These commandments are a joke, right? Because my fan character can out-run Sonic (he moves at the speed of light), overpower Knuckles, and is on the same mental level as Tails. His spike style is too similar to Shadow's to be original, AND he's an alternate-universe version of Silver. Does that make him stupid or unoriginal? I gave him a long and interesting backstory, including a team with five other, slightly more original characters, so does that reduce any kind of wrongful sin I have committed?
Uh, not really.

First of all, I'd reduce the ability of your character by like, a LOT. As the commandments state, thou shalt not be able to outrun Sonic, out-punch Knuckles, or out-think Tails. Your character does ALL THREE, and that seriously takes marks off of the originality scale. There are way too many fan characters who have pulled this cliche and we would like none of it around here, methinks.

While I am no ace at creating Sonic characters at all, I can tell you right now, no, the story, unless it's some sort of epic the volume of War & Peace, cannot atone for breaking several commandments.

Unless it's an AU. Then I have no idea what to say.

WAIT A MINUTE...

Read Yves's rules at the top of the page.

That's much better.

FFFFF-First of all

I wouldn't even consider these so called Commandments to have any merit to them. There's no objectivity. No impartiality. It all sounds like a one-sided Funnel of Fail. So, I reckon that these should be taken apart and replaced by a more objective set of suggestive guidelines.

I summon TUC.
I summon Blaire.
I summon Chaos.
I summon Miracle.
I summon RP Knights

You four (and a group) are going to help me put some order back into this place, nyoro.

Actually... I'm kind of leaning more towards what Yves and Kiara think here. A couple of these 'commandments' are a tad restrictive for my liking. If you can do some of these right, there should be no problem.

I'm guilty of a few of these. Chaos and Ruin (along with some other characters that have not seen the light of day since) started off as recolours. It's as good a start as any. As you can see, they're a little more original nowdays.

In a manner of speaking, Chaos can out-manipulate Shadow in terms of Chaos Energy (or whatever you'd want to call the energy the Chaos Emeralds produce). It's been his thing since his creation and I just haven't found anything better to replace it with.

Chaos and Ruin are also in a manner of speaking, Artificial Hedgehogs. I've slowly been tweaking their backstory with each comic I've made, but I'm yet to put most of it to paper. I should probably do that some day. Artificial Hedgehogs aren't mentioned in these rules, but since Shadow showed up they became super popular.

Also, why shouldn't someone create a character just for the sake of it being a character's love interest? Unless of course you mean for official characters, that makes sense. But for your own FCs I don't see why not.

Guidelines, maybe. Commandments, not so much.

I only agree with the "Thou shalt not out-[skill] [character]" ones when it comes to profiles that simply state something along the lines of "He's faster than Sonic". Not very much effort put into that one.

EDIT: Hang on, you summoned me, Cy? Since when was I a pro at making characters? I haven't even put any profiles up here. xD;

Shh...

I can smell the butter already...

Anyways, the commandments are indeed a bit outdated. Like I stated before, it'd be much much better to follow Yves's and Kiara's guidelines.

Yeah, some of these "rules" are outdated, I will admit.

And as far as "Thou shalt not recolour," really, recolours are like little children:

They're annoying, but they'll grow up eventually.

Hopefully.

And yes, Ki and Yves' rules are much better. xP

He can't be considered over-powered, because the universe he lives in is full of characters with his level of power. Can he? He doesn't make any trips to the main universe, as well. Is that alright?
