How to Make a Unique Sonic OC: Index: 1) Fur Color 2) Markings 3) Piercings/Body Modifications 4) Props 5) Weapons 6) Vehicles 7) Species 8) Apparel 9) Other Bottom: Personality Appearance: 1) Fur Color Things to consider here are, what are your favorite colors? What do you want your character to convey in terms of, well, everything? First impressions are everything, and color is one of the biggest things people will notice about your character. Here is a list of color meanings. Extremely useful especially if you want your character's color to have meaning to it. Another thing is, what isn't taken? What's something you've never seen? Have you ever seen a pink hyena? Have you ever seen a red and brown ant eater? Mix and match species with fur color, you'll be surprised what looks interesting with what colors. Other things to consider with choosing a color is, what kind of personality do you want your character to have? What is their alignment? Are they good or evil? Do they like to bathe in the mud all day or are they immaculately clean? Do they love the color sky blue because it's peaceful or do they love the color yellow because it's so bright and cheerful? Or maybe with some irony, like bad guys in white and good guys in black. What are their hobbies? Where do they live? What is their life style like? This could all affect their color. 2) Markings Your character doesn't need a marking, but it can be visually helpful. Maybe you want your character's symbol to be a star, so you put star tattoos down their arms or a big star on his belly. Or maybe you want it to be a heart, putting a heart on his head instead of stripes like Shadow. Also, the colors of these can be determined in #1, or just given a generic color like Sonic's skin. Also, is there a story behind this marking? Maybe they were caught up in some explosion and now has a blackened ear from 3rd degree burns. Maybe he had his fur shaved in the shape of a design because he's so dedicated to a cause or to a loved one/girlfriend/boyfriend. I'm sure you guys can come up with some pretty creative things. 3) Piercings and other Body Modifications Well, there ought to be a story behind this as well. Perhaps your character is a rogue with a pierced ear and a barcode hanging off the piercing because he was caught up in some genetic experiment. Maybe he just likes to give himself piercings, who can say? Maybe they even just wanted to get a piercing or someone forced them to (like a girlfriend/boyfriend, maybe it's part of their religion, maybe it was a dare, maybe it was a coming of age thing, maybe it was just for the heck of it). Also, there's loads more options: Raised skin Shaving Lip piercings Corset piercings Scars (please, be careful with this one) Tattoos Stitches Missing Limbs Extra Limbs Here's a few visual examples: Checkered Man Lined Face Woman 4) Props This should speak for itself. I'm not sure what kind of props your character may keep on his person at all times. Maybe he holds an amulet that a loved one gave to him. Maybe it's an heirloom, like a family crest he wears around his neck or a handkerchief his sister gave to him before she died. What you don't want to do is make this prop too big and bulky, like a giant iron cross. Leave the giant iron cross at home and carry around a small replica of it, especially if your character excels in speed. You don't want something so silly to be holding him back. 5) Weapons This is also another issue. Not everyone uses a gun for their weapon. Although my own two fan-characters use guns, I do specify what types of guns they are, which would be good instead of just saying "My character has a gun". What type of gun is it? Who gave it to him? Is it a standard issue police gun? Is it a military gun? Is he on the SWAT team? Does he make a hobby from guns? Is he good with guns? Can he aim correctly? Think about all those, and find a gun that best suits him. You can also use melee weapons, such as swords, scythes, axes, pickaxes, guillotines, ninja stars, nun-chucks, a wooden bat, a club, a flail, a brick, or some funky combination like a cross with blades on it or an axe big enough to serve as a shield. However, these only really work well within the medieval theme, and you should be able to tell anyone about why you chose this weapon, where he got it, how he got it, why he got it. Is he part of the king's royal army? Is he a foot soldier? Does he have special privileges? Is he the king's adviser? Is he the only modern person to use a crude weapon? Why would he use a crude weapon? Why did he choose this weapon over the others? How much did it cost? Why would he spend so much on it? Why didn't he just make his own weapon? Can he make his own weapon? The questions are endless. Use them to your advantage.6) Vehicles Vehicles should be specific, not just "my character has a car" or "my character has a monster truck". Well, my character has a '96 Subaru Legacy with pink fuzzy seat covers and matching dice on the rearview mirror with a set of kickarse speakers in the trunk. Or maybe your character gets chauffeured around. What is the chauffeur's name? Why doesn't he drive himself? Is he too rich? Is he too poor to afford a car? Is it a crappy car? Is it a sleek new car? Did someone give it to him? Why did they give it to him? Why doesn't he have a car if he can afford it? Is it because he lives in NYC and can just flag a taxi? Does he not need one because he's a recluse and stays at home all day? Does he have some sort of sweet hybrid car? Does he use it a lot? Here is some cars to pick from with basic information, prices, etc. Mix and match them or take the engine of a monster truck and stick it in an SUV. Be creative. 7) Species Here's a good question. Why is your character the species he is? If I made Pendergast into a Sonic character, I would make him a cat. Why? Because he moves like a cat and that's how they describe him in the books. Why isn't he a bear? Because he's not big and bulky, he's lithe and thin yet powerful. If you really just want to go over the top, here is a good place to start. If you need additional information (like what they eat, where they're found, etc), please use Wikipedia. 8) Apparel All Sonic characters (except the new ones, it seems) wear gloves, so you can work with that. Maybe you can give them a theme, like aviator gloves and goggles or boxing gloves and shorts, something that goes with their person. Scarves, chokers and necklaces are good, as well as other jewelry or accessories (berets for girls, a shark tooth on a piece of string for guys, whatever you want). Also, think about where they shop. American Eagle? Gap? Old Navy? Victoria's Secret? Your call, but think about who they are and where they would shop. Maybe they would shop in Lifestyles for some underground Indie t-shirts and ripped jeans. Or maybe they're a bit on the wild side and shop at Rave for bright clothes (though if your character is male, I would advise against Rave...). You can also let their power (flight, strength, speed, healing, elemental, etc) play a part in what they wear. Maybe a weight lifting belt for strength, a pair of snazzy shoes for speed, a shirt with wings on the back for flight. 9) Other Well, if there's anything I've failed to discuss here, let me know. Also, please keep it simple yet elegant. You don't want your character to have thousands of things all over him. Personality: Again, this is basically just everything above shoved into the way your character acts and why. Why is he so angry all the time? Is it because of his past? Was he abused? Did his parents abandon him? Why is he so happy all the time? Did he have a good child hood? Is his place in life good right now? Why is he so mellifluous? Was that the way he was raised? Is that a learned skill from his training? Speaking of training, where was he trained? What's the story on that? Who is his family? Are they the reason why he is so mysterious? Are they rich/poor? Do they hold him back/push him forward? Is he happy where he is right now? Does he want to better himself? Again, these questions could go on and on. Be creative, guys and have fun. If you want to make your fancharacter something you could never be, then go for it! If you want him to be who you are, go for it again. If you want him to be some sort of spectral being, don't make him a God. Give him a weakness, give him a strength, give him something in between.

SOTI doesn't like anything. He's a bigger pessimist(sp lol?) than I. He can stick it in his ear if he doesn't like someone trying to help you youngins. |

I don't find fancharacters interesting but this might assist some users, improving their crap, all I see is horrible colours & same sprites all the time. |
