Tails was born with a second tail that allowed him to fly around. His newfound ability to fly as well as his high intelligence level would however make him a social outcast and the butt of jokes of those his age. Things would get even worse for him though, when Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik destroyed the first human colony on Mobius with a nuclear missile in 2024. His parents had died there when Amadeus was requested to meet with the Canadian Space Agency liason there. Tails decided to pack his things and moved out to the Mystic Ruins. There, he met his first true friend, Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic was fighting against Eggman, who was trying to gain a foothold on the ground to create his own Empire, and Tails helped Sonic with his knowledge of mechanics and aerobatics several times. This helped propell the fox to near-fame as he was employed by the United States Air Force on the behalf of the North American Aerospace Defense taskforce (NORAD) when he was 14 to help purge an Eggman-made computer virus. He would return to the attention of the Air Force the next year, when Eggman began a large-scale robotic assault on the human peacekeeping forces on Mobius. Tails was granted a enlisted commission by the Air Force by special Congressional order and became the first non-human and youngest member of the U.S military. He would be transferred to Space Colony ARK to help dismantle and study captured Eggman robots. It was on the ARK where Tails thrived the most. With the advanced technologies and research material available, Tails was able to make technological leaps in weaponry. He was also helpful in interpeting electronic intelligence. But his biggest claim to fame on the station was saving the life of Maria Robotnik, the granddaughter of the ARK's Shadow project's lead scientist, Gerald Robotnik. An E-series robot (later classified as E-102 Gamma) had gotten loose from a lab and was going on a rampage. With its energy weapons disabled, it had opted to physically batter several people. It had gotten ahold of Maria and had nearly bludgoned her to death, had Tails not appeared to take the hit. He held the machine off until he blacked out and the robot was subdued by security. When Tails woke up, he found that he wasn't just a recipient of the Purple Heart, but also the recipent of Maria's attention and love. They would be unseperable. For a year at most. Ivo Robotnik knew that the Guardian Unit of Nations, a special operations arm of the Department of Homeland Security, did not like some of the experiments going on at Space Colony ARK. He exploited their intelligence network and fed in falsified data about the Shadow Project, with the intent of using G.U.N to wipe it out (knowing it was bad enough dealing with ONE hedgehog). G.U.N had boarded the station in mid-2032 and had started to systematically wipe everything on the station out. Military police and security officers alike were cut down. Some prisoners were taken but it was mainly a massacre. Maria and Tails, tasked with getting the Shadow prototype off the ARK, were hunted all the way to the escape pod array, where Tails held them at gunpoint with his sidearm, a Colt 1911A1 .45 automatic. G.U.N overpowered him and he ended up getting shot several times, ultimately blacking out. Maria Robotnik was killed but Shadow was released from the station. When Tails regained conciousness to his astonishment, he was neither dead or imprisoned. He was in his own lab with E-102 Gamma. Gamma, after his reprogramming, was given a special order that was much like the Asimov First Law of Robotics ('A robot may not harm a sentient being, nor may a robot alow a sentient being to come to harm indirectly'). Detecting the drop in Tails' vital signs wirelessly, the robot had waited for G.U.N to slip out and retrieved the fox, performing basic first aid. It wouldn't be enough though. Tails had very serious injuries, including spinal damage. He gave E-102 Gamma a set of final instructions and ultimately flatlined and was technically dead. E-102 Gamma placed Tails into cryogenic suspension and began to carry out the fox's plans. He hacked into a government databank and found where the technical data behind the failed Omni Consumer Products Corporation's RoboCop unit was stored. Copying the data, Gamma then rendered and modified the materials neccessary to fit Tails. He then brought Tails out of suspension and surgically implanted him with the modified cybernetic systems. After Tails 'came back', he finished the remainder of the operations and began his new life. He started by retrieving his air vehicles from the Mobius Mystic Ruins through Gamma and also began creating clones of Gamma, known as a T-102 Delta (D for Drone). He also observed Eggman activity on Earth and Mobius and personally intervened in several instances. He helped Sonic the Hedgehog defeat the Chaos creature at Station Square and also helped shut down the Eclipse Cannon on the ARK and then helped Shadow the Hedgehog (indirectly) use the Cannon to destroy the Black Comet After Shadow finished off the Comet, Tails revealed himself to the hedgehog, triggering further memories of the past. He asked Shadow to join him in a personal mission to alter the past in order to save the ARK. Shadow agreed and handed over the Chaos Emeralds. Tails revealed that he had modified the ARK's high-energy physics lab in order to create a time displacement unit, and the unit required the Emeralds Shadow had to generate enough energy to set off the reaction necessary to propel them to the past. However the energy surge attracted Eggman, and also Sonic and his remaining friends. Eggman wanted to exploit the machine to reverse Sonic's victories against him. He was defeated. Then Sonic turned on Tails, afraid of the effects that Tails' changes could have on history. The two fought and ultimately Tails won, seriously wounding Sonic. Triumphant, Tails and Shadow entered the displacement area and waited for the machine to fully charge. Amy Rose however, would not let them get off easily. She damaged the computer that determined where they would end up, and ultimately displaced them into another timeline. |
