What this group is This is a group for good-hearted grammarians who genuinely want to help their fellow members attain a greater command of the English language. Members are expected to be polite, courteous, and humble. Recommended activity for members is as follows: 1. Create grammar/writing guides. Here, basic rules of grammar, elemental principles of style, or anything relating to good writing may be reviewed. References/links to particularly useful style/grammar books or websites should be included in these "guides." 2. Be a writing mentor. Members are expected to be available to anyone who needs help with their writing. 3. Be an example to the board. All members are encouraged post to the utmost of their ability. I'm open to other recommendations. What this group is not This is not the confluence for a bunch of arrogant asses who think they're better than everyone else because they have better grammar. Members may not, as has been done previously, correct members who speak incorrectly. Such is hypocritical; no one has perfect grammar. Leave the staff's job to the staff. If the grammar of a member is so damnable that it detracts from the thread and breaks the rules, use the report button. People have good grammar because they choose to work at it--it matters to them. If that's the case with you and me, that's great! We will be good communicators. We will not force our will on the rest of the board, however. We will not persecute, humiliate, or otherwise hurt anyone whose standards are different than our own. We are a resource for people, a servant-type group that is here to help budding grammarians, not a Nazi group here to shoot those who don't care. Anyone who abuses their role as a GCC operative will receive a PM from me, and a tick on their record. Three ticks, and you are ejected from the commission, and are reported directly to Miles, who will not be lenient. This group is here to provide helpful resources to people who want to improve their English. We are NOT here to make people disinterested in grammar follow the rules anyway. Yeah I was pretty tired when I first moved this, I just wanted to find at least a slightly more appropriate area to put it for the time being. You seem to be quite the leading figure of the Realm so if you want it there just say so and I will have it moved quickly. ^^ |
