Miss Shadow aka "The Shadowess"
Genetically speaking, the Sonic anthros (Sonic, Amy, Shadow, etc) are already human-animal crosses. If Sonic were a real hedgehog, he`d be the size of Eggman`s hand. But he isn`t as tall as a human due to the hedgehog genes. He can roll into a ball like a hedgehog but he can also bend backwards like a human. He has abilities from both species. As someone emtnioned earlier about centaurs and all that, the Sonic crew are already crosses. So human-animal relationships don`t bother me, in THIS context.

If you want to look at it in another way, it also kind of teaches a lesson that most people still need to learn, that you need to look past appearances and pay attention to the personality of an individual before you pass judgement on them. Sonic doesn`t like Eggman, Eggman`s a human. Sonic gets along with Elise well, Elise is human. He concentrated on what these people were like, not what species they are. Then there`s the whole Shadow-Maria/Shadow-all-other-humans thing.

My quick input is all...

Sonics a cartoon character, so of course its not specified whether hes closer to human or animal. The words anthro have never even been used in Sonic. So you can't back up him up with laws, if you don't know what your dealing with.

Also, I think theres the large factor of Amy that we've ignored. She's been Sonics canon love interest since 1993. Thats a long time, and to just do this, I think must of been a huge kick in the teeth for a good bunch of fans.

I agree with Bliz. Sonic fans shouldn't have gone "bestiality" but they couldve gone "omg sonic kissing a girl=WTF!?!?!?"

Yeah that scene sucked. If Sonic kisses anyone, it should be amy.

Sonic + Human = Failure

Nuff said. Sonic can have any animal creature human-like thing he wants, but no real human please.

What makes you think humans are above animals? Theyre only accomplishment is first to create the spaceship. Take it from a Martian.

Whether the word has been used or not is irrelevant. Sonic is definitely an example of the "attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behavior to... animals. " I can rightfully call him an anthro until the cows come home because that's what he is.

And if I don't know what he is and thus can't defend him, that logically means you can't offend him and this entire argument is pointless. Really, my opinions are just as valid as yours because we're all on equal ground. Trying to nullify mine just because destroys your own opinion as well.

Oh, please. Amy is not and never has been Sonic's love interest. He doesn't reciprocate her annoying come-ons so there is no couple-- as Naka himself made very clear-- nor are there actually any other official couples within the games in the first place. Overall, SonAmy fans' opinion about it is irrelevant. You can't kick someone in the teeth for imaginary reasons, and if you do you're just heartless, but I'd like to think Sega is a little more fuzzier inside than that.

That is evolution.

Actually, the only thing we have going for us is "intelligence" or "sentience". That's the only thing that truly separates us from the beasts- that, and oposable(sp?) thumbs.

And the Sonic crew has both. =/

Then why on earth, if the Sonic series is absent of relationships, did we see a development between Sonic and Elise the whole way through Sonic 06.

As for the Amy part. Part of that relationship, is the hope from fans, that maybe one day Amy will attract Sonic, even if it never happens, people have hope. Then to see Elise just waltz in. It makes that entire relationship built on hope redundant.

Also, if Christopher Robin (from Winnie the poo) was to have an intimate moment with Kanga, does anyone think that would go down well.
Having a 10 month old baby in your house does make you think sometimes.

Just to say this, is Sonic is anthropomorphic, which would mean he's a humanoid hedgehog. HUMANOID hedgehog. Need I say more? He's basically another breed of human when you think about it. He's as smart as a human, he's got hands, arms, legs, feet, for god's sake he's got shoes and gloves. Why can't he be with a human?

I didn't say the series was absent of relationships. I said the series was absent of couples which I don't consider Sonic and Elise. I consider them friends, not lovers.

