Casual Gamer Revolution; The Downfall of the Industry?

It's called the casual gamer revolution and it really SUCKS!

Developers are starting to see that simplistic, small-scale "novelty" games reach out to a larger market than real games do (and cost less to produce than real games do); therefore you're starting to see more "SUPER BUBBLE PARTY DANCE" garbage instead of real games and hardcore gamer games. This is happening in full force on DS/Wii and now the PS2. It is also manifesting its way onto other consoles.

... why are they doing this? Developers want money. Larger Market = More Money.

You should get into Media Create Sales charts sometime... You might just barf if you actually saw what kind of "games" are topping the sales chart... It's a sad sight to see that gaming has gravitated away from the truly awesome games like Devil May Cry, and more so towards the "SUPER BUBBLE PARTY DANCE" garbage.

... and why are they selling? Because people who would have never touched a game before is like "oh so cute!!" or "that looks fun", but they never touch the games that give you real entertainment. It's almost like going back to the Atari days when everything was simplistic like Pong.

Discuss.

What if some of us actually like the games? I do like mini game collections too. Besides, there are still real games out there for hardcore people. *points to Brawl* Plus, the casual gaming industry hasn't really reached the 360 and PS3 yet so you can just go buy one of those systems for real games.

They can be fun, but that doesn't make them good games. They are entertainment with no substance and either way only a few are actually entertaining. The way things are going, they are bad for the industry. It's that we're being flooded with massive amounts of crap from devs just cashing in on the fact that non gamers try it out. Seriously... Baby Pals? What the hell???

I mean really... No mini game should even be on a shelf with regular games, they make the over all line-up look bad. At least with PS3 and 360, they are downloadable and much cheaper. Unlike PS2, PSP, DS, and Wii. No mini game should be the price of a normal game. All mini games should be no more than $10, yet they price them like they are regular games...

Well, maybe some mini game collections have tons of motion in them so maybe they should cost like $30 for the most part. I say just ignore them. You still have good games like Brawl coming out.

Motion doesn't require a lot of work, the games are very short w/little developement time, and this isn't specifically the Wii we're talking about.

I'm not talking about my opinion on them either. I'm talking about how they're bad for the industry. Devs now think it's fine to make junk, because people buy them. Whether it be non gamers who only like them because they are simple or just dumb people who will buy anything with a cool box art.

This is only going to get worse... The more and more devs find that sloppy games sell(not all of them are bad of course), the more of these will come out. The industry crashed in the 80s because devs figured they could put anything out and people would buy them, but after being bombarded with crap people quit buying games.

Do you think that this could get that bad?

I sure hope it doesn't get as bad as back in the 80's, but yes I hate those kinds of games. They are fun, but the big thing is price. If your not going to make a full game or have it full of mini games, then price it much lower than a normal game, because I'm not going to pay full price for a game that is not a full scale game.
I'm a gamer and always will be a gamer. If you don't believe me. I have 430 Video Games and 19 Consoles.

I doubt you could beat that unless you are a gamer as well! =P

So, let's see if you can outdo "The Jet Gamer"

ARGH. *smashes headset* See why I prefer the older games (that I never got to play until now?) Because that's when there were some good ones. Right now with the direction things are taking (and my inability to grab some 'better' hardware), I could really care less. But if they make Call of Duty into a Mario-Party style game, I will explode.

And there shall be Fallout.

I swear people get stupider, more simple minded every year.

Why can't companies just make things as good as Goldeneye or Halo? Is it that hard to make games with quality? What the hell is so hard about putting drivable vehicles in a game? What is wrong with multiple pathways? Secrets? Etc?

Are they that lazy?

Christmas is back again

^^I can tell that's the truth. Some do care more about getting their payment then creating good and creative games that keeps the player entertained more then 1 hour. And then leaves it on the desk not moving it until maybe a friend shows up and say. O o! Can we play this.

And you just came up with. I havent touched that game since i bought it.

I mean is it tempting to get a game that looks like a baby doll like the mexican game called pinata that have the same prise as maybe Call of Duty.

I would not think so, if they aint in the habit to waiste their money on something dull the company had used only half of the payement requirements to get it up and going then maybe a good reasonable game.

Working on banner, but if your looking to have some time off. Come, visit my channel on youtube.

There are only a few companies that get their games right 99% of the time. Nintendo, Insomniac, and Naughty Dog come to mind..

it urks me as well seeing all these games on the shelves geared toward casual gamers, like games based on movies(Ratatouille,Spiderman 3,etc.).I hate to admit it,but their appeal to casual gamers is getting them more money than before by raking in new gamers.I believe the most hardcore system is the 360(though I don't own it,no favoritism).the system that reaches out to more gamers is wii.ps3 I'm not to sure about though.

Yes, you could put those games based on movies in the "crap" pile as well. XD The only successful game based on a movie was the Chronicals of Riddick. Mainly, because the game came out way after the movie and they had time to work on it.

There are only a few companies that get their games right 99% of the time. Nintendo, Insomniac, and Naughty Dog come to mind..

Have you noticed Nintendo titles like that Wario game for the wii that was just a bunch of mini-games? Or maybe Cooking Mama: Cook-Off? They're in on it.

I don't see naughty dog around that much any more... maybe their games lost my interest or something after Jak and Daxter left the scene... but Insomniac is as healthy as ever! Resistance 2 is coming!! EIGHT-PLAYER CO-OP, YEA!!!!!!!

And do you have something against bubbles? There was some cool bubble games out there (mostly for N64). The small casual games are still mostly cheap downloadables like Everyday Shooter (that was a good game :o) and Hexic HD.

If you want to know something pointed at casual gamers, then LOOK NO FURTHER. widely known as the big red arrow pointing to casual games... a huge wierd word:

Wii
