Luckily I am passing with straight "A"s but I have a tip for junior high people, because I remember using these tips a couple years ago and it really helped.

a) Get your homework done ASAP, no procrastinating!
-- This will take the stress of doing the homework, andwill give you a better grade, usually. This is especially true for projects. Homework is a LARGE chunk of your grade during these years, so get it done!
b) Actually STUDY!
-- Maybe in elementary school you didn't ever have to study, but now you do! It will help!
c) Take notes!
-- This was actually required by all of my teachers during my years. However, at other schools, it may not be. Trust me, these notes will be a HUGE help, especially on your FINALS!

These stuck with me into my Freshman year this year, and trust me, "C" really really helped!

My grades are:

Math- 88(B)
Language Arts- 80(C yikes!)
Science- 94(A)
Gym- 97(A)
Social Studies- 82(C Jeeze!)

See? I need all A's and B's to go to the next grade.
80% is a "B" for you guys? For us this is the quota:

0-59.4% - F
59.5-69.4 - D
69.5-79.4 - C
79.5-89.4 - B
89.5+ - A

(89.5-92 A-, 92-96 A, 96+ A+)

I think my grades are:

Science: 93% (A)
Tech: 96% (A+)
Reading: Passing (we don't have grades in this class)
P.E.: 91% (A-)
Language Arts: 99% (A+)
History: 94% (A)
Spanish: 90% (A-. kinda close to a "B")
Math: 90% (A-, again close to a "B")

The strange thing is, math is my strong point usually.

I'm actually not failing any classes.
In Math, I'm making around a 90, maybe since it's a new marking period.
In Social Studies, I really don't know. Maybe a 80-90.
In Science, I'm making a 80 or so maybe, maybe a 100 even.
In French, I'm passing that's all I know.
In English all I know is that I am passing.

And for my specials I know I'm passing Gym with like, a 70 or maybe 80 or so. I don't change but it's the beginning of a new marking period and all grades automatically go to a 100, or so I heard. And I know I'm definitely passing Technology.

I'm only passing because I try to do my Classwork and my homework. I do miss just like 1 or 2 assignments but my teachers said it won't hurt my grade if you're passing. I don't understand what we do in most of our classes but I do the classwork and the homework so it's all good.

I'm not failing any classes this year, due to me working my butt off to improve my GPA to graduate "Summa Cum Laude". Unfortunately, due to my medical leave, I am unable to work or go to school so as of now, there is not much I remember. I am going to have to kick my studying up to overdrive if I am going to relearn all I was taught, and catch up to the rest of my classmates. I have to learn two months of seven classes worth of material. It's going to be a killer year once I get back, but I am prepared to work as hard as possible to get back on track.

The most important meal of the day
Anyone who knows me should know that I started out the year terribly. I'm a chronic skipper, never at school. But I do have 42 credits as of right now, and you only need 40 to graduate. And that's not including my 3 current classes, to come June I'll have 45 credits, probably one of the most out of any of the seniors. So although people can cringe at my abysmal attendance record, they can applaud me on my ability to complete classes and rack up so many credits.

Now, how did I bounce back from this? Well I got a release summary from the hospital I was in the summer, procured a 504 and got myself on half days. Now I only have to be in school from 7:45 to 11:05 every day, which is a huge help and a huge load off my shoulders. Now I'm at school pretty much 98% of the time, which is better than my old like 47% of the time. And my grades are great.

Now, for those of you with less severe situations than mine, who probably don't need a 504, here's what I've done to make my grades better.

Sit at the front of the class. I sit at the front in all 3 of my classes: English, Algebra II, and Government. It especially helps in Algebra II, because math is my weak point. Also, I lost my glasses and I'm legally blind so it helps me see the board a little better. But not really in Algebra, I can't see the overhead when we're taking notes. However, being at the front of the class makes it easy for the teacher to pass me the transparencies when he's done writing them. So I'm just a page behind everyone else in notes, but at least I get to take them at my own pace without squinting and straining to see.

But seriously, it may seem like really old, out of date advice, but trust me. You really want to try and switch your seat to the front. College, middle school, high school... Whatever you're enrolled in right now. Studies have proven that A students usually sit in the front. Also, I sit at the table that my teacher does to grade papers. So he is literally right there so I can ask him all the questions I need to. I literally ask him at least a dozen questions per assignment. And he helps me a lot, until I understand what I'm doing.

And teachers don't mind that! At least, most don't. They shouldn't. Asing questions is vital. It shows teachers that you're studious, eager, and want to do things the right way. Teachers usually give leniency to students who have proven that they actually care. So when you do mess up, your teacher will probably take it easy on you. At least, this has proven true in my many cases of messing up.

But ask as many questions as you need to. In private or during the lesson, if you don't understand something, just speak up. The teacher will explain it in the most simplest terms until it literally makes complete sense to you. And if tney weren't clear the first time, let them know! Who cares if the rest of the class is all sighing and like "ugh". I know I don't! There have been many times where the class is all smacking their lips and groaning because I have questions. And you know what I do? Turn around in my seat and tell them to shut up because none of them can fight me. True story.

But anyways, those are the two crucial bits of advice I have for you people. So follow them and do well! I'm sure I have more somewhere up here...

This has to be the best piece of advice I can ever offer somebody. Excellently said KC. The main thing that helped me throughout my AP International Relations class, and Comparative Politics class is simply asking questions. If it was something I didn't know, you better believe that I will be the first one to ask. And yes, there will be plenty of times where most of the students were like "ugh not again". But you can bet money that the questions I asked, were questions they needed an answer to as well.

I was even commended once, by my teacher for my bravery to ask as many questions without the fear of ridicule. It got me so far as to have one of the highest scores in the exam. So while the students were groaning, I was busy passing. If it is something you don't get, like KC said, don't be afraid to speak up. Asking questions just might be the thing that get you that "A".

You won't get much closer, 'till you sacrifice it all.
My current grades at the moment are 1 A*, 7 As and 1 B. The B is in Art because I'm always way behind on coursework and I'm never motivated enough to follow the criteria set by my school. It's a shame, because up until the beginning of Year 10 (9th grade, I think?) I'd always wanted to be an artist. Now, almost being 16, I want to go into programming or computer science. But anyway, I digress. xP

The best tip I can give is to really work hard on focusing on your weaker areas rather than the things you're good at. Before, I'd always prefer working on the stuff I already knew and calling it studying, but the fact was I actually wasn't learning anything new. Making yourself an all-rounder at a subject will gain you better grades than being good only in specific areas. :3

I always have a hard time paying attention in school. It's just so boring I end taking out my sketch book and drawing Sonic XD . Math has always been a tough subject for me but my grades weren't that bad last year:

English 11: B
Health: A
Sign Language: B
Advanced Sculpture: C
Geometery: C
English 10: B
Us History: D

I had to redo 10 grade english and geometery because I failed both. I'm glad I'm onto my senior year. I'll be done when it's over :D

. . .

Have you tried speaking to your teacher for some extra help or study material (fresh examples, perhaps?) of certain topics/criteria that you are finding particularly difficult?

I was simply awful at maths, I mean a walking disaster, I managed to squeak through with a "B" at the end of the day but if it wasn't for the fact I sucked it up told the teacher how much I was struggling and that I needed extra material, obviously I am not saying announce this in front of the whole class because that might be embarrassing and cause more issues but teachers are always happy to answer and give advice and extra help if they can.

If you are doing well with your other classes, a little extra studying for your maths work is not going to be a massive deal, right?
