Why I dislike Amy is because of her annoyance and whininess and immature acts to follow Sonic. To me, it has nothing to do with her fighting. Her attitude is what is annoying, and she's the perfect example of a plain character. it confuses me when people chastize(spelling?) a character for being one of the more realistic characters in the series, personality wise.

However, I think even with the real examples of Amy's character, we would find annoyance. There are many girls who are much more complex, and yet equally real. Why not base Sonic's love interest on a girl such as them, as was the case with Sally? It is not only important for a positive agonist to be realistic, but also likable, particularly if she is to be the love-interest.

I'm talking of her age and mentality, god, people act like she's 16 or something when she's really jsut a little kid, and it is usually common of girls that age to go gaga for a guy they've fallen in love with, the only difference between Amy's situation and the stereotypical girl of her age or mentality, is that she is given the chance to get close to that guy and is friends with him where in real life, it's usually just a time of fangirlism and "agonist" something tells me you mean antagonist, right? and I mean in general, not just Amy, but a lot of characters. plus I admit that you're right about the "likable part" but what is not likeable for some people, is also possibly likeable for someone else, so it really does go both ways i suppose.

With myself as an example, there are plenty of young ladies for whom romance is not the beginning and end of their existential meaning, for which they would gladly flip off her best friend, bash an army of evil robots, and without which they would wither to nothing -.-. I doubt anyone would want to be like any video game character when it comes right down too it, taking in everything that happens to them.

I can honestly say my life wouldn't be any less f**ked up if I had a different personality, because then I wouldn't be me. and I also notice a rather pointless thing you're doing, you're referencing things that are on almost a completely different level than Sonic.

Anyway, as Sally and her popularity are any testament, an at least half-way likable female character is hardly beyond Sonic's grasp. It's really a simple task.
