving up a few coins. O_o

Well, the roommates are obviously well aware that they're falling behind on rent. So it shouldn't be a shocker if she decides to kick them out. They've been given plenty of warning.

Although I think kicking them out right from the start is a bit extreme. Her goal here is to get the rent out of them...and she can't do that if they're kicked out. Is there anything else your friend can take away from them if they don't pay their rent? Anything she can use as leverage over them?

Maybe she could ask them to give up all their keys to her...so that only she can go into and leave the room when she wants. When they get tired of the inconvenience of being stuck outside when the door is locked, maybe then they'll pay up.

But she shouldn't be afraid to sever a friendship over this. Like others have said, sometimes it's the best solution to the problem.

I know what it's like to have a freeloading friend. I used to help one cheat and copy my notes at school throughout the 10th grade, until one day, we got caught and I got a C in a class I would have gotten an A in, had it not been for him. I ended our friendship that day, and it was the best decision I could have made in those circumstances. It was a good learning experience too. I'm far less likely to let others take advantage of my kindness now.

Haha, if shes goes to kick them out, I bet the money would appear rather quickly.
Seriously you can't have people taking advantage like that, its just out of order. Get her confront them, and just tell them "Sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you to leave"
They'll either leave, and she'll be free of that problem, or the rent money will magically appear.
