Day of Silence Boycott

For those who don't know: The Day of Silence is a day in which gay, lesbian, transsexual and whoever else wants to participate do not speak to bring attention to the harrassment and abuse so many of them recieve.

Quote:

This year, the American Family Association (AFA) called for a boycott of the Day of Silence. This boycott requests that parents keep their children home from school on the day in order to discourage schools from allowing the Day of Silence to take place. In a protest against this boycott, I am joining hundreds of others across the country in extending the Day of Silence to an entire WEEK of Silence. Thank you for understanding the reasons for my silence this week.

Just from a PM on Facebook, but I don't doubt it. How ridiculous is that? Heaven forbid we have children who are more accepting than their parents. :U

Yes, parents are really stupid to boycott this.
At the same time though, gay, lesbian and transsexual people are stupid to do this "Day of Silence". They do what they want, end. I couldn't care less of this day. Real problems are others.

Note: At the same time, it's stupid to be discriminating gay, lesbian and transsexual people . =D

Well, personally, I think it's stupid that they do a day of silence and not take any other action...

But at the same time, I wasn't quite talking about the subject matter, just the fact that parents are trying to force their kids to boycott something like this. I dunno, it seemed kinda dumb to me, to have a fit about people having a day of silence.

A day of silence doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Maybe because there are days when I don't talk anyway.

I never had any teachers who acknowledged the day, so I don't know why the parents are getting their panties in a knot.

Don't tell me what I can or can't do!

Dude, I like never heard of this day. XD No one has ever mentioned it. So it's pretty much useless to boycott it.

They got Freddy. Poor Freddy.

I had a gay friend awhile ago, but he moved away last year. I remember when he participated in the Day of Silence, I had no idea what he was doing until he wrote it down to tell me.

The day of silence is funny or the boycott is?

The Day of Silence is absolutely hilarious; the fact that people care enough to boycott it is funny.

edit: You know what, I like this idea! It's boyish attitude, and teeny immaturity appeal to me! Since I feel persecuted in my class for being shy and unfriendly introspective, ugly unique, and a complete know-it-all brilliant, and like, ALL those other people CLEARLY have no idea about how I feel because their pitiful lives are just so darn easy, I'm not going to talk to them next Monday! Yeah, that'll show the **self filter**Illegitimate children!**self-filter*s!

And boy those parents! If they want to protect their kids from the evils of nerdome, they better hide their kids come Monday, or my public display of sticking it to the establishment is really gonna mar their minds!

Oh.

I thought it was pretty funny, too. I'm glad we finally agree on something for once.

I still can't use this.

I don't know if this says a lot about me or the actual event, because it took me going to a few sites to actually get it. =/

So, it represents the "silence" supposedly had by oppressed persons? Nice on paper, but again my confusion has rendered it ultimately pointless to me. I just don't understand in what ways, if any at all, it is furthering the cause of sexual minorities, especially when it's not really observed or advertised on such a wide scale as to warrant doing much than giving select schools more control over their students body's big mouth.

That said, I'm not surprised about the boycott. For every pro-LGBT advocate out there, we have about a couple thousand O'Reilly's. Such is the state of conservative America. XP

Conservative =/= Christianizer <_<

Don't let the Democrats fool you! There are sane, secular Right of Centers out there! We're called Conservative Libertarians and Secular Reaganites!

Agreed on O'Reilly though. As much as I might agree with him on certain issues, the man has no discretion... or tact... or consideration for an audience that likes to understand what the people on the noisy TV are saying X_X

You're buying into what the media feeds you. It's not like old people are against it and young people aren't...

Anyway, I think this is dumb even though I don't think homosexuality is acceptable. And I know what you're gonna say, the all too convenient, "homophobe" or "you hate gay people". No, it all depends. If they are rude, then I won't like the person, but if they are nice I'll like the person, but not like their lifestyle. It can be done. It's not like you don't like lying so you hate everyone...
