The game is made of win. The speed sections are highly enjoyable, a blast to control and further deepened with the ability to perform various tricks. While the game is knocked for not devoting extra attention to the speed sections, I've found that the other two modes undeserving of their rep. The treasure hunting sections are a lot more easier to play and navigate due to a better radar and larger levels to move about. There is nothing really wrong with the shooting sections, but nothing glamourous about them either. It's the weakest mode, but not anything game-breaking. The story is top-notch; very well written, and the soundtrack is extremely diverse and of high quality. It would be Sonic Team's ultimate achievement to top this game.

I've never played SA2 or Shadow, but one that comes to mind would be sonic heroes. They didn't try too hard on the story, so its really just perfect. Theres no moments where you think "now why would you want to do that". Plus, gameplay = great. Theres no treasure hunts or other types of gameplay your not that interested in. It was all proper sonic levels, with a proper sonic feel to it. Plus, there were no humans in Sonic Heroes, and that for me, was perfect. It also allows you to have to collect all the emeralds to complete the final story, which was actually pretty fun, and if I remember correctly, it had more the levels than any 3D sonic I can think of. Since there was 7 zones, each with 2 acts and a boss. Most Sonic titles today just bother with 1 act and a boss. Plus, i think all of the areas were better thought through. I mean, in the jungle level, you get chased a crocodile. (Original idea i think) whilst swinging along vines, and its not like that dolphin thing is SA where you don't do anything. In this you gotta make each swing perfect, which makes much more fun, and rewarding if you actually do it. Actually, thinking about it, Sonic Heroes definitely. In fact, I'm off to buy a copy now.

Plus she's like Mr T in that due to the Law of Sheer Awesomeness, she can beat the crap out of anyone she wishes (downing an Egg Fort singlehandedly is a prime example of her awesome factor).