And I already went on record to describe Sonic and Elise's development in the very first post:
OP

From a more sensible viewpoint, she seems to confide in Sonic a lot because he's actually worth it. He saved her not only from certain doom but from the severe mental rut that came with being a princess dealing with Eggman's nonsense, being orphaned at an early age, and charged with not crying ever again lest she wanted to release Armageddon. That's a considerable burden for a 17 year old girl to bear, and Sonic's presence reforms her life and attitude as he does with nearly every other character he's come into contact with. Sonic himself is a mere catalyst for good things to happen to unfortunate people, which is what the whole point of the friendship was.

It should have been rendered redundant when Yuji Naka himself said that Sonic would never be attracted to Amy romantically. Again, their hope is irrelevant to this argument because Sega has made it clear that any romantic inclinations between Sonic and Amy are from Amy only and are used primarily for comedic effect. If those two were actually together, I'd take this point a bit more seriously.

Ignoring the facts that Christopher Robin is too immature physically and mentally to even know what a romantic relationship involves and the Pooh and Sonic universes are radically different, the problem with that is that Kanga is a doll. All of the original Winnie The Pooh characters are dolls only given life by Christopher's imagination. They're not alive, and thus the point is moot unless you want to delve deeper into the lovely topic of fetishes.

I really think it's quite idiotic and hypocritical for humans to go "Ewww" all the sudden when interspecies coupling comes up and at the same time we're running an active search for extraterrestrial life. Inevitably, when extraterrestrials make contact, the human nature of curiosity itself is going to fling out the first coupling. If they're intelligent, empathetic and peaceful, why should there be a problem? If we start making this kind of stuff the new Scarlet Letter, then we're committing one of the worst intellectual crimes in history.

No matter how much similarities he has to a human, he is not one... this isn't our world, humans don't play a large factor in Sonic's world, in fact, very small. It's all based on humanoid animals like you said.

Sonic doesn't belong with a human, he's still an animal even if he acts somewhat like a human.

I don't see how you can classify Sonic as an animal. Animal usually refers to a lifeform that is sub-human in physiology, intelligence and empathy. As you can see, Sonic and company can walk and talk and also (Tails) one can fly on their own (which requires above human physiology and intelligence), and also engage in telepathy (Silver, and again, requires above human physiology and intelligence). They have an understanding of the environment they occupy and other variables and lifeforms within that environment and most importantly, they can feel emotions. As I've mentioned before, it is my belief that it is more fitting and accurate to classify them as extraterrestrial lifeforms (note that Shadow the Hedgehog was not known as the Ultimate Hedgehog or Ultimate Animal, but the Ultimate Lifeform).

Sure, they may look like the animals we know on Earth, but as we know, looks do not determine everything in the world. If it did, we would have destroyed ourselves years and years ago.

I'm just curious but, did he actually say Sonic would never be attracted to Amy romantically? All I've heard is that he said they'd never actually hook up, or get married canonically, because he felt it was more Amy's style to always chase Sonic. (Or something to that effect.)
It's actually been stated by SEGA that Sonic is infact interested in Amy and that he's just too shy to admit it. Proven by a scan from Disney Adventure I believe.

Otherwise though, I'm in agreement with everything you've said in this topic. I'm a firm SonAmy fan, but I also really enjoyed Sonic and Elise's relationship throughout the game. Personally I only saw it as a platonic relationship canonically (though I certainly don't mind fanworks that take it further), and even if there was something more from Elise's end, I don't think romance ever even crossed Sonic's mind once throughout their whole time together. As has already been mentioned, it can't really even be considered bestiality, since I certainly didn't see anything sexual happen between either of them. It was just a simple kiss. I've certainly seen a fair amount of people kiss their pet dogs and cats, and no one ever pulled them up over that.

Anyway more to the point of the topic, I'm with the people who see no problem with a human-mobian relationship. (Seriously you should see my full Sonic series shipping list. ;P In my mind, most people only see it as wrong because of the rules of society that we've been brought up with, and it's a similar case with homophobia.
To me, if two beings love each other and can both consent to the act, then bring on the love, baby~ <33
