Part 1-The Game
Not many knew this but a long time ago, Sega of Japan was gonna release Sonic Xtreme for Sega Saturn! The gameplay was just like Sonic R and the Layouts were similar to Sonic Rivals! However game production of the game stopped and the released date was cancelled! Why? The Freedom Fighters! Yes, in Sonic game history they were gonna be playable comic characters, however this was a big mistake that Sega of Japan made!

Part 2-Copyright Crap
However the Freedom Fighters are owned by Archie comics, so it is possible that Sega of Japan faced a lawsuit becuase of that, they probably went ahead and cancelled it! However some of ya'll might be thinkin, "why the heck the Freedom Fighters made cameos in Sonic Spinball bonus stage"or"How come American TV Sonic characters, Scratch & Grounder, are in Mean Bean Machine?" Well that's about to be answered next!

Part 3-Japan VS U.S
Well the Freedom Fighters,Scratch,Grounder and the comic, Dr.Robotnik, are all American Sonic characters and are owned by Sega of AMERICA! Also note that Sonic Spinball and Mean Bean Machine, were not made by Yuji Naka, but by team of Americans @ Sega of America! And though they both Sega, "Why can't Japan do the same with the US Sonic characters?" Again, Sega of Japan and U.S have minds of their own and act like rivals! (Which reminds me of the Sonic CD soundtrack debate!)

Part 4-Conclusion
Though this game was ready to be released (The box-art and even screenshots, were avalible) it was cancelled! And for now on, all Sonic Games are made by Yuji Naka and the Sonic Team! (which explains why we haven't seen a Sonic CD 2 by Naoto Oshima yet!) Anyway, I hope this piece of sonic info was cool! I know A LOT when it comes to Sonic Betas and Prototypes!

I still can't use this.

XD Edited your posts as we really don't allow for triple-plus posting here, especially if all you have to say can be easily fitted in one post or you're bumping just for attention. Remember, edit buttons are our friends.

Anyways, I don't believe in the copyright fluff at all. Nothing's ever been mentioned of it in any of the articles I've read before. Also, because the comic is controlled just as much by Sega as it is Archie, I'm sure they let the characters in the game without any legal hassles. In fact, I think Sega may actually even own copyrights over the characters, and not necessarily Archie.

Also, I don't believe that SoA can hold exclusive copyrights from the rest of the company; they are part of Sega as a whole. After all, SoJ themselves still have quite an iron grip over the comic and will stomp down on anything they deem as too OOC for the characters. I'm also a little iffy on SoA and SoJ's relationship at this point in time. There's been no obvious dealings recently to suggest that they're still on bad terms like they were before. They seem neutral now.

I do agree that serious American bias played a major role in the game's demise, however. That was pretty obvious when Yuji Naka snatched the NiGHTS engine from under the team's nose.

I'm not snapping on you; just giving you a heads-up about what is and isn't allowed here. Besides, I easily remedied the problem by merging your posts, so no harm done.

Please, please, please don't confuse a friendly reminder as someone being crabby. I didn't warn you, after all. XP

And no problem. Believe me, the presence of Archie characters was the least of this game's worries. The American team was young, inexperienced, and well, American. Since part of the Japanese division, including Naka himself, moved to America in '01, I'm sure that eased a bit of the tension. If anything, SoE has been suffering from general neglect by both parties, especially since their acclaimed racing division shut down awhile ago. They have more to be mad about than anybody.

Lava Reef Act 2
It was Yuji Naka who threatened to leave the team if the game wasn't cancelled.
