I do not know whether this thread should be posted here, or whether it shouldn't be posted at all, but this needs to be noticed. Lately (since I came back,) I've seen plenty of familiar faces come to Sonic Blast (from Sonic Turbine, or MG. I have noticed the type of vocabulary that has arised. I see part of the evidence to this... inappropiate vocvabulary, for example, is the fact that some people are taking advantage of the high defenition smilies. For example, the thread Y HALO THAR made when he migrated from Sonic Turbine, to this location, turned from an inappropiate hello, to one of the most sexually worded conversations I have read on Sonic Blast. >_> I might have a realy awkward sense of humor, and sometimes I dont take certain fights seriously, but certian things are blaintly obvious that it has gone too far.  Ever since the whole ban-zooka fiasco with 3 or 4 people being banned in the same month of time (Princess Sonia O_o , Mega Hyper Shadow, and this other person that was begging us to ban him,) not only has the ban rate on SB increase dramatically over the past 6 months, but people don't seem to read rules, or take advantage of them. I also have noticed this 10 year old getting banned from this forum. I remember, It was early 07, or Late 06, something like that, I joined the, obsredly offensive, Middle Ground forums. I was banned from there after 2 months, due to unfair assumption. My ex-girlfriend (FlareTH) Joined the Middle ground on my computer, and i navigated her across the forum. Then, somehow, the team suspected the Flare was me with two accounts, and asked me something that I didn't even get the time to read or answer, without getting banned. I read the MG comics still and found out what they asked me, thanks to the school computers having a different IP adress, but soon gained a slight hatred for the Middle Ground. :Crazy: Sure, I made a big mistake joing a forum like that at a pre-mature age, but I still find it incredibly insulting today, and I'm 13 years old. What my story has to do with this, is the fact that this inappropiate content has came from one badly influenced forum (MG), and another forum which allows certain words to be typed acrross to others such as "fapping." >_> To sum it up, just because forums come from very similar websites, dosen't mean the rules are the same. Read the rules reguardless what forum it is, and if the forums are on the same website, still, read the rules. Please. :/ If this thread gets closed, or deleted, or I get warned, I don't mind, I just try, not force.

That's nice to hear, if you checked the recent announcements you'll notice that a member of staff posted about it.
People weren't being dealt with a lot, they got "a get out of jail free card" all the time. Of course the staff were given a course in "how to enforce rules", I know that, I requested it. Blame me if you have a problem with ban-happy staff members. A mature forum was requested & rejected because some people thought all it would have is sexual content, which it would, in fact if there was a mature forum then maybe we wouldn't have so much complaints now. |

Yeah, I agree, this is the worst forum I have been to in terms of inappropiate language. Unfortunately, I'm not an admin or mod running it, they clearly allow it because I brought it up before and it hasn't stopped. And what in turn happens? People yell at me instead... I wouldn't call us the worst by any means.. And Shakou I hear what you are saying and I understand your concerns, we will not let this site become a pit like that place you described and the ban level means that WE HAVE BEEN doing our job. Understand that there are bound to ALWAYS be people who will try and corrupt a forum with language e.t.c. and we do all we can to keep everything stable.. If we "allowed it" as Ray said, then this site would be hundreds of times worse by now.. understand that we generally cannot identify a threat until it first presents itself.. so if a new member were to join and start trashing the place then at that time are we able to do something about it. Also, don't worry about warns or bans, your point is valid and you weren't flaming and all of the "inappropriate words" in your post were used merely as quoted examples so I see no fault here. Please have faith in your Mods and Admins, I believe we are a very competent bunch and can keep Sonic Blast in the green. |

Oh boy you should see Sonic Turbine. <3 They actually let us say the words that get bleeped here. Actually, we barely about Sonic over there ._. But personally, I still think this forum should not be a forum for little kids. Next, the forum will have a commercial, advertising to kids who watch Nickelodeon or Disney or something. Oh and I still vote for a mature section but because of one person when everybody else agreed, we couldn't have it. But that one person is an admin so we didn't really stand a chance ;_;

Actually I do go to a few others, it's just apparent the others are more mature than this one (no offense). If they're inappropriate, they have a spot to be inappropraite in where I don't have to hear it, but generally all the others I've been to stay on-topic in the regular forums. This forum should have it's own spot for inappropriate language becaus ethen it will stop the flow of language inti the regular forums and thus be fine. My bad, not the worst inappropriate forum, but it's not charming, and not great. But this topic has come up twice before, and it's apparent the staff hasn't changed much... Having a spot to be inappropriate doesn't guarantee anything. A mature section on this board will ultimately be decided by Metallix.. and he has already decided against it at least for the time being. People who swear and type/speak strongly will surely do it in that part of the boards but it is unlikely that it would stay there. There is no place on the internet that is safe from the world, that's right.. THE WORLD. Language that some may not like is pretty much apart of the mainstream... everything nowadays and whether or not people like it, the language will always be there and will always pop up on every public site.. especially forums.. on the net. If you ever see a post that you don't like PLEASE report it since it helps us do our jobs since there aren't enough of us to watch every active topic constantly.. think of yourself as a good citizen, calling 911 on a guy stealing a purse from an old lady.. the faster you call.. the sooner we can respond and save the day. |

Sonic is aimed at kids. The older fans are from the older games, who liked Sonic as kids. So, obviously kids are gonna go on here. It's wierd, I joined SSMB as my first forum and only got warned once, yet they KNEW the fact I was only 10. |

On a personal note(I'd like to add, these are my views and not necessarily those of the other =SB= staffers) : I disagree with the insane amount of bans we've had over the last six months. We've begun keeping records with regards to warn levels, something that needed to be done quite badly. In terms of actual bans, well we can usually back up why with a long list of verbal and actual warns. On this board, you have to be a serial spammer, poster of inappropriate material and create fake accounts, or just repeatedly break the rules. And if you're stupid enough to do something that warrants an insta-ban with your very first post, then you deserve to be on somewhere like MG. As to why this shouldn't be a kids forum, well.... tough. Sonic was originally a kid's thing, it stayed a kid's thing and is still a kid's thing. The main problem is some people who've been a fan for years think the hedgehog should grow up with them - Sega have tried to work on this as best as possible whilst still attracting new players to the series. Hence some of the more wacky storylines coming up. I'm an older member - I'm 25 - and I have my views on this subject, that can be read elsewhere. I also have my views on the rules of this forum - I believe we should have a mature content section - but dammit, just because I don't agree 100% doesn't mean I won't obey them or enforce them. Long and short of it - this isn't your forum to dictate what sort of member base we should be trying to attract. You want something for more mature peeps, with mature content such as bad language and suchlike? GO AWAY THEN, and find somewhere else. Sonic Blast has become successful due in part to the way it's aimed towards potential members. We attract a lot of kids that can't fit in elsewhere. If you want to break rules, if you wanna talk about "rude stuff" or other crap, if you really want something not directed towards a younger audience, then please, bugger off. This clearly is NOT the place for you, and just because a few of you have turned up out of the blue to wage war on our way of running a forum, it doesn't mean we're going to change. |

I am probably the nicest admin on here. Or at least what i thought until i warned Big Z. Then i was like the meanest admin of them all. It's the matter of how strong my decision is. Apparently i might not stand as the brightest charging any members into the wall for excessive use of inappropriate language. But if i due find anyone flaming or bashing as well with other rules i won't just ignore it. |
