i know that sonic adventure 2 introduced grinding on rails, im pretty sure it did, anyways, i know in that game sonic had soap shoes so it would have been easy to do that without any damage to the shoe, but how does he grind rails now with rubber soles? wouldnt the rail grind into the shoe over time, but the question im really wondering about is why does it sound like its metal grinding on metal in sonic heroes when sonic's shoes clearly have rubber soles?

I don't know...would you be better off if hear eveytime sonic grinds a big ol' noise going "SQQQQEEEEEEAAAAKKKK!" with rubber sliding against dry metal? I sure wouldn't.

good point, but if we got really technical, sonic couldnt really grind on the rails at all with his shoes, he would just be standing there and probably lose his balance and fall off, unless the rails were greased

or maybe sonics shoes have a metal thing on the bottom of them. I'm not really sure. maybe the shoes have some powers of the chaos emeralds of left trace. I mean, sonic has transformed a number of times...maybe his shoes absorbed some energy or something. XD

i dont know about that, and if you look at screen shots from the games you can see the the whole bottom of his shoe is rubber

hmm...maybe he greases his shoes, or he moves so fast and the whole friction law sorta falls apart. Hmm...I'm willing to go with my crazy shoe power absorbing thing, or they are either made from a very special rubber. XP who knows...

well they are made from a very special rubber because otherwise they would probably burst into flames while he is running, i know the shoes can withstand an enormous amount of friction but that still doesnt really explain how they slide so easily, maybe it is the speed

When you're going that fast you could probably grind on anything for awhile. Maybe the rubber is really advanced and can't wear down that fast?

i guess it has to be really advanced, because even going really fast wouldnt allow him to grind for as long as he does in sonic heroes

Well it has to be to run that fast. It would wear out in seconds if it were just regular payless shoes. :D

Here's my theory ... Anything in the Sonic Universe is possible. I mean, you've got a three feet tall blue hedgehog that runs faster than the speed of sound, can turn Super due to the power of seven jewels, and a fat dude obsessed with eggs and has the I.Q of 300. Do the math there on how he grinds on metal rails with his rubber shoes.

haha, good point, but why does everyone say that eggman is obsessed with eggs? i thought they just used that to make fun of how he has and egg shaped body and then eventually changed it
