I've lost all faith in NAV now after finding out that it's hidden the presence of six worms and viruses on my Internet desktop. avast! Anti-Virus had found these during a thorough scan and slapped em all to oblivion. I've been kinda ticked with Norton AntiVirus lately anyhow. It's sad. Every year you have to renew a subscription service to keep receiving updates to protect against new viruses (then again, I do use Windows 98 =P) and the only way you can get around that is to either upgrade for another complementary year's worth or get a secondhand copy of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (7.5 no longer supported) Plus I've noticed that the newer Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security products (from 2003 on) have gotten a bit buggy and bloated. There was a time when NAV was only taking 10-20 MB of hard drive space and only need 32 MB of RAM. Now it wants around 100-300 MB of drive space and at least 256 MB of RAM. Ridiculous. All you end up getting is a piece of junk that doesn't even repair anything (IF it finds a virus that doesn't walk past it). Meanwhile, avast! Home Edition is free, still supports Windows 98 (and 95 I think). All you have to do is register your copy for licensing. No harassing CD keys, no activation. And avast actually finds and removes things. And it has something quite useful called VRDB. VRDB compiles a database of files when your computer is idle (or in a screen saver), and puts them in safe keeping. If a file is infected, and avast has to blow it away, you can restore a clean copy. It even comes with a screensaver that SCANS while it runs. If I ever get the Yellow Box, it'll only be for Norton Utilities. 2002. |

If you don't like NAV use AVG and AVG Antispyware, haven't had a problem with it and they're free. I don't use McAphee (think thats it) because it also hides viruses. I got BloodHound virus from Norton :o ! For those wanting to know what bloodhound is, it is similar to a Trojan. |

I got a virus from an SB bot and Antivirus practically protected it. Had to do system recovery to rid of it. |

Norton sucks! It couldn't get rid of my virus. I've used tons though. Kaspersky, PC Cillin, Panda Titanium, etc... Right now I'm using Trend Mircro PC Internet Seturity 2007 AKA PC Cillin. |

I have yet to find a good anti-virus program... My father has way too many on his computer and all they do is pop up and say "You have 50 billion viruses!" Use a firewall, stay clear of dangerous sites and don't be stupid while downloading, and you shouldn't really have any major virus problems. Or, at least, that's how I've been using my computer the past few years... |

That's true, but I think Trend Micro has a pretty good anti virus. |
