Renowned science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, known for co-writing the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and its literary successors, 2010: Odyssey Two, 2061: Odyssey Three and 3001: The Final Odyssey, has died this morning due to post-polio complications in Sri Lanka.

Clarke was the father of modern communications, originating the idea of communications satellites in 1945 as a Royal Air Force officer during World War II. He is also known for several other books than his Odyssey series, such as the Rama series, and Cradle. He was 90 years of age.

As an update, he was recently buried in Columbo, Sri Lanka with the 2001 theme playing.
